  1. A great man that goes by the name of Ghandi once said a popular quote in today’s modern life that stated ,“ Be the change you wish to see in the world.” This quote has many meanings. What I think he was trying to get across by saying these famous words are that if you want a change you cannot just sit and wait and wait and wait, the change will never happen. What he is saying is that if you want to see a change in something you have to go out and change it your self and not just wait for people to do it for you because that will never happen. This relates to our society because so many kids and adults want everything handed to them and that’s not how it works. If you want something to happen or change you have to go do it yourself and most people in today’s society do not do that. They are lazy and will never do anything for a change. This quote means may things to me. The main thing it means is that ghandi wanted to see people encouraged to go out and make the changes they want to happen in the world happen. A place I can relate this quote to is Stuart Scott. He recently died a couple of days agofrom cancer after fighting it for several years. He changed the perspective of peoples lives all over the world from his speech at the espy’s. stuart scott wanted to make a change in this world for people who have cancer. He wanted them people with cancer to understand that you can beat cancer even if it kills you, and you can do that by the way you live. He wanted people with cancer to not sit around and say they are going to die and waste there life. he wants them to go out and live there life like they don’t have cancer like he did.

    1. Hey Colin, I really enjoyed your blog this week. I LOVED your personal outlook on the quotes meaning. I agree that if you want to change something, or make a difference in the world then you need to get up and make an effort. I agree that nothing will change if you don't take responsibility to change them. I also agree that in life today people are presented with things and don't have to work for them. Unfortunately, in my opinion technology has influenced that a lot. Last I thought it was remarkable when you mentioned how people with cancer still have reasons to live for, carry on, and not to give up. I was very fond of your blog entry this week, and I loved the examples you used to relate back to Ghandi's inspirational words.

Also, I liked when you stated" ghandi wanted to see people encouraged to change" because I believe that too. Keep up the great work

  2. A wise man by the name of Ghandi once said “ Be the change you wish to see in the world.” To me this quote means do what you think is right. By this I mean set an example in your actions, words, and every day life. When you witness something you want to change, change it. I don't mean bully other people or belittle others because you don't like what they are wearing. What I mean is take the bad things in life and turn them into something good. When someone's sad comfort them, if someone needs help, be there for them; if someone just needs a smile, give them one. The quote “ Be the change you wish to see in the world.” means that you can make a difference, and that you do have the power to become what you want, to change the world, and make it a better place! This quote can be related to society, or in our everyday lives in multiple ways. One example is people that we come across in our every day lives. In our day and age now most people are greedy, ignorant, rude, careless, cruel, and hurtful. However we can make a difference in the world by killing them with kindness. By smiling at them you are making an impression that you are not like everyone else. You are a leader. Another way this quote can relate to our everyday lives and things people do is whether your donating money to a charity, or even the littlest thing as in holding the door for someone. Your bringing good into the world. This quote reminds me of the time I was in "WaWa" with my mom. We were waiting in line and this older women in front of us couldn't find enough change to pay for her coffee; so my mom bought it for her. My mom likes to call these situations "simple acts of kindness." Another time this quote can relate to was when I was at "Taco bell' with my sister. Beings that I am a vegetarian, I didn't eat haha. Anyway, we were sitting down and this homeless man walked in and you could tell he was starved so my sister and I bought him a meal. The quote “ Be the change you wish to see in the world.” by Ghandi I can personally relate to myself because I try to take the bad things in life and turn them into something good. I tend to view the world differently from most people because I went through so much at such a young age and I no what its like to feel like there nothing worth living for. I understand that there is so much pain in life, and sometimes it's difficult to ignore all the negativity. I know this because I was constantly blinded by the darkness of the world. But when you realize how beautiful life is; and you really open your eyes you see how amazing it is. There are glimpses of heaven in everyday; and even though life is hard sometimes you have to keep moving forward because pain doesn't last forever.

I love how your mom paid for the woman's coffee and how you and your sister paid for the homeless man's meal. I love how you always try to take the bad things in life and turn them into something good. Also, I really agreed with your last sentence, and your right, pain doesn't last forever. Keep up the great work on your blogs, they rock!

  3. “ Be the change you wish to see in the world.” A man by the name of ghandi has said this qoute a fairly long time ago. I think this qoute means that if you want to change something, especially if it's as important as the world, you have to take charge, because things don't just happen by themselves. This can relate to our society because in the U.S. We use up to 4 times more of the resources as other countries around the world! That means, we are going to run out of sustainable resources we need to survive like water, food, land, or shelter, quicker then we can keep up with. In order to change what is happening right now we can stop using so much water, and stop eating so much meat such as beef. It takes hundreds of acres just to support cows, but if we reduce the amount of meat we eat, and replace it with things like veggies, we can help save the planet because we have more land which is a key component to survive with a growing population.
This relates to not only me but everyone in the U.S. By the year 2050 there is determined to be an estimated 11 billion people in the world, when earth can only hold an estimated 9 billion people. There will not be enough land, water, or food for all of us people, so If we start to fix our bad habits now, we will be able to make an impact on the way we will live in 35 years. I learned all of this by a movie I watched in Mrs. Haines class. It was called "soylent green" which was about people in 2050 and how horrible they were living. They had to sleep on stairs of buildings, and ate little to nothing because their was no food. The only thing they ate were crackers called "soylent green" which later we found out we're made of dead people. People had to workout to form energy and it was $150 just for a little jar of strawberries, the size of a baby food can.
If we don't start conserving our valuable resources that we need for sustainable living now, in 2050 we will be hit hard with all the problems. If people don't start helping out, then basically we are all screwed because earth isn't just gonna go " hey let me expand to help people out." We have to make the Change ourselves, or they will never happen.

  4. Ghandi once said “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” I think this quotes means that so many people want the world to be the way they want it to be. That could be a good or a bad thing. I say this because some people went to just ruin it and make others stuffer but others want something good out of it. What I’m trying to say is to not wait forever, go out there and make it happen. It can relate to our society because so many people just don’t care what happens. But once something bad happens that messes up to what they have they want something to change. And this is where the quote can come in handy. It is alright to believe what you want but if you want something done than you got to go do it. Never wait for something its either you go and fight for it or you just get over it. It is always a good thing to do what is best for the world and we need to do something about it. Everyone needs to stop making fun of people. That’s one change people want to see in the world. There are so many others. It is not fair to the people that have to deal with it because they aren’t doing anything wrong. I see all over the internet kids getting bullied and some people don’t do anything about it. It is really sad to see because they don’t need that and the other person just doesn’t care about anything. That’s one really big thing I would like to see change. It will solve so many other problems in the world and people don’t see that. They look at the smallest things to change and that’s not the right thing to do. We first need to look at the big problems today and everything will slowly start looking better for us in the world we live in.

  5. “Be the change you wish to see in the world” Ghandi once pronounced, his mind full of these meaningful quotes. Ghandi means when he says this to make a change and maybe somehow it will rub off on others and change the world. He’s trying to get people to stop complaining and step up and put things into action. Everyone seeks some kind of change, weather if its change in global warming, or hunger, and those changers people don't seem to try and help. They assume offical people to solve it, when a few people cant help as much as when many people chip in. People just wish to have things just handed to them, and Ghandi said this to mean to make an effort rather than watch the change crumble. He was a peace keeper. He’s simply saying, rather than screaming at your television at home, get up and get involved, make a change no matter what it is. Everyday people assume problems are going to be fixed by what’s causing it, but sometimes it just exceeds to be a problem. For example, when I was younger, I loved marine animals, and I used to go to the aquarium every sunday with my mom and best friend. I always disliked how they were kept in a restricted spot, I always complained to my mother, and of course she couldn't do anything. So I saved up any money I had received for a whole year, and bought lots of fish, and my mother agreed to allow me to let them all go in the local lakes or ponds. I felt like I made the fish happier. I felt like a made a huge change in the world by saving the small fish from being caged and sad. I was very proud and I look back at that moment, knowing it was a simple thing that I felt changed everything. Another example is in the movie ‘The Amazing Spiderman’ Peter Parker wants Flash Thompson to stop bullying him, so once he discovers his superpowers, he shows him up by teasing him (and throwing him into a basketball hoop). That is an example of making a change that he wants to see.

    1. I agree with how you said people need to stop complaining and step up and actually do something. I also liked how you said you saved up you're money from a whole year and bought fish and let them free in the waters. Little things like that could make a lot of things better.

  6. A great, wise man once said “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” That wise man goes by the name of Ghandi. This quote could possibly mean many different things. To me, this quote means that if you want to see something change, then you have to be the one to change it, or to start the change. If you do not start something that you would like to see happen, you might never be able to see it happen. This quote could be related to our society and everyday things that people do in many ways. For example, people in our society sit around and just wait or everything to be and to them, and a lot of the time, it just never get done, and that should not be how it is. A lot of people in our generation are to lazy to do anything. For example, they are too lazy to change something, even of thy want it to happen. This is not how our society should be. Our society should be one where you have to work for what you want yourself, not have people get it or make it for you.

To me, this quote means that you have to work for what you want and what you believe in. I can relate this quote too many things in the world. Manly I can relate it to people that try to stop something. For example, bullying. People that try to stop bullying have usually been through it, whether it has been themselves, or someone that they know. They are trying to change bullying by trying to stop it. They are being the change and stop something that they know is wrong. Another example is trying to stop people from smoking. They have antismoking ads all around. People want smoking to stop because it can either make people very sick, or even kill them. People like this, that try to stop something that could be very bad, are the people that want to see the change. They are being the change that they wish to see.

  7. People go on rants and complain about how things are done in the world, how leaders run things, but they’re all bark and no bite. They don’t actually act on their opinions. Unlike the people who actually go out and act upon their opinions, like protesters for example, or people who run charities or important organizations. They believed in something and they acted upon it. The ASPCA, they wanted something to be done about animal abuse and strays, so they made their own business and started changing those things themselves. Some people want to see change, while others want to be the change. This quote to me means if you’re not going to act upon something, don’t complain and wish. If you voted for Obama but don’t like his choices, that’s on you completely. You have no room to talk because you acted upon that. If you don’t like the fact that people are starving in 3rd world countries, donate to organizations who change that, don’t sit on your couch and wait for other people to care too. You can’t hope that eventually other people will care, because it will get nowhere unless someone starts it. You can’t wish to see change, you have to be the change, and you have to act upon your opinion. Like in the movie Elf, instead going home and giving up with trying to make his real father on the nice list instead of naughty, he tries and tries to be a part of his life and make him a better person, or when Santa’s sleigh doesn’t work because its lacking magic, he got the whole town to sing to Christmas songs and get everyone in spirit, instead of moping around and being upset, he fixed the problem by being himself and getting people to like him. If it weren’t for the girl he met, no one would have been singing and the spirit wouldn’t have come back like they needed it to. He acted upon his wishes instead of waiting for someone else to do it.

  8. A man named Ghandi once said “Be the change you wish to see in the world” I personally think this quote means, you be the change. You change what you want the world to be like. For instance, if you don’t like the way some people are doing things and you see that it’s a big problem, go and change it because you can’t wait forever. Also, we shouldn’t be changing things because certain things are stupid, we should be changing things because it will make us a better society in the future. Speaking with society, I do think that this relates to our society because everyone needs a little change or wants a change in their lifestyle. Everyone has a different opinion on what they want to change, even if it’s something personal. It can help us in the future and make our lives easier. With this opportunity we can make the things that we hate better. Step up and don’t complain about anything we do or don’t have because this is your chance to change. We should all get involved instead of sitting on the phones and watching TV, it’s not making the world better, that’s what Ghandi is trying to say. It totally relates to today’s society because half the people don’t want to make a change. This quote means a lot of things to me. It tells me that we can actually make the world better than it is today, we can change our own lives. Even if it’s a change you want to do for public or a change you want to do to yourself. There is definitely plenty of ways that this quote applies to everyday life. I think we should change the way people talk to each other, ever since iPhone came out, that’s all everyone does. Play game son their phones, tweets, post pictures on Instagram. Yeah, it’s what all teenagers do but we should communicate in person more. Someone is always on their phone or texting, you can talk to each other, especially when 2 people are sitting next to each other and they are texting. That’s one big problem that I think we should change in today’s society. This quote that Ghandi wrote is a great quote and I think everyone should think about the future and how things might look.

Great job on this weeks blog.

  9. "Be the change you wish to see in the world."- Ghandi. This is a very powerful quote, and I believe it means that if you want something bad enough; you may have to start it. World peace may start from just a couple of sweet comments to make some individuals day. I believe this quote means to spread your own word rather than anybody else's. To start your dreams instead of following them. If a girl/boy are friends with a couple of people who may put other people down, THEY can possible change the situation. You want to stop bullying, start it by inviting a person sitting alone to your table. Take control of your wants and possible somebody else's needs. Bullying is a way this can relate to our society today. A lot of people do not stand up for people who are being bullied because they are afraid it will turn on to them. That shouldn't be the case. Nobody should be afraid of sticking up for anybody, especially if that possibly means saving the rest of their school career! This quote also relates to a sad, but good movie; cyber bully. A teenaged girl is struggling with being bullied in the movie for things that aren't even true. At the end of this movie, she stands up to the bully and even tries to get a cyber law passed in her state. THAT'S what being the change you wish to see in the world is. Making a difference because you don't want somebody to suffer the way you did, or may have. This quote is very inspiring and should be used more often, and also practiced more often. There's nothing that feels better than accomplishing your goals, or making somebody else feel better than they may have felt before. What this quote means to me, is that nobody should be afraid to change what they want to change. Make your life better and easier on yourself, not delayed and difficult.

Also, the relation you made to the movie " cyber bully" that's a great example because it explains what Owens on the internet & it is a big problem that we need to change . I agree with you that this quote is inspiring ,anyway good job with this weeks blog !

  10. “ Be the change you wish to see in the world.” - Ghandi. I think this quote means that if you want to see change in the world or in your life you have to do something about it. For example, if you are unhappy with your job or career you have to quit your job and find one that your happy with. It may not be easy but if you really want something you will succeed at finding it or doing what you wanna do. Things just won't come to you magically, so you have to do something about it. This quote means alot to me. It means alot to me because if I want to change something about me or in my life I read it and then do something about it. For example, if im not happy with my progress at the gym im going to start drinking more protein shakes, lifting more, and going to the gym more often. If I do that then I will see progress. I will get more toned and muscular. This can relate to society because if society doesn't like a law or a product they will start a peaceful protest outside the factory where the product is made or a federal law office.

  11. "Be the change you wish to see in the world" was a smart quote said by Ghandi. What I think this quote means is if you want something to change you have to do something about it. Also, things may change by the actions you make. You can be a happy person and the people around you will make them happy too but if you're upset you can make others upset. Anything can change with the blink of an eye so watch out. Many people say they want to change something but never do anything about it. Anyone can just keep on talking and saying how they want to change something but the real people are the one that do something to change something. I can relate to this quote by I saw the way Malala Yousafzai did to the world. Not everyone gets to go to school like everyone in North America. Places like in Pakistan or Afghanistan people can't go to school and girls are even allowed to go to school. Women around those areas don't really have much rights. Malala just wanted to go to school and was shot because of that. Luckily she was not killed and was able to tell her story. Now she goes all around the world telling everyone what happens. She was one of the youngest people to win the Nobel Peace Prize. This is what I think the quote "Be the change you wish to see in the world" by Ghandi means to me.

  12. A wise man named Ghandi once said "Be the change you wish to see in the world" In my opinion I think this quote is very amazing. I think this quote means that if there is a problem in this world that you feel needs to be tackled, then you have to stop waiting for someone to do it and do it yourself. Create the trail and be the first. No problem in this world is going to disappear magically but that doesn't mean it can't be stopped. "Be the change you wish to see in the world" can relate to a very important problem in this world called pollution. Everyday I see trash sitting on the ground and sometimes plastic bags hanging on to trees near the forest. I don't know if the person who left that trash really thought before dropping it because those plastic bags and crumbled pieces of paper can make their way to the sewer, which leads to the ocean. In the ocean that plastic bag could look like a jellyfish to a sea turtle which is the sea turtles favorite thing to eat. That sea turtle might then choke on the bag and die. We as humans need to start thinking before we do something dumb. It's not just sea life we are killing, it's also the earth itself. Now I don't know about you, but I sure don't want to be living like the people in the Wall-E movie. Yet sadly, if we keep doing what we're doing, that's what will happen.
"Be the change you wish to see in the world" can also relate to problem in this world called bullying. The sad truth is that kids can be mean. This is a big problem that our world is facing today and it is not simple to get rid of, but it can be done. We can do this by just simply being kind to others. If we just stopped judging each other for our differences and just showed love and kindness we would be able to get rid of bullying. This is what I think of the quote "Be the change you wish to see in the world" means to me. Let's work together and change this world for the better.

  13. “ Be the change you wish to see in the world.” - Ghandi. In my opinion I think that this quote means that this world needs more go getters. There was once and stil is a great football player jj watt that once sai that ther are people that want to doi it there are people that try to do it, ut the people that actually do it are the ones that are going to get some where in life that actually means something. This quote means that you cant just tell other people to do things that you think are good for the world or other people. Do the thing that you want to see changed. Set an example for the rest of the world and when all of those people are following you like a hungry dog you will feel like a king. There are a lot of people in my life that say oh I want to be a pro basket ball player but they don’t put the work in by themselves to be that athlete that they so very want to be. They just talk out of there but because they are to lazy to do it and when they tell people that the do it they are lying because they are just to lazy to actuallty do it. In a movie that I once saw ther was a very power full man that had a lot of money an he was the boos of a cartel. He could not understand why his men could not just kill this one man that he wanted killed and he killed who ever did not succed if not all ready dead. But what he did not realize was that that man was a marine and when he tried he saw that the man was very intelligent and was killed. So dpnt sit around and say you want to do it because chanses are you don’t really know how hard it is.
