“You just hold your head high and keep those fists down. No
matter what anybody says to you, don’t you let ‘em get your goat. Try fighting with your head for
a change.” – Atticus Finch
*What do you think this quote means? What does it mean to
you personally?
*Give an example from your own life when you have seen
yourself or someone else experience this.
The quote "You just hold your head high and keep those fists down. No matter what anybody says to you, don't you let 'em get your goat. Try fighting with your a head for a change" said by Sir Atticus Finch could me many things. Theirs no wrong thought about this quote as along as you explain yourself. I personally think this quote means that don't let the little things get to you and bother you, their only temporarily their are better things bound to come along. You can't always jump at someone or something every time it makes you mad, annoyed or even uncomfortable our society would be reckless and their would be brawls, fights, wars all the time. You have to learn how to let certain things slip your mind and not get bothered. I think the second part of this quote means that you must be the smarter and bigger person because you don't want to get into any trouble for something so pointless.
ReplyDeleteHow this quote relates to my personal life exactly? Well in sports this does 95% of the time I always get annoyed with other players especially if they're cocky and it makes me want to just snap. But I have to keep my cool or I will get tossed out of the game or get ejected, and my team would need me there. This also happens in people's everyday lives, rumor about you goes around and you want to find out where it started and once you do you want to beat up that person. Well you can't do that it wouldn't be the right thing to do like I said before about sports this is still a big role, you must keep yourself under control. You must stop your emotions, now sometimes I see people fight but that's not always the best idea after all. You both would get suspended maybe even expelled depending on how long you fought for and if anyone else got hurt in the process (physically). This is how I feel about the quote this week that Sir Atticus Finch had said in the book "To Kill A Mockingbird".
Great quote Chris I totally agree with you. I also total understand your main point of views like not letting little things get to you or bother you. And also like when you said about being the bigger person in any situation and always use your head. Great quote and nice job.
DeleteI totally agree with you Chris. I like how me and you had the same points of how fighting is bad and it's better to think about it in your head instead of actually fighting about it. I like the example you have used because it make you really think about the quote and the actual meaning.
DeleteAtticus Finch, the fictional character in To Kill A Mocking Bird, once said to his daughter Scout that “You just hold your head high and keep those fists down. No matter what anybody says to you, don’t you let ‘em get your goat. Try fighting with your head for a change.” I think Atticus means that instead of fighting physically you should use your head to figure out a better outcome or approach of the situation. I say this because in the story scout would refer to violence to solve any of her conflicts or situation. This quote means to me personally that there will always be an easier way out if you use your brain and thick of what to do. A quote that I think will relate to Atticus’s quote is one that my father will tell me all the time “It’s good to think before you speak however it is better to think before you act.” This is because the quote in my opinion means to think before you speak and act because it can greatly effect whatever you are going through in your life. That is how I interpreted Atticus’s quote “You just hold your head high and keep those fists down. No matter what anybody says to you, don’t you let ‘em get your goat. Try fighting with your head for a change.”
ReplyDeleteI can also relate to Atticus Finch’s quote “You just hold your head high and keep those fists down. No matter what anybody says to you, don’t you let ‘em get your goat. Try fighting with your head for a change,” in my real life. One example would be when I was around 10 to eleven years old and had a substitute teacher for my seventh grade math teacher and I ended up being a very big distraction for the class. As you can guess I was left with a bad report and was later sent to the principle’s office. During this time if I was going to get in trouble I would always fight back and talk back but after doing this so many times I became more mature and used my head for once and chose to just not say anything and be given the punishment I deserved. That is how I can relate to Atticus’s quote “You just hold your head high and keep those fists down. No matter what anybody says to you, don’t you let ‘em get your goat. Try fighting with your head for a change.” to my real life experiences.
I love how you explained it and went through with everything even the flow. It was just a great example.
DeleteGreat quote response Michael ! I love your life experience you wrote. 😊 great job. ' nice wording ! It was pretty funny too ! 😂 I totally agree too !

ReplyDeleteI think this quote means that.. Keep your head up don't let anybody have your chin down because of something that was said or done towards you.. Instead of fighting them.. Because that's not the answer.. A better way to solve your problem... Is to just ignore it and give the person less attention as possible and try outsmarting them with your mind.. ' bhy being the bigger person.. And to me personally I think this quote means that... As soon as some drama comes up instead of seeking fighting as the answer.. Yo should try killing with kindness but staying happy and positive and to pay no mind to negative people.. Fighting solves nothing.. It just causes more problems..for you in the end.. I remember a time in my life.. Before I had heard about this quote. I used to think fighting was the answer.. And so that's how I figured I'd solve all of my problems. Now today hears later.. I finally see that not feeding into stuff has actually caused me to have the better outcome and a whole different perspective on life. 😊👌👍💯
ReplyDeleteThe quote,“ You just hold your head high and keep those fists down. No matter what anybody says to you, don’t you let 'em get your goat. Try fighting with your head for a change,” is a really great quote. I think this quotes means that you shouldn’t fight physically its a bad influence. You need to keep your head high instead of fighting the people that get to you. It is bad for you to get into a fight when you can think about what you’re about to do in your head and then not do it. I used my head a lot I rather think about what I’m going to do before I do it because I do not want to get into trouble for doing something stupid. If i think about it in my head before I do it I could save a lot of trouble and time that I could be doing something else rather than getting in a fight that isn’t going to help me get something achieved. I have fought someone before and there is no reason to fight because it is a complete waste of time because I got in trouble I didn’t get anything good in return. I think it is best for you to keep it all in your head or at least don’t fight and talk about it later. This quote that Atticus Finch said helped scout learn not to physically fight with people because it would hurt them and it would get her in trouble. Now she thinks about it in her head because she remembers what Atticus Finch tells her. Therefore, I think the quote,“ You just hold your head high and keep those fists down. No matter what anybody says to you, don’t you let ‘em get your goat. Try fighting with your head for a change,” is a great and inspiring quote because it has helped scout and me through tough times that we wanted to fight but instead we kept in in our heads instead of fighting.

ReplyDeleteWhat I think this quote mean is that not every fight has to be done with your fist why not use your head for once. Fighting doesn’t always solve the situation, fighting can actually make the problem worse. Why not just ignore and walk away. Who cares what people say about you. They’re just talking about you because their jealous of you. If someone is talking about you it probably means that they care enough for you to talk about you. Fighting with your fist never answers the problem. What it means to me personally is those people you should just get out of your lives, because their obviously going to keep you down. If it bothered you so much why not walk away from it and ignore it. There is no reason to even keep them in your lives if you feel like they talk about and they always make fun of you. If you use your head you would’ve walked away from the situation and not worry about that person. Why solve a problem with your fist when you can solve it with your words. To me ill probably not do that but it’s the better thing to do instead of hitting someone and getting in trouble. Sorry didn’t know to say I ran out of ideas. Lol.
“you just hold your head up high and keep those fists down. No matter what anybody says to you, don’t Let them get your goat Try fighting with your head for once.” This quote was once said by the wise Atticus finch. This quote means that sometimes you have to use your words to fight not your hands. If you sit back a minute and think before you react maybe your point would come across more meaningful. Your actions can only go so far, but your words will stick with them. Words could be just as powerful as your actions. Some things could be settled quicker if you think and then speak instead of violence as your first reaction. Once you fight that’s how they will remember you as, as the fighter. Instead they could remember you as the person who thought about their words wisely and handled their argument responsibly. You cannot let them get to you with their words either because they most likely didn't think before they spoke. This quote can relate to many things in people’s lives. Personally I can relate this to a couple different things that have happened in my life.
ReplyDelete“You just hold your head high and keep those fists down. No matter what anybody says to you, don’t you let ‘em get your goat. Try fighting with your head for a change.” Once said by a character Atticus finch in "to kill a mockingbird." I think this quote means don't let things people say to you affect or make you mad or sad. Don't fight over words, because it's not worth it. It means to me that don't fight with actions over stupid words, fight fire with fire. I relate to this because my dad tells me to not use actions even whatever they say. I usually don't but thats how I relate to that quote. That's what the wonderful quote ms bocchino posted this week means to me and how it relates to me. “You just hold your head high and keep those fists down. No matter what anybody says to you, don’t you let ‘em get your goat. Try fighting with your head for a change." Once said by a character in " to kill a mocking bird", Atticus Finch.
