“There may be times when we are powerless to prevent
injustice, but there must never be a time when we fail to protest.” -Elie
Wiesel
*What do you think this quote means? What does it mean to
you personally?
*Give an example from your own life when you have seen
yourself or someone else experience this.
I belive this quote means that sometimes in life there are problems goingn on that we want to stop. Sometimes these probelms are too strong to stop and out of our reach or has become to big of problem to stop itself, even if its a crime and needs to be brought to justice sometimes its just too much for your hands to handle at once. But even if you cant cant stop it you cant atleast fight against it in other ways, you could go to the police and report it instead of be a bystander and not do anything about the crime, its better to take some action to stop somethjng or no one will ever care and help you or you just wont be able to stop it itself. Personally i have no expeirance with this but i believe that if you do your part and try to do as much as you can i believe thats a million times better than just standing by and not doing anything. Thats what i think the lady meant by this quote.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with what you are saying. Some problems are too big to stop but we shouldn't just stand by and watch it happen. We should take some action against it so it doesn't continue.
DeleteI agree with your response. Your opinion on what the quote means definitely makes sense and goes with you whole response. I also enjoyed the part when you said that people can fight against it in other ways. Anyways, good response and keep up the good work!
DeleteThere may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time when we fail to protest.” -Elie Wiesel. This quote to me means that you may not be able to prevent injustice but you should always stand up to up it no matter what. Like, if you see anyone, any group of people being treated badly because they are different, not to stand by and let them be discriminated against and then it eventually getting worse. This quote also says that you should never turn your back on something that is wrong and that you should always speak out against injustice even though it sometimes can't be prevented.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your response people should never turn their back on things after the first time they fail. Because they don't think that they can get back up but truth is when there is a will there is a way. Everything happens for a reason and there is always a way to figure out things you just have the right attitude towards things.
Delete“There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time when we fail to protest.” Once said by Elie Wiesel. This quote could have so many different meanings. What I think Elie Wiesel means when she says this is that sometimes when something happens we can’t stop it that we don’t really have the power to. But if we try and stop it we can’t fail. When we stop protesting and give up on something because we feel that we are powerless then that’s when we really fail. Even if you can’t stop whatever it is continuing to fight and protest will make it better. If just stand back and watch something we know is wrong happen we are just like everyone else. But if you stand up and keep protesting even if you can’t stop them because they have more power, doesn’t mean it was a failed attempt. People will start hearing what you are doing and then want to know what’s going on. That means more people will hear your reasoning and yea some people might be scared to join you or not agree with you, but some people will agree with you and when you start gaining more followers of what you believe in, that’s when you will become more powerful. And you become a threat to whatever it is you are fighting. This can never even become close to achieving if you give up because you feel you are powerless against something or someone. I know a girl who use to get bullied all the time. Her name was Kate. Kate felt powerless against a group of mean girls who always picked on everything she did. The moment she walked through the school doors she was ridiculed. There was about 6 girls who did this to her. They were all popular girls, so once other kids saw it was cool to pick on Kate more kids stared joining in. Everyone was so mean to her just to seem cool. Finally Kate realized the only way to stop the name calling and bullying was to start fighting back. First she started fighting back by calling the mean girls things back and spreading rumors about them. But she didn’t want to become just like them, so she asked for help. She went to her parents and some of the teachers at school. They helped Kate and now no one bothers her in a mean way. Kate felt powerless but now she fells safe.
ReplyDeleteNice blog and i like the example that you had in your blog referring to kate, good job
DeleteThis was a great blog! I really liked all of the examples you listed and the part about your real life! Keep up the good work!
DeleteA wise person, named Elie Wiesel, once said, “There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time when we fail to protest.” This could mean many different things to many different people. What I think it means is there me times where we aren’t strong to stop something, but that doesn’t mean we can’t attempt or try to stop it. This quote reminds me of segregation back in the 1930s to the 1960s. The blacks didn’t stop protesting against racism and segregation. They fought for their freedom, even though it took them quote a few decades to finally gain their freedom. There were many historical events leading up to the end of segregation, such as the Rosa Parks Bus Incident. Parks would not give up her seat when she was told to by a white person. She refused until the cops came and arrested her. This was when the rise of the protest began to start for the blacks. It went on for about 15 years when they were finally freed from segregation. What this quote means to me personally is that everyone has the right to protest, even if they aren’t strong enough to fight against society and the government. You can go on strike against your boss for not treating you respectfully, even if your companions don’t agree with you. That is called freedom of speech, the first amendment of the constitution. Start using it to your advantage. It is there for a reason.
ReplyDeleteIf I could relate this to my life, I would relate it to when my mom was at work. She is a substitute lunch lady. She was doing what her boss told her to do and then some lady started to boss her around, even though she wasn’t in charge of her. The lady was harassing her and my she stood up for herself. She told her that she wasn’t in charge and that she was doing what her boss told her to do. She then later told her boss about her and her boss told her that the lady had already gotten a few complaints from people already. So eventually they were going to something about it, somewhat fire her. This relates to the quote because my mother and others protested about the lady to her boss which eventually got rid of the whole problem.
Yes I agree with your statement. I agree with you statement because I know exactly what you mean. I know how you feel on this topic. I agree when you said the blacks didn't stop protesting and when they fought for freedom. That was a good topic to write about.
Delete“There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time when we fail to protest.” said Elie Wiesel. Basically what Elie is trying to say is that if you fail it doesn't hurt to fight for what you believe or get back up and try again. When we stop fighting and give up on something because we are too weak then that’s when we really fail. Whatever it is continue to fight even if its hard and protesting will make it better. Sitting around and doing nothing will not solve anything you need to get up and try to fight even though you were knocked down you can always get up and try again. Nothing is ever impossible, everything happens for a reason and so there is always a solution. You just have to have the strength and the will power to do and accomplish the thing that is hard.
ReplyDeleteIf i could relate this to my life i wold relate this to my school life. Its very hard for me to get the perfect grades or be the perfect person. But it doesnt mean i stop trying and give up cause nothing good ever comes out of that. So now I work harder at where i struggle and i am actually doing much better cause before I was getting very frustrated with everything and was gonna give up. But now when i fall I get right back up because i work to get myself up back to the top again. So in the end nothing ever comes without giving things effort and will power. You can do anything just put your heart and soul into things.
"There may be a time when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time when we fail to protest." This quote was said by Elie Wiesel. What I think this quote means is even though you cant prevent something from happening doesn't mean you should try and speak out about. For example a man is about to be executed you can speak out against execution but that wont stop them. But if enough people speak eventually it will be ruled out. Sitting around and doing nothing will solve absaloutly nothing. No matter what you must fight for what you believe in. Nothing is ever unattainable as long as you put your mind and soul into it.
ReplyDeleteIf I could relate this to my life I would relate it to when I was younger and I would want to go on rides in six flags but my parents would want to just go walk around the park . Eventually after enough beginning we would go on the big roller coasters. If you do not speak out against injustices you will never get to do anything your want or get anything go your way. This is why I believe this quote relates to my life.
I agree with you're comment very much. If you can't prevent something from happening you should definitely try. Even if it doesn't work out at first. Im sure you will find people who also agree with you and are willing to help.
DeleteI agree Justin, it's important to stand up for those who can't. More people will join in when they realize all the good that is happening because of it.

ReplyDeleteA wise professor named Elie Wiesel once said “There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time when we fail to protest.” I feel like this quote could mean many things and relate to many scenarios. I think that it means that even when we know we aren’t going to be able to change anything in something that we feel isn’t fair, we shouldn’t just sit around and watch it happen. We have to at least try. A lot of times in life, the rules of society around us may have a sense of power over us. Many people may judge you for even doing one simple thing wrong. There are still people in this world who are racist and might discriminate someone because of their skin color for something like a job opening. The quote "There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time when we fail to protest" can relate to many situations in history. One point in history that this quote can relate to was when Rosa Parks stood up for herself on the bus. The driver told that she had to give up her seat for a white man, but she refused. She felt that what was going on was unfair and unjust so she protested it. She knew very well that the bus driver was going to call the cops on her and that she was probably going to get arrested but that didn’t stop her. That incredible act that she did helped the civil rights movement tremendously and now she is remembered for what she did. Another topic that the quote “There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time when we fail to protest” can relate to serious issue that has been facing us for a long time which is bullying. A lot of times when a person sees someone being bullied, they walk away so they don’t have to get involved. That is probably the reason why we still face this problem today. Everyday, many kids around the world will purposely miss school because they are afraid they are going to be made fun of, or shoved against a locker. Maybe if all the bystanders realized that what was happening was wrong, they would stand up against bullying. I hope that the quote from this week will help people realize that they have the power to stand up for what they believe in.
ReplyDeleteOne day an extraordinarily intelligent, and very brave soul has once stated, “There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time when we fail to protest.” That man was Holocaust survivor, and award winning author for his book "Night" Elie Wiesel. I think that his quote means that you must always stand up for what you believe is right. Even at times where you feel small and powerless, and aginst the odds. The point is you must try. Many people knew that what was happening to the Jews during the Holocaust, but nobody did anything about it. They pretended that they knew nothing and that everything was okay. As long as it didn't happen to them or their own family and friends. Not to mention they were probably scared out of their minds to open their mouths and I wouldn't even blame them. Those Nazis were scary. I think that they should have taken a stand or some peaceful protests like Mahatma Gandhi, or even if they had to some more violent protests like Nelson Mandela. With enough people and the help of other countries the Holocaust would have probably ended earlier.
ReplyDeleteThis quote relates to me for one specific reason. That reason is that I will always stick to what I believe in. I believe in respecting my friends and family. I also believe in finishing what I start. I have never mouthed off a family member other than my parents (which happens rarely). I am kind to my friends and would never turn my back on them. I might not hand in my work in on time all the time but I refuse to unless it's finished and done correctly. Even if sometimes it takes a little longer than other students. During any projects I try to get as much done as fast and efficiently as I can, but it has to be correctly done. So in conclusion you should always stick to what you believe in.
Elie Wiesel’s quote “There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time when we fail to protest,” means a lot for me for a couple of reasons. The first reason is because in my opinion we should all live by this quote. I say this because there is way too much racism happening in the world that we sometimes can’t protect. For example we all sometimes cannot protect other races from stereotypes and discrimination however we can stand up and protest it and bring awareness to it to one day maybe ending that act of racism. My second reason is that this means that we should stand up for an injustice that we experience someone else go thru. For example at school we see bullying happen all the time and we never do something, but if we did stand up before it got out of hand we could potentially save a persons life. Just like the example we read in class about other students picking on a kid who was gay and this would go on in till the one kid threaten to bring a gun and shoot him which in y opinion should of never gotten that out of control. That is what I think this quote means to me.
ReplyDeleteI also experienced Elie Wiesel’s quote “There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time when we fail to protest,” many times in my live before. One example would be all the media around officers killing African Americans which I think will sadly never end. I say this because it is an interesting debate because the officer isn’t always at blame however the African American isn’t ether sometimes and this cause peaceful and violent protest all around the world. However since this is such an outgoing debate I believe that this will never end sadly. Another example I personally experience was when I was in middle school and someone I knew was getting picked on and I somewhat let it slide before it started to get more and more serious. Of course I was still wrong because I did let it slide but I informed the teach about the insistent and the kid and the bully are actually good friends as far as I can tell now. That is how I experienced Elie’s quote.
