*Do you think respect is important? What do you think respect is? How id it shown? In your view why or why not do you respect people?
*What are your feeling towards respecting others? Do you think everyone deserves respect or respect has to be earned? Explain your answer.
Respect and being respectful is definitely important. To me respect is important because you won't get anywhere in life without it. To me respect is treating other the way you want to be treated. If you want others to respect you then you need to respect them. I also think respect is also shown through your actions. By this I mean that others can interpret s persons manners and level of respect they have by how they communicate with others, choice of vocabulary, and how others react to them as a person. Some one who is disrespectful and doesn't listen or follow instructions probably wouldn't be respected as they would want to be. Respect could be interpreted by choice of vocabulary because some people use inappropriate language in the wrong time and place. Last how others react to them as a person because it shows the difference between a respectful person, and disrespectful person. There are over a thousand ways respect could be shown. Respect could be shown between other people, a community, or even someone having respect for themselves as a person. Respect towards others can be shown by being kind, helping someone in need, or even doing what you are asked of someone. Respect for or in a community could be shown by cleaning up trash around town, or recycling and separating garbage. Last respect can be shown by respecting yourself. Some ways you can respect yourself is dressing appropriately, loving yourself for who you are, and not letting others take advantage of you. My feelings towards respecting others can go both ways. I respect people because as a child I was taught to treat others the way I want to be treated. However, not everyone will respect you back. My mom always told me to kill people with kindness, never steep to there level. In my opinion respect can go both ways, but it definitely has to be earned. I feel respect has to be earned because not everyone in life will like each other; and sometimes you need to find others that will respect you back. Respect is one of the first steps to getting anywhere in life, and you wont get anywhere without it.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Chris. I understand where your coming from. I like that you said that when your disrespectful you don't get any respect back. I also agree with you because you include many examples about you getting respect by giving respect. Therefore, I completely agree with you and what you are saying. Respect should be earned not just given.
DeleteRespect has great importance in everyday life. As children we are taught to respect our parents, teachers, and elders. Respect is really about what we admire in the world and in people. People tend to admire things that they want. What we want tells a lot about who we are. What we respect is a clue to what we want in life. Respect is the act of showing someone that you value his or her feelings and thoughts. Respect is a universal value that each person desires not only to embody, but also to receive. Respect is not just what you say but also the way you act. Showing people that you take their feelings and thoughts into consideration are how to earn respect. If you demonstrate respect toward others, then others will respect you and listen to your opinions. Respect begins with self-respect and then extends to the respect of others. Self-respect occurs only when you listen to yourself and place your opinions and feelings are before others. Self-respect is an important value because its absence reduces self-confidence. If you do not value your emotions or outlook, then who will? Respecting other is important in life especially regarding friendship and school. Also, respect can be shown through behavior and it can also be felt. We can act in ways which are considered respectful, yet we can also feel respect for someone and feel respected by someone. Because it is possible to act in ways that do not reflect how we really feel, the feeling of respect is more important than the behavior without the feeling. When the feeling is there, the behavior will naturally follow. When we are respected we gain the voluntary cooperation of people. When people respect one another there are fewer conflicts. To me it kind of feels like a boomerang. If you "throw" respect at someone the will "throw" it right back. This is what I think respects means to me. I absolutely think it is important to show your respect to yourself and others.
ReplyDeleteRespect is important because without it you will be treated like dirt. Respect is something that is earn, not given. The good people will get respect. Leaders will get respect. These people earned respect because they are good people. They did something that made people look up to them. I think respect is a type of manner that is polite and saying please and thank you. Respect could mean lots of things but this is what this means to me. I respect some people others i don't respect. I respect people who i think is respectful and or leaders. I don't respect people who are very annoying and very disrespectful, or even teachers. I don't feel that most teachers need respect if the are not going to give it to us. Some people are just plain old rude or just impudent. Those people don't need respect if they don't have respect for themselves or each other. My feelings toward respecting others who deserve it is important because if you respect them they can respect you back.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you Eli epically when you talk about how respect is earned not given. however I muss disagree with you when you say leader have respect because even if some one is a leader doesn't mean they can have respect. anyway great quote and nice job
DeleteI think respect is one of the most important qualities for someone to have. I say this only because I was raised and taught to always to treat people with respect. A good quote that I think that would go perfect with respect is “treat other people the way you want to be treated.” That is also one of the main reasons I respect other people. I think respect is the fair treatment of other people kind of like conman decency or chivalry. I also think respect is showing appreciation to another person. It is very importuned to show respect and also very easy to show it. You can show respect by holding a door for someone all the way to honoring someone’s death. One way I shoe respect is that I do whatever my mom ask of me and always do a little extra. For example if my asked me to get the bags in the car I would go do that and clean the car if I was feeling up to it or if she wants me to clean my room I would clean the house for her. I mainly do this and respect other people because I feel that if I’m good to someone or do something kind something good will happened to me. That is my view on respect.
ReplyDeleteI think it is also essential for some to respect someone on an everyday basis. However, I believe that you have to earn respect from other. I can compare respect to a currency in the sense that you need to work to be paid. And just as you need to earn respect you can also just as much lose it. That is my stance on respect.
i agree with you mike. Respect s a important quality to have because you can get so much from it. You can be remembered as being a really respectful person. When you said that you will do a little extra when some one asks you Clean your room or even clean the car is showing that person that you have respect. The quote that you said "treat others the way you wanted to be treated" is a great quote because if you treat someone like dirt the don't expect someone to give you respect back. Treat others the way you want to be treated. Overall this was a great comment.
DeleteI think that respect is certainly important- if a person has earned it. If someone is not a good person, they do not deserve respect.
ReplyDeleteFor a person to earn respect, they need to in turn respect others (who, of course, deserve it) and be a good human being. That is how someone should earn respect.
I also think that authority figures should not be respected simply for being authority figures. For instance, a leader should not be respected just because they can lead. Hitler was an authority figure, and he definitely did not earn the respect of others. Additionally, in Medieval times, Kings used to often treat peasants badly because they were in charge and peasants weren't valuable to them since there were so many, and the peasants just dealt with it because they were taught they had to submit to the king's will.
A fallacious point people often make is that if an authority figure does not approve of something, it is immoral, and this is not true. Just because someone in charge said it does not mean they should automatically be respected or believed. If someone in power says something is wrong, that does not mean they are right. What makes something moral or immoral is whether or not it hurts other people (which is why murder is wrong, as we all know) and if people have good reasons to be hurt. For instance, the majority of people used to be racist and would be upset if they were told to consider someone slightly different equal. Like in The Help, where a lot of characters thought that it was okay to be racist, and Hilly justified being racist with the fact that it was illegal for African Americans and Caucasians to use the same bathrooms and such, as if that justified it. And obviously, racist people do not earn people's respect, since they hate others just for being different.
I personally disagree with you. I think that everyone should be shown respect not matter what kind of person you are. Even if someone is racist. They might have done something amazing for our world but you won’t show them respect because their racist. That is why I disagree with you but other than that good job.
DeleteYeah, they might do something good for the world, but then I'd respect what they did, but not them. They wouldn't deserve my respect because they disrespect people just for having a different skin color, and that's disgusting.
DeleteI agree because someone who isn't very nice and your trying hard to give them respect is difficult. If a person who has been bulling you would you try and give them the respect you give to people who help you instead of hurt you. The people who are there for you need that respect and I know you think it might be wrong not to give respect but they aren't giving you the respect if they are being mean to you or bulling you. If you were being bullied would you give your bully respect after they beat you up, made fun of you, or would you give them the same "respect" they gave you

ReplyDeleteI think having respect to others is very important. You need to treat people the way you want to be treated. You can just expect someone to just respect you if you don't show any respect back. As i have gotten older it has seemed to me that not everyone remembers they have to respect adults and fellow classmates. I see kids being mean to others and then the next day try to be friends with that person they made fun of, and get mad that they won’t acknowledge them because of what they did the day before. People need to relies that if you don't respect others they will probably not waste their time to respect you back. Showing respect for others is not that hard you just need to be nice. Even if you don't like a person you should still respect them, and be the bigger person. No matter what you do or wear you are you always have to show respect. To be in a business or any job you need to be able to show respect to anyone.
No matter who you are you deserve respect from others. Some people may not believe that but I feel that no matter what you did you still deserve some sort of respect. I think absolutely everybody who is alive or not deserves respect. I feel that you can’t stand up and be the bigger person and show some kind of respect to someone no matter what they did to you or someone you know you are low. People should not get treated badly just for what they look like and how they act they are people too. I strongly believe that everyone should be show some kind of respect weather you like them or not.
I agree that we should be respectful, but you shouldn't respect someone no matter what. Would you respect a murderer? I'd hope not, since they obviously do not deserve respect. I can see where you're coming from, but I think respect is earned.
DeleteDo you think respect is important? What do you think respect is? How id it shown? In your view why or why not do you respect people? yes i do think respect is important because respect is something that everybody needs to learn. with out respect people would always fight. they would also be more bullying.i think respect is feeling a deep admiration for someoene.respect is shown everyday. for example if your mother tells you to go clean your room and you tell her im going to do it right now. you have respect for what your mother is saying. its all shown by not talking back to an adult. i respect people because i would want the same respect back. i wouldnt want to disrespect someoen and they take it the wrong way. then they would try to start a problem with me. i think everyone should show respect because maybe someone has a bad life and they are deprresed all the time. i would want people to have respect for what someone might be going through. i have respected people and disrespected people in my life.i only disrespect the people who disrespect me. i dont like disrespecting but i have to i will. i think respect has to be earned. i dont think that people should just respect others when others dont respect them. people earned my respect and i have earned other peoples respect. what im trying to say is that respect is something that the earth revolves around. respect is a powerful word and i think respect should be earned not given. peopel should be respected not disrespected.
ReplyDeleteYour comment is good and I totally agree with your opinion.
