  1. To me, this quote exemplifies the showing of racism. Racism is the judging between different races of humans siding with one being higher in rank than the other. Each piece of the tapestry shows an example of a different race, and together they make up one world or one tapestry. A tapestry is piece of fabric with pictures or designs formed by different colored fabrics and threads. The more patterns on a tapestry, usually the better looking and more decorative it seems. Personally, I believe that racism still exist today, but not as bad as it was decades ago. Long ago, different races were in different schools, used different bathrooms, water fountains, etc. Diversity of races in my opinion creates a better society and a safer world to interact in. I couldn't imagine living without half of the tapestry or only one race in our school district. The rich tapestry shows that everyone is equal and that you can become something if you want to. Although you may have to work to be a thick thread, you can work even harder to be apart of the rich tapestry.
Current events that remind me of the rich tapestry and the diversity of it is the riot going on in Baltimore. Gangs have been started because colored people believe that cops are killing too many of them. Due to that, people are blowing their city up into flames. People aren't comprehending that it's their own town and lifestyle that they're throwing away. For example, it shows a tapestry without any of the threads. Baltimore will never be the same with all of the killings going on and everyone dying, but imagine the tapestry without specific pieces. As another example, the book "To Kill A Mockingbird." In the story, Atticus was judged upon his case because he was siding with Tom Robinson. Tom Robinson was white, but the diversity of the two races is what unfortunately pleaded them guilty. Mayella shouldn't have won the case, but she came out to be the rich tapestry. Sadly, Atticus stood out to be the weak thread that didn't make it very far, but in people's minds, he has respect from others that was better than any tapestry. We should understand the concept that no matter what color you are, you're always as good as the person next to you. What you do with your life is your decision, but you can always end up to be the rich tapestry if you try to be.

  2. This quote means that the world is made up of many different people. It works together to make up society and life on earth. All these people are different colors and religions but all have a part in this world for making it better. The threads making that tapestry are the different people, and when all the people are together and work with eachother then thats the finished product, the tapestry. Some people believe though thats some "threads" are not good enough and should not be in the tapestry but without them then the tapestry wouldnt be accomplished because wed have missing links. Everyone has a roll from filthy rich higher class business owners to bums that live on the side of the road collecting change. we all have a roll and when we all do what were suppost to do and think of eachother as equal and dont discriminate that the tapestry will be complete. A perfect example is the holocaust (as this quote is set up to represent) it shows that everyone was against the jews and they tried to kill them all but without the jews then the world wouldnt be complete because they have a roll, and without them the "tapestry" wont be complete.

    1. I agree with your response. I liked that you said the quote meant that the world is made of different people. That was exactly what I was thinking. I also enjoyed that you bright up religion into your response. Keep up the good work!

  3. I wise woman, named Maya Angelou, once said, “We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color.” This quote could mean many different things to many different people. What I think this quote means is everyone is equal. Everyone is equal no matter what class, race, nationality, or religion. When you’re comparing someone wealthy and poor, don’t always assume that the wealthy one is the stronger and more powerful one. The poor person could have the same and equal strength and power as the wealthy person. They just don’t know how to express it. That is what I think this quote means. What this quote means to me personally is that everyone should be treating each other equally. There shouldn’t be racism in the world. There never should have been. Segregation is a big example. The colored could have been treated equally to the whites. People are people. Everyone is unique, but that doesn’t mean they need to be treated differently. That is what the quote means to me personally.
If I could relate this quote to current events, I would relate to all of the bad policing incidents that have been going on. For example, the Michael Brown case. Everyone says that this is an example of racism. I agree with what everyone is saying. The officers have some mind of racism when it comes to these cases. They always end up “accidentally” killing the suspects when they really aren’t trying to. I honestly think they are doing it on purpose. Otherwise there wouldn’t any thought about racism because all of these cases are about white officers killing black suspects. That is what I call racism, and racism goes with Maya Angelou’s quote. This quote does go with stories that we have read. The novel “To Kill a Mockingbird” is an excellent example. This story is another example of racism. It takes place during the Great Depression in the 1930s, right where segregation started to begin. A man named Tom Robinson was being accused of rape when he did not actually rape anyone. He was proven that he was innocent, but was still put guilty only because he was colored and no one trusted the colored people. They thought the colored were different and they deserve to be treated unequally.

    2. I strongly agree with your opinion. The world has been corrupted so much over the years. Racism a big part of it. But in all honesty everyone is equal everyone has a job in this world they just have to find they're calling. But in the end no one should be treated differently.

  4. Maya Angelou, once said, “We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color.” The first thing that comes to my mind is segregation and racism. but the colors could mean anything. It could either be an example of religion, social groups or classes or skin color. These are just the few of many parts of the world and how its portrayed. For years this has been going on. But the part of this quote is telling everyone that no matter what your age, size, color, religion we are all beautiful in our own way, equal. We are all humans and we all take a part in this world because we stand up for who we are and what we are. You don't need money friends or family to take part in this world we were all created for the same reason and created under one genetic code. We can relate this to a book that we read called "to kill a mocking bird." The harsh events portrayed in this book are phenomenal. Like the case of boo radley everyone thought he was a bad person. that he was a "monster". But truth is they just thought of him from the first look they took. They didn't take time to understand him and notice that he is a really nice guy with a problem. Now this brings us to the quote never judge a book by its cover. In the end everyone is portrayed differently when everyone is actually equal some just don't realize.

    1. I totally agree with what you are saying. That no matter what we look like everyone is beautiful in their own way. And we should all be treated the same be because we are all the same one the inside.

  5. “We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the treads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color.” once said by Maya Angolou. I think this quote means a tapestry nee different colors to be beautiful just like the people on earth. That every thread is need no matter what the color is. For example if you tapestry was going to be a flower, you can not just put the color pink for the peddles, you still need gran for the stem and yellow for the middle part. Just like people. No matter what are color on the outside is we are needed. And no one should be put down about the color of their skin. Just because someone doesn’t look the same as you doesn’t mean they ae any less then you. On the inside we are all the same. Are bodies all run the same way. Threads are all made the same way. They all feel, smell, and look the same the only difference is the color of the thread. Just like humans everyone is needed and no one is less important than anyone. Plus if we all looked the same earth would look like a one colored tapestry, boring. But its not just color. No one should be treated differently. It doesn’t matter if they are a different color or believe in a different religion or dress differently cause none of us look, talk, think, dress, etc the same way but we all are equal.
This quote relates to basically everywhere on planet earth. In all countries there are racist human beings. Who won’t let colored people into there store because they aren’t the same. And kids in school bully each other because they look or dress a certain way. Some times it even gets violent and people get into fights over stuff reasons like that or even will kill a human over it. And all it is, is stupid thought that pop into some peoples heads that because that person isn’t the same as me, that I’m better. But its not true. This is just like a story I read in English called, To Kill a Mockingbird. A man gets put on trial from some crime he didn’t commit but every thinks he is guilty because he’s black. And in the end the man is killed because other people thought he would be found innocent in a different court.

  6. The inspiring quote "We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color" was once stated by the great Maya Angelou. I think this quote can mean many things. The one that sticks out is that no matter what race you are we are all equal. There is no higher status. In the end we all go home to our families and love them. Presently we all can get any job. Just as long as we work hard enough. I mean like look at Barrack Obama. He is the first African American president. Every person has equal rights. Weather they are black, white, hispanic, asian, etc. Every one votes, and can get any job.
This relates to "The Help" and "To Kill A Mockingbird". The quote relates to the Help" because the women were discriminated and everyone hated them. They were practically slaves, but paid with small amounts of money. They were treated as if their color of skin was a disease and had to use different bathrooms. "To Kill a Mockingbird" Tom Robinson was blamed for a crime he never even committed. He was accused of raping a woman. When he went to court Atticus tried his hardest and proved that he was innocent. Sadly because he was black he was found guilty. Then he was murdered, but people said he escaped and they shot him down. Luckily time has progressed since then.

  7. A great woman named Maya Angelou once said “We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color.” This quote has to do with racism. It means that all people are equal no matter where they came from what they look like who they like or what they believe in. Every person is a person and should be treated like it. She says that diversity is a rich tapestry which means that diversity is pretty and that it is good for our society and makes things better. Its like the whole world is one big quilt and all the people make up that quilt so you want a bunch of pretty colors and patterns and stuff so that the quilt can look nice. Theres a lot of racism in our world today but because of quotes like this we are working to get rid of it. A really big step was when Barack Obama became president. but theres still a lot of bad things going on like murders and protests and people killing people just because of who they are. This quote can relate to a lot of things because racism is a really common thing on our planet even though its really sad. The Help is a good book that relates to this quote. Its told from the point of view of black maids in the south and there are a lot of events of racism and abuse that are based on real life events. I think this quote would be really important to teach to little kids because if you teach them early on not to judge others then they will grow up being nice to others no matter what they look like or what they believe in and the world will be a better place in the future. hopefully if people keep trying they can get rid of the racism because its really sad that its really common and that its still a problem even though weve been around for so long. Therefore i think this quote is very good and that Maya Angelou was a very good person because she believed that everybody was equal and she wanted to teach other people that everybody is equal too. I think thats a good thing because if everybody sees each other as equals then there wont be any fighting and there would be a lot less problems in the world.

  8. We should all know that Diversity makes for a rich tapestry and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what color.
What this quote means to me is that everyone should be respected equally no matter what color you are. Just because you are a different color than someone else doesn’t mean that they get treated like crap. Why do people judge other people off there skin color or have the nerves to call a black person a slave or something else? It’s probably because they think that they’re a different person and doesn’t think what words can do to them. They’re to busy thinking about all the names that they can call them instead of thinking that it can hurt them. It’s like they have no hearts and they don’t care about other peoples feelings. They just think that “oh I can judge other people because I got made fun of” if you got made fun of and it hurt you why will you go do it to someone else when it’s clearly gonna hurt them as bad as it hurt you. There is absolutely zero tolerance to put someone through pain because you wanted to make fun of them. This has happen to me I’ve been made fun of before when I was fat, but it didn’t affect me because I was raise to not care what people say. Sometimes people do go over board and say some messed up things, but if you just ignore them you don’t have to worry about that person. You should be sorry that they have the nerves to say something to you, and tried to put you down. Be happy that they have something to say to you because that means they're thinking about you or are jealous of you. People do pathetic things to put people down just to feel better about themselves. That is not the type of person anyone should aspire to be.

  9. “We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the treads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color.” once said by Maya Angolou. I think this quote means that everyone is created equally. Racism is very high these day. This also means that different races coming together makes good babies. Interracial babies are the cutest. I really do not understand racism. We are all African American because we all came from Africa so our ancestors are African American. Racism in 2015 still occurs witch is terrible. No one should have to go threw that. That's why todays society is messed up in many ways. There was once a time where we were all created equal and no one worried about what you whore or what color skin you were. A time I can relate to this is when I was in middle school. Everyone was racist so I felt left out. No one knew what I was going through. I use to cry in the shower so no one would know If I was crying or not. Those were the worst days of my life. Sometimes I wish I was a different race like white because they are not faced with racial slurs.
