    1. I agree with you Jacob. All people should be treated equal no matter the color of the person. There are people who are mean and antagonize people for the color of there skin. Good job Jacob.

  2. The quote this week can mean many things, and have many different translations. What I think this means is we aren't all the same but, we are still humans. By saying diversity makes a great act we are all still equal. Including people of different races in the mix of what this quote can mean. I think it means no matter how we act or the way we look makes us unequal in the world. Yes nobody is exactly the same, but that is the way the world was made. No two people are exactly alike because if everyone was that would make a great tapestry. It would be the same color, or pattern. Nobody wants a plain boring tapestry hanging on the wall. Which it is including different color, sizes, and looks! Books we’ve read this year can almost always relate to this quote. For example in “To Kill A Mockingbird”, the dad thinks everyone is equal and although the others don't he still sees it. The act on the outside makes a great tapestry because you see all these different strings and colors, but they all start from something an are the same. Thats like people we are all different but we are all still human beings. That make a great act to see, and look at.

  3. I think the quote "We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what there color" means that all humans are equal no matter the color of there skin or there religion or race. The quote also means people should not be looked down upon because of the color of there skin they were born with. It also means just because someone has a different skin color does not mean there more or less important then any other person. This quote could also mean that the color of your skin should not chose on how hard it is to get a job or be able to go to a university or public school. It also means that the color of your skin should not be a factor on what grades or pay you get. The only thing that should be able to affect that is how hard you work to achieve does grades or pay. The quote also means to not let the color of your skin discourage you and you should be proud of the color of your skin because it makes you what is different from everyone else. Your skin color also makes you who you are and usually can signify where your culture and heritage is from which makes different skin colors even more unique. For example if your more light skin or white your probably from Northern Europe. If you have more of a dark skin you could be from either most parts of Africa and you could be Native American. If your Hispanic your heritage is probably from Spain and if your Asian your heritage probably come from Asia. These different skin colors is what make the human race extremely unique and that color of your skin should not matter in anyway on how well you do in the world. For a more condensed summary of what this quote is saying at least in my opinion is it is trying to get across that we all have different skin tones and that what makes us humans unique because were full of diversity and we should treat everyone as equal even if our skin color is different then someone else because the colors don't define who you really are. Only you define who you really are. I can relate this quote to current events because of the way people are still treated in the south. Some people still can not go to public schools because of there skin color. Which is very sad in my opinion. it's sad that the government doesn't do anything to stop the segregation of colors.

  4. "We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what there color." This quote means many things. One thing this quote means is that we should all be equal and it doesnt matter what we look like and what religion we are. Some people think that they are higher up because they are a different color than others.

  5. “We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry and we must understand that all the treads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color.” This quote by Maya Angelou, is one of many analogies that she makes in discussing racial equality. We all probably know that a tapestry is a woven piece of art. Many different threads are woven together to make on beautiful picture. When looking at aa tapestry it is the whole of it that looks beautiful, and not one specific color, as it takes all of the colors to make the piece beautiful or to tell the story. Ms. Angelou is comparing this art work to our society. When looking at us from a distance we all have something to add to the result, and no one person or color is more important than the next. Imagine if a tapestry was only made from one color thread. There would be no richness, no picture, no story to tell. It really would no longer be a tapestry, but only a rug at best. If we were only a people of one color, type, religion, etc., there would be no richness or beauty, and nothing to celebrate in each other- only a bland human ‘rug”. To Kill a Mockingbird’ character Atticus saw the tapestry and the importance of equality in his town and tried to teach his children about this through his example. His children labeled the character of Mrs. Dubose as a mean old lady. But Atticus encaged them to spend time with her and thought her to be very brave in fighting her drug addiction. Atticus also chooses to defend Tom Robison as he knows him to be a kind man of good character and does not want him to face all of the prejudice alone. I think Atticus Finch sees his town as a rich tapestry instead of placing labels on people to make them seem less than human. The quote also reminds me of the “Love has No Labels” video where people view only x rays of people kissing, dancing, holding hands and hugging. However as people step out from behind the x-ras they reveal as same sex couples, interracial couples, along with many other combinations and ethnicities. This is the same message as Ms Angelou’s, but reduces us all to our skeletal forms. As a young man of color, in a varied family “tapestry.” I live this quote and message on a daily basis. The people I love and that love me are of varied races, etc, yet this does make my family rich and complex. However, with months of protests and events involving police and young back males, I cannot help but feel wary and aware that we have some work to do as a society before we can all appreciate the beauty of our own tapestry.

    1. Excellent job Jamie! You're explanation was really amazing, I completely agree with everything you had to say espically including the part where you added in about the story that we read 'To Kill A Mocking Bird' and how Atticus did encourage the kids to spend time with mrs. Dubose for helping her and also how Atticus fought for Tom Robinson's rights. Great job Jamie.

  6. This picture shows us that no matter what you dong have to fit in and it is our differences that separate us and make us unique if I could describe A good quote this would be it. During the Holocaust the jews were being persecuted Because they had been different same as when the African Americans were being bullied and harassed because of their skin color. This also shows that people that are all different make this up. It shows it because in the color of the pictures and how they all blend in and are all equally different and all of us make up a quote which means all of our differences make up a big old fashion painting that society is. One example is that there is no one like me and no one will ever be like me no matter what.

  7. Good point Carlos! You are right that all of our colors and experience are different and no two of us are the same. I also like the point that over time, different groups are singled out for particularly horrible treatment. I also just read that even among the same race there is racism. For example, African Americans can pick on each other for being too light or too dark. As for me, I enjoy a tapestry with many colors and I’ll think of your blog and be glad I am me.

  8. This quote was very powerful. I probably read it over and over because it is so touvhing. I think it means that not everyone is the same by skin color but we should all be tweet the same. This topic has been around for years, actually hundreds of years. The segregation of black and whites has been such a big deal for the past like 80 years, maybe more. Back then blacks werwnt aloud to ever talk or socialixe to white people. It makes me sick to my stomache. In class when we learn about it i get very emotional to read about the seperation and how unfair the blacks had it. The had different schools, water fountains, bbathrooms, resturaunts, stores, jobs and so many more. How sad? Now a days it definately fot way much better but still there are racist people that are out ther that still see black people like that. Its honestly so sad. I am bestfriends with black people and i couldnt honestly ask for bwetter people in my life. And evertine i see quotes and movies and books about segregation i get so sad. So that quote had really made me think about how it still goes around today. Like thw question said above about the current deversity today. It really amazes me now. It just hit me. This needs to stop. Everyone should be treated the same way. I think no one should get treated differently because of their race.

  9. This picture has a very powerful quote. In my eyes, I think it means that although we're all different in appearance, we're all still human. Some of us may be of different ethnicities, sexualities and religions but to treat each other based on those things isn't right. Our differences are things to celebrate about ourselves, not discriminate them. Everyone is different but those things make us who we are, not how people should judge us. Everyone is their own person and we should be happy that we're not all the same because if we were, the world would be a very boring place to live in. That's what I think this picture means.

  10. I think the quote "We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what there color" means that maybe were not the same but that doesn't matter. Sometimes we get judged on who we are but that's not right. If we were all the same what's the point of that? There is no point to it at all. So the next time you go around saying something about someone just remember someone's saying something about you too. Maybe Im different then you. So what? Im proud of who I am and no one will ever get me to doubt myself. Its what you think about yourself that matters. Some kids go threw a lot.... Family stuff, Having trouble in school, Maybe someone they are close with just recently died. You don't know so don't judge before you get to know someone's story. And for the people out there that think that there not good enough or that you don't matter. The people making you feel like that will get what's coming to them so don't worry. You don't have to feel alone. There are a lot of kids that feel like this and they shouldn't. You know why, Because they do matter.

  11. I feel this quote means that everyone should be treated equal to one another no matter how different they are from you. I believe that this quote means diversity and equality should always go hand in hand. To me this quote means to never treat someone else in a way that you don't want to be treated. This quote means you should follow the golden rule, Treat people the way you want to be treated. I believe this is what Martin Luther King Jr. wanted for the world, I think he wanted the world to live by this quote and always keep it in your thoughts when consorting with others. This quote, "We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what there color" means a lot to me, and has a lot of different ways to say accept people for who they are and learn about their diversity and differences from yourself. The world would be a better place of everyone didn't discriminate.

I personally find this quote to be very inspiring and optimistic. I like to live my similar morals and ethics. I am straight and over the past few years I have been exposed to many others with differences in sexuality. At first I didn't like or understand it, but I thought about how they treat me and how I want to be treated. I now accept and love many people who are different from myself.

  12. This picture means a lot. it has true meaning to so many people. it is inspiring to me and probably others. but what I find that what this quote means is that we are humans all of us have our differences and out similarity's. but just because we have different dislikes and likes dosnent mean we have to be labled because of something we like or don't like. its our life not no body elses we have the abilty to make out choices and the choices we make were from us we don't need no body else to make decions on ourselfes. we have to. And I guarantee that many people were made fun of just because what we like. but that honestly dosent make sense. this also goes by skin color too. its not our own ault we picked the color we wanted to be. but just because were a different color dosent mean were all bad. its just a color. you should be happy on what you have, theres other people who want the same. so be thankful. because one day you will regret the chance you had to becoming the next person they look at for a role model. we should be treated equal. I can relate this to kill a mockingbird. the reason being is that back then everyone black person was made fun of. or beaten UP, BUT FOR WHAT. IT WAS JUST BECUASE OF THE SKIN COLOR.EVERY BLACK HAD TO USE DIFFERENT FOUTAINS BATHROOMS, just because the whites thought they should have the right to use the same thing they use. tye thought they could do something bad,but they just had so much hate for nothing but there skin color. like how dumb does that sound. and yes it is still dumb because it still goes on today. and it will still keep going on the rest of the time because that's how the generation has came uop to. maybe one day it will stop, but it will defiantly take some tine for that era to com. but till then we will wait and try to h=change little by time. but one day.

  13. How I feel about Maya Angelou’s quote “We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color.” means to me is that we are all different, yet should be treated equal. What I think she means by this is that she is using the word tapestry as a metaphor to say that everything is woven into one whole centerpiece that as in saying that since everything should be tied in to one whole picture which means all the little things add up into one picture causing a whole final picture that is elaborate and meaningful and is one that everyone becomes a part of each other. I believe Maya Angelou’s quote’s are words that are strong and powerful and words to live by. As on this Earth we have such human diversity. Many different types of cultures and nationalities. Maya Angelou is known to be one of the greatest humanitarian’s of her time. She was strong with Civil Rights movement acts, and to have people be treated equal. Even when times were tough during the Civil Rights movement. All the diverse people were like her quote, “We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color.” As in that people that united and fought for Civil Rights as during the time people were not treated equally and the threads were not intertwined. She is known as a great poet and her words were strong and gave people strength in her time and a she was a very great humanitarian and a Role Model to many for the movement to up hold and fight for their rights.
I can relate to this quote by thinking back to a time when these people made fun of some of my friends because they weren’t as good as them at a sport. But it was unfair to them because they deserved to be treated just as equal as the other guys were treated. Because everyone deserves to be allowed to be treated nicely too.
It also relates to some other stories that we read for example one of them being Harrison Bergeron, there was this great guy who was very tall and smart and handsome, and he was even very athletic. But what the government did because they didn’t like him being this way cause they wanted him to blend in and be equal to everyone else in there society, was that the government put handicaps on him so he couldn’t excel past what he was capable of doing in there society.

  14. What I believe this quote means is that all people should be accepting of all other peoples differences whether it be race, religion, sexual orientation, ect it should not matter to anybody they should be accepting of it and if they cant they should just tolerate it enough to keep their mouths shut and not make people feel bad about themselves
