William Shakespeare said "It is not the stars that hold
our destiny, but it is in
ourselves"

the quote in your own words and be specific

own life or outside of your life? Give
specific examples from your
life, literature, a movie or history
William Shakespeare said "It is not the stars that hold our destiny, but it is in ourselves". In the old days when Shakespeare was around, the stars and philosophy were significantly important to them. I think this quote is part of the theory that the stars could impact how your life played out. In my opinion when Shakespeare said this, I believe he realized the stars have absolutely nothing to do with the way you live your life, and that only you can choose which way you head throughout the courses of our lives. For example, if you love being in charge and teaching, maybe you want to be a teacher when you grow up. It's in your power to Persue those dreams, and only your desire and will to achieve that goal. No one else can determine your fate.
ReplyDeleteThis qoute can relate to me in a way. One example is that I once had a friend that was really cool, funny, and nice. I always thought that she was the perfect role model and I wanted to follow in her footsteps. That all changed when she moved to North Dakota, and I never saw her again. When she was gone it made me realize what I really wanted to be when I grew up, and what I was capable of doing by myself.
This qoute by Shakespeare can also relate to a movie. That movie is Mean Girls. I picked this as a movie to relate to because the plastics were always telling everyone what to do in their group. One example is that they had to wear pink on Wednesdays, and your only allowed to wear a ponytail once a week. Like, wear what you want!! A group of sassy girls shouldn't determine what you wear or who you hang out with, because you have the destiny to make better friends and where what you want.
In conclusion I think this qoute means that only you can choose how your life will pan out, and no one can choose your fate. Only yourself.
William Shakespeare once said "it is not the stars that hold our destiny, but its in ourselves." I think these were very wise words by a great man. I think what this wise man meant was that your life is not set when your born, your life will be how you make it and want it to be. no one in this time period can make you do something in your life. all of your choices reflect on how you will live your life. for example as a kid Derek jeter always dreamed of being the starting short stop for the new York Yankees. on his journey to success many people told Derek that he wouldn't make it. no one was telling him he could do it. Derek not only became the starting short stop but one of the greatest players to ever play the game of baseball. He retired this year from his dream job and is now in a couple of years will be in the hall of fame in Cooperstown new York as one of the best baseball players ever. Jeter didn’t let what anyone said to him along his path to greatness determine what his life’s outcome was going to be. I think that is what William meant, nothing else can determine our futures as human beings. The only one who can do that is us. Over all William Shakespeares quotes “it is not the stars that hold our destiny, but it is in our selves” is a great quote and has a lot of meaning.
ReplyDeleteThe way you explain every blog is great. You're a good writer and always know the best things to say. You're good at relating it to yourself or when it comes to baseball. I'm impressed on your writing, I love reading them every week! good job colin
DeleteColin, you explained the qoute amazingly! I love how you used Derek Jeter as your example. I agree that he was the greatest baseball player too! Also, great job on using various details to support your opinion
ReplyDelete"It is not the stars that hold our destiny, but it is in ourselves." What I believe this quote means, is that nobody decides our future, but us. Nobody else could make decisions for us and it's very important that everybody realizes that; or else they may go down the wrong path. Thinking that you are not responsible for every single thing you do is completely wrong in my opinion. Everybody has their own decisions to make and I don't believe anybody has enough time, or should, anyway; to be able to make decisions for anybody else. This quote should relate to everybody's life in at least one way. It relates to me because, when I was younger, I never used to take responsibility for anything I did. I would always blame it on somebody else and think that I could do. I used to think, "Whatever happens, happens." Now I know that we all make our own future and there's nothing anybody could do about it. Your choices are what makes your future, not other's. This quote also relates to history in an uncountable amount of ways. History will always repeat itself, no matter what anybody does there's nothing that controls the way the Earth evolves. People used to think that the gods controlled their fate, their future, their whole entire life. Most people today think that they were completely nuts for believing in the weird, crazy gods that they believed in. I truthfully believe that if they weren't depending on their gods, thinking that everything they did would be dealt with by the gods, their civilizations would have lasted much longer. This quote is extremely important and I'm sure every single person on this planet Earth could relate to it in at least one way.
ReplyDeleteMia, your reply to this quote is great! I think you explained what the quote meant really well and you can good specific examples. I liked how you related this quote to history, and what you said about it is completely true. You cant always get rid of the past, it will always repeat itself. Also, good job relating the quote to yourself. Anyway, nice job with this weeks blog! it was really good;)
DeleteIt is not the stars that hold our destiny, but it is in ourselves." What I think this quote means is nobody tells me what my destiny holds. What I do in life is up to me, nobody should be making decisions for you anyway. You need to do them on your own, how are you going to survive in life if you don’t make your OWN decisions. Are you going to depend on them for your entire life? You really shouldn’t because it can lead you to the wrong path. There is one way this quote relates to me, I make my own decisions I don’t want to depend on nobody else but myself. I tell myself what I am going to do or not going to do. I think that a lot of people should do that because that’s what life is. You’re not going to have your parents or friends around forever. You can’t rely on them to lead you the right way. Again, this relates to me because I learned not to rely on anybody, I am leading myself the right way through my life. For example, if you want to get a job and you ask your friend if they like it or not. Say they don’t like it, don’t go off of what they say go with what your heart feels. Trust me you will be better off doing what YOU want to do instead of what anyone else wants to do. This quote is an excellent quote and it gives some good advice so I’m sure that you can relate to this quote and maybe learn something from it.
ReplyDeletehey Lilly, I totally agree with your perspective on what the quote means. "You wont survive in life if you don't make your OWN decisions." This line stuck out the most to me, "NOT JUST BECAUSE OF THE CAPITAL LETTERS" haha but because if you rely on everyone else you won't make it through life. I loved your blog entry this week, and I loved how you related it to your friends. :) great blog entry!
DeleteLillian, I love your reply to this and I agree with everything you said! You won't go far in life if you don't make decisions for yourself. Also, I love how you said that you learned to not rely on anybody, that's really mature of you. I feel that doing what your heart tells you to do is extremely important as well and nobody else's opinion should matter. "You're not going to have your parents or friends around forever.", that's a really important thing that I think a lot of people need to realize. Again, I completely agree with everything you said and love your entry this week.
DeleteOne of the most extraordinary men known as William Shakespeare once said "It is not the stars that hold our destiny, but it is in ourselves." To me this quote means that your life is what you make it. I also think this quotes means that nobody but yourself decides your future. I also think this quote means to make your own decisions but make them for yourself. Don't do what people expect you to do, do them for you. This quote by this amazing man can relate to everyone at least 1000 times, and in everyday life. This quote relates to me because for the longest time I tried living up to my families expectations. My grandma always expected me to be like my "perfect" sister; Or getting perfect grades like my honor student brother. It's hard being the middle child because you feel abandon. I got into a really dark place, and all the stress from my family that added onto it. I decided that I wasn't happy that way. I didn't feel pretty, or excepted in what I wore or how I "tried" to be. Then one day I realized that it was my life. I am my own person, I make my own decisions. I started changing my style, and embracing who I was, and who I loved to be. My choices and my future is what I want it to be. It took me a while to find myself, and I finally feel beautiful. So many people are afraid to be themselves, because they are afraid of society's expectations. But, if you finally love yourself, and who you are, and you know what you're going to become then keep your head up, and be proud of who you are. William Shakespeare once said "It is not the stars that hold our destiny, but it is in ourselves"
ReplyDeletethis quote can relate to the lead singer of my chemical romance; Gerard way. When he was young people discouraged him. He was bullied in school, and people told him that he would never make it. However, he stayed strong, and got a band that changed the music industry forever. My Chemical Romance is an amazing band and changed the lives of millions. This goes to show that anything is possible, and no one has control over your destiny except yourself.
I think you really had a great perspective on the quote. You are the only one that decides your future. I think all middle children do have a lot of expectation weight on their shoulders. Like the over achieving or attention hogging siblings. It's great that you realized that you had to be yourself. I love how you said that how people are afraid to be themselves because they are afraid of what society will say. I also love how you didn't just relate the quote to yourself but you also related it to a musical artist. Great job explaining the quote.
Delete“It is not the stars that hold our destiny, but it is in ourselves,” was once said by William Shakespeare. I believe that this quote could mean many possible things to everyone all over the world. To me, this quote means that you can not always rely on other people to guide you through obstacles. You can not always always count on other people to do something for you. You should always set goals for yourself and try your hardest to achieve them. Last, I feel it means that you should always have faith in yourself and discover what you want to do. For example, if you are doing a group project you should never just rely on one person to do the whole thing because they can always let you down and wind up getting a bad grade.
ReplyDeleteThis quote can relate to me as well at the world around me. It can relate to me by, when I was younger, I always wanted to follow my best friend and do whatever she did. She did cheer and then I started cheer. We did everything together. We were following eachothers footsteps. She started turning into a different person that I began not to recognize anymore. I realized that that was no longer the person that I wanted to be. We were growing further apart and she began to hang out with the wrong people. I found new friends that seem to be more loyal than she was and that I am better off with. This quote by William Shakespeare, in my opinion, is one to live by.
William Shakespeare said "It is not the stars that hold our destiny, but it is in ourselves" This means that we control our own destiny. A lot of people believed that you don't control your own destiny, That all of it is laid out for you. What William Shakespeare is saying that he doesn't come from that school of thought. He believes that you can achieve or do anything that you want. We have the will power to change it ourselves it not set in stone or already laid out. This can relate to me because there was a time where I was told that I couldnt do somthing and everything was already done. Instead I tried harder and and I kept going and eventually I got what I wanted . I changed what was I told I couldnt. My destiny is not in the hands of others or set in stone its in me and I can change it.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion I think that the quote "It is not the stars that hold our destiny, but it is in ourselves" William shakesphere means that you cant just think that god or Buddha what ever religion you believe in will do every thing for you. You have to create your own path through the woods, and keep fighting through the brush no matter how much it sucks. Because once you cant go any more the people behind you that you didn’t even notice will take over your legacy so always set your own path, be a leader not a follower. This quote relates to my life because when I first wanted to play soccer I just figured that I would just do what every one else dose. But as I started to get better I wanted to make my own destiny. At the age of eight I had already received 6 mvp awards playing a year above my age. I was classified as whole new breed of player. I soon found out that the stars was where every one else was looking for answers and I needed to look within my self for the answers. In past years I have benn playing around the country and world. I have played in Virginia florida Scotland and it may even take me to spain in the upcoming year. My play has improved tramensely but in the last year it has come to a bit of a flat line. There is little ups here and there but mabey I just need to look inside of my self for some answers instead of the stars where every one else is looking.
ReplyDeleteWilliam Shakespeare said "It is not the stars that hold our destiny, but it is in ourselves.” I think this quote means that we can do anything by ourselves. We don’t need other people telling us what we think is right or what will be better. Everything you do with be up to you because they won’t be there every step of the way “holding your hand.” It’s up to you who you want to be, never let someone change your mind when you’re set on something. This quote can relate to me in many ways. But this is mainly on who my family looks at me. Living with a total of 6 siblings’ is a lot of work, one is “better than the other.” We all try to be just like each other just so our parents will give us their attention. But after a while that didn’t work because we didn’t even know who we were. That’s when we just decided to be the person we wanted to be, not caring what our mom or dad would say. Sometimes our dad would know what to say to us in a conversation and sometimes he didn’t. It was hard to keep up at first, but then it got easier. We all would talk and get along. It’s better to be the person you feel is right and there is nothing wrong with that. Also remember to never let anyone tell you who you have to be. It’s all inside of you.
ReplyDeleteI liked the way you explained your quote! I agree with your ideas as well. overall good job Alyssa.
DeleteWilliam Shakespeare once said "It is not the stars that hold our destiny, but it is in ourselves". Many people would say that the destiny of our future lies within the stars. Some would agree with this logic as some people choose to take the path there ancestors have taken. I believe this quote basically means that many think that there whole future and life in general is planned for them, when really, we are all able to create our own destiny. There is no other person in this world that determines your path but you. Not even family or close friends, it's all you.
ReplyDeleteThis quote can relate to my life in many ways. One way involves what I want to do when I'm older. I have different interests for my future than my parents did. My mom works behind a desk all day and my dad is in law enforcement. Unlike them, I want to be a performer. I want to be a singer, actress, and musician. I want to inspire people through music and help people who are going through hard times. If I can be a positive influence on young boys and girls, it would feel like the most amazing accomplishment in the world. I also want to be writer. Remember that you can do whatever you want to do with your life, it your choice. Our destiny is not written in the stars, it is within us, we just need to have the courage to pursue them. Keep all faith in your dreams, you never know what will happen.
Hey Nenah, I believe that you did a very well job on describing what this quote means to you. I completely agree with you. The only person that can determine what you do in your life is yourself. I like how you explained what you want to do when you are older. You used great examples. I wish you the best of luck for your future career!
DeleteWilliam Shakespeare was known for his simple poetry with deep meanings. Everyone may interpret this in different ways but what I believe Shakespeare means when he says “It is not the stars that hold our destiny, but it is in ourselves” is it’s not just about the shiny, neat things that appeal to us. It’s not as easy as following the North Star to find your way, that won’t help us get far, we need to make ourselves go far, and we need to work for it. I can relate this to real life because we constantly try to follow the footsteps of someone else or try to find loop holes to get out of things and make things easier for ourselves. We don’t work for what we want most of the time, we wait for others to either do it first or do it for us. Or maybe he means you can’t wish upon something and just wait for it to magically happen, you have to do it yourself and get things done. The stars can’t determine your future, a wish can’t determine your future, but you can. No one understands that though, we all waste wishes on silly things that we could probably make happen by ourselves. We take it for granted that we have so much power, some animals are more skilled in making things happen for themselves than humans are and it’s a lot harder for them. Like squirrels for example, before they hibernate they have to consume enough food to last the winter, they don’t wish for food to just magically appear and they don’t go for the cheap small acorns on the tree next to the one they live in, they go a mile away to get the really big acorns. Humans should be more like that; go out of their way for what they want.
ReplyDeleteWow Kayla I love the way you explained. Reading the part about the squirrels made me laugh but its true. You put so much details into it. Great job I enjoyed reading this
DeleteWilliam Shakespeare once said "It is not the stars that hold our destiny, but it is in ourselves" I think that this means many things, depending on how you interpret it. Many people believe that destiny is destiny. They believe that they can make all the bad decisions they want and they will still end up in a good place. That isn't true at all. You put yourself up for either failure or success. It isn't in "gods" hands. I mean, of course he is watching over you and here to help you when you need it, but if you mess something up he will make you face your consequences and learn from your mistakes. It is important for us to realize this too, so that we don't repeat our mistakes.
ReplyDeleteThis quote does relate to my personal life as well. This is because my best friend and I made a big mistake a few months back. I didn't think I would get caught, so I went right along and did it. And even if I got caught, I didn't think anything would really happen to me. Then when my mother caught us, it changed many things. It basically changed my whole life. I wasn't able to hang out with her for a good two months and my mom lost a lot of trust in me. This is trust that will take a lot to gain back. I feel terrible that I disrespected my mom like that, but it was my decision and no one else's. I do take full responsibility for my actions and i now know that my future is all up to me.
William Shakespeare said" It is not the stars that hold our destiny, but it is in ourselves". What I think this quote means is we are all meant do something great because we are all good at something. Everyone has a special talent. We are all different and unique. We can all do something great but we just have to use your talents. No one is able to tell you what you can do and what you can't do. Also I can relate this to another quote. Ronaldihno once said " God gives gifts to everyone. But that means nothing. It's what you make of them that count". His gift is he is amazing at soccer. He didn't care that he wasn't the best looking guy or that his parents didn't have that much money. Nothing ever brought him down. His smile changed the world of soccer. He just loved the talent that he got. He never gave up and became one of the best soccer players of all time. He changed the way soccer is played now. Both quotes have similar meanings. Also, both people who said it made their own future. Nothing was able to stol them. William Shakespeare said " It is not the stars that hold our destiny, but it is in ourselves. This quote is quote anyone can relate to. He was a wise person and this was a great quote.
ReplyDeleteWilliam Shakespeare said "It is not the stars that hold our destiny, but it is in ourselves." This quote means that rather than believe something good will happen because of fate, you have to work towards your destiny, making your own path to it. Its simply just personification, stating that if the stars hold our destiny, eventually they'll drop them and reveal it to us. William Shakespeare had a smart mind, because what he meant was true. Rather than waiting for the starts to continue shining and doing what they usually do, you should work towards what you want your destiny to be, what your aiming for in life. Then you have to continue at it until you reach it. Instead of the stars handing you your destiny, you'll be up there, above the clouds in happiness and proud of your success. This relates to my life in a way when I decided doing absolutely nothing will get me nowhere, and that I wont become something. I believe nobody has a destiny, and we all work towards things and assume it was our destiny because of the fact we practiced on end to become good at that thing. Therefore in life when you work towards things, you develop talent, and then grow up with your chosen 'destiny' as the years pass and you succeed at what you wanted to become. In my life, it happened with grades. It was my 'destiny' to pass last year, and with tons of studying, I did. Simple as that. Destiny doesn't seem to exist, its whats in our mind, telling us that the figment of imagination is actually persuading us and pushing us to succeed because of what we believe. That's why William Shakespeare Was a very witty and smart man, he saw the world in a different way, and thats why his writing was so great.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. We definitely are in control of what happens to us. It is also important to note that our life is a work in progress and that we can adapt to change things in a positive way. Decisions are not made for us. We have to make our own choices and do what we think is right for ourselves.
