  1. Maya Angelou once said “ We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color.” What I think this quote means is that no matter what color someone is, they could do the exact same thing as someone from a different color. For example, if you were making something with the tapestry, it doesn't matter what color you use because in the end it will all turn out the same. Also, if you are making something with the tapestry, if you use more than one color it will look even better than if you just use a single solid one. If many people of different colors try and work together, the end result will probably be better than it just being one type of color. Some current events that can go along with this quote is the events going on in Baltimore. One of the events from this that everyone is talking about is how that mother beat up her son because she found him on the streets and everyone is saying that if any mother found their child like that they would do the same. This shows that many different colored people will come together to do the same thing. Another example on how this quote can relate to current events is also about Baltimore. A little boy went up to police officers and gave them cups of waters while many others were destroying properties. You can’t always judge a person by their color. This is what I think the quote by Maya Angelou means.

  2. The quote “We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are all equal in value no matter what their color.” was said by Maya Angelou. This quote means that life is like a tapestry, and even though all the different parts of the tapestry are different colors, they are all equal. Just like life, everyone is different but equal. People may say that thats not true but it is. Even if someone is a different color, religion anything, we are all the same inside and out. Personally to me this quote tells me that everyone has the same status. That no one should feel different or feel bad about themselves, because people have to remember that equality is a thing. Its a thing thats true and gives us all the same rights and opportunities. In current life people get upset or put down about not looking or being someone else. Or some people think that they don't have the same chances as another. But you shouldn't get upset or let someone get you down or believe that you can't do something that someone else does. Because its all wrong. Everyone is equal. And everyone gets the same chance as the person next to them. In class we have read about the holocaust. And how the whole jewish race almost cleaned out. The Nazis took them away for being who they were and believing in what they believe. But they are apart of the tapestry no matter what. ITs terrible how bad they treated the jewish just because of something so little. In conclusion, Maya Angelou once said “We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are all equal in value no matter what their color.” and that this quote means that everyone in the world is equal and should be treated the same as everyone else.

    1. I agree with carly because everyone is different but everyone is equal. I also agree with her because we should all be treated equally because the world is equal

    2. I agree with carly too because life is like tapestry when there are different colors, they are all still equal to each other. Just like most people you see in this world all look and act different but should be treated equally. Religions are all different and make the people who they are same with their looks and shouldn't be treated differently for that reason. Everyone should get the same chance that any other person would be able to have. It truely was terrible for how the jews were treated for their religion and the nazi's not make an exception for it. To conclude with carly's quote everyone is different in this world and should all be treated equally.

    3. I agree with you because you are right. We are all the same no matter what anyone thinks or says Just because we may look different or act different doesn't mean we aren't just as equal as the next person.

  3. What this quote meant by “We should all know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and lie must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color”, was that it is important for a person to know a little about a lot of things so it can make the person more interesting and make a good conversation. I think to me personally that it would be important to know little things of the many other things that are in the world. Just a heads up I could be completely wrong for what I think this quote could mean so just letting everyone know. This quote can relate to the movie that we watched today called “Escape from Sobibor”. This movie mentions a death camp that was much unknown by most people and it was one of the three that were mentioned during the movie. The people that were in the blue uniforms were jews and they knew ahead of time of the lies that they have been told and the struggle they have been through. The Nazis gave a roll call to make sure that everyone in the camp was here and not hiding or attempting to make an escape, then after that he made an announcement to the jews. The Nazis mentioned to the people how there was a train that was coming to the death camp so they expect them to be smiling at the helping them off the train one by one. As train stopped at the death camp, the jewish people wearing the blue uniforms were helping the other jewish people off the train. While they were coming off, the jewish people were whispering in the peoples’ ears as they were coming of the train. The explanation for this is because they wanted to help them through this camp since they did not know anything about this new camp whatsoever. One of the tips that were mentioned was “If you want to live say to them you like to make a trade”. Another piece of advice that was told was is to say that you have a special job such as a shoe maker or a jewelry maker so that you will not be sent to the death camp. People who didn’t specialize in anything were sent to the gas chambers to be killed and for the people who said they had a job were sent to their own cabins to work on what they specialize in. The people who were at the camp survived longer thanks to the help from the jewish people that were in the blue uniforms. This is my response to what I think of this quote and I hope I decrypted this quote and got the right meaning out of it.

  4. ‘’ We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the treads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color.’’ Maya Angelou I think this quote means that all people are equal. Also all people are equally important. If a thread come loose even if it is green or blue it still will all get weak. When a thread is added no matter what color it is the whole thing will then become stronger. This can relate to the holocaust because Jewish people are killed only for being Jewish. There is nothing wrong with them, they are just different from what some other people might agree with. It is not fair to treat people differently for something they cannot control or even for opinions they can control. Black people cannot change the color of their skin so they had to be slaves and were treated horribly for that. White people cannot change the color of their skin so everybody says you are a white girl if you like Starbucks. Nobody can control what they like and they should not be judged for it. ‘’ We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the treads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color.’’ Maya Angelou. Slaves were made to plant food, pick fruit, grow vegetables and herbs, and cook all of this great food that they never got to taste and enjoy. They had to do all of this work for other people every morning, every afternoon, and every night, yet they got nothing that great in return for their hard work. All they ever got to eat was probably a spoon full of rice and beans at each meal for their whole lives. They had no diversity, not even in their diet. Oppressed people of many races went through a lot of pain and they suffered so other people could enjoy their lives and be happy even though they were all equal. Slaves were treated like dirt and they would never complain about not having something. They were only treated so terribly because they were black, because of something they had no power over. Something they could not change. We should all be proud that we are individuals and we are all different from each other, not make people feel bad about being different. ‘’ We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the treads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color.’’ Maya Angelou.

    1. Molly is right about her quote. She says that she thinks this quote means equality and that that is important. Also she gives a really good example with back then and the slaves. There was no such thing as being equal. She says that we should be proud that we are different and that's a 100% right. And that's why I agree with mollys blog.

  5. This quote this week is very true and it has a very strong meaning to me. What this quote means to me is that everybody in the world is the same kind of mammal and no one is better then any other person in this world. Even if your someone famous we are all equal. This quote reminds what a band i listen to posted on there Facebook page. And i do warn you that it is a little messed up what they said but this how i feel about racist people, "If you're a racist just know that you deserve to get your teeth get kicked down your throat.
It is 2015 grow up" this is referring to the cops killing the black people for no reason. And i know it is really rough and not very appropriate for school but considering that this band is very violent live and they seem like they don't care about racism i think they should have a shout out. The name of the band is called Traitors. And what i think is that this quote is very important to the people in this country that are harming people by there race and that is messed up. Do you guys think it is alright for doing this cruel work of killing someone over there race and the people that kill them don't get in trouble for it because they have a badge? and sorry for anyone that has a cop in there family but this whole thing is getting out of control fast!!! like it is getting to the point that i fell that there is going to be a civil war in America. And I'm not saying every cop is like that but it is only the racist ones that think full of them selves. So please if anyone that is friends or knows a cop I'm not saying there jerks. I hope that there isn't a civil war in America because we already have some much on our plate from economy to terrorist attacks we are not on a good foot. Also this quote is a good way to say what Martin Luther king wanted. But we do need to understand one thing is that there will always be racist people in this country and world. No matter what it is just a weird thing that kids pick up from there role models or parents. Even if they are told that it is wrong they still do it. Even if they are told that it is ILLEGAL they still do it. Only thing that we can do is just pray and watch that the racism thing calms down in the future or they make sure that they don't give racist people guns. And I am very sorry if i did post anything rude or offensive i can understand were you are coming from especially from that quote but that this is the way i feel about this quote you posted and this topic is a very important topic for me.

    1. I fully agree with your blog Mike. Everyone is equal and with everything that is going on, it should be remembered that we are all the same. Even with all the racism, people need to remember that no matter what color we are, we are equal.

  6. "We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the thread of tapestry are equal in value no matter the color." Maya Angelou. What this quote means is that no matter what race, skin color, or sex your are equal no matter what someone else says. What it means to me is that no matter what you are your are just as equal as me. For example black people were discriminated because of your color of your skin now there is little of discrimination in the world than back then. Also the Jews were discriminated by the Nazi because they were Jewish now there is little less discrimination towards Jewish people. In the book the "Night" the Germans made fun of the Jews and made the feel less than what they are. Even back in history the Egyptian discriminated the Jews and keeper them as slaves. In the world to day we should remember that we are all equal no matter the problem. Equally we should engrave this in to out mind so we don't lose see of the equally in each other.

  7. This picture shows us that no matter what you dong have to fit in and it is our differences that separate us and make us unique if I could describe A good quote this would be it. During the Holocaust the jews were being persecuted Because they had been different same as when the African Americans were being bullied and harassed because of their skin color. This also shows that people that are all different make this up. It shows it because in the color of the pictures and how they all blend in and are all equally different and all of us make up a quote which means all of our differences make up a big old fashion painting that society is. One example is that there is no one like me and no one will ever be like me no matter what.

    1. I agree with Jared because the quote does describe everyday life. About the kids who get bullied for their skin color, religion, or ethic background. To me this quote is very powerful. This quote is about being equal and kids and people now and days seem to forget about that.

  8. "We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all thread of tapestry are equal in value no matter the color." Maya Angelou. What I think this quote means is that you can do anything, make money, have a big house, accomplishing dreams, no matter your race, or religion background. Everyone is made different, but everyone is made to be equal. No one and I mean no has the power to control your life because it's yours not theirs. For example if there's a white person who wants to work at a restaurant to become a chef and he got the job. And then like a month later a black person comes up to become a chef, and they said no because of his skin. In reality your just as equal as the person next to you. That person who said no because he was black its not his call. It's not the his fault he's black. That's what I think the quote means. What I think this quote means personally is that I want to be in the NBA when I get over. That's my dream. But many people might say you have a better chance they someone whose Indian. That wouldn't matter because were both equal. What's what it means to me personally. This quote could relate to a current event. Like with ISIS. The reason why they can relate to each other is because they are taking away their rights and controlling their life. This can also relate to the book "Night". That book can relate to this quote because they are discriminating the Jews and taking away their lives by putting them in camps. All those people the Jews and the Nazi's, they were all equal but fear is what got in the way of that.

  9. Maya Angelou once said, “ We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color.” There should be no difference whether something or someone is different from you. People that look different on the outside are still the same as you on the inside. The threads are no different whether they are pink, black, blue, white, or yellow. They are all for the same purposes. To me this means whether you have a different skin color, or different personality, we are all equal. To me personally this means that we are all equal no matter how different we are, we are all just as important as one another. This can relate to current events by people who are racist. they see darker skin color and think that they aren't as important, and they are wrong they are just as important as us. Also if someone is a little different they are considered an outcast or strange. Now a days in our world you have to be perfect to fit in, society doesn't let us be ourselves anymore, everyone has to be the same. I can relate this to story we have read for instance, The Help. This shows that the white people were held to a different standard than the colored people. The colored people weren't treated as equals like they should have been from the start. These people went through hell and back for n reason while we got treated better. They were the ones who got treated poorly because of the way they were born. They are the same as us on the inside so tere should be no difference what so ever.

  10. A wise woman named Maya Angelou once said “We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color.” I believe that this quote could mean lots of things. Personally, I think it means that people need to realize that everyone’s differences are what makes this world unique. If everyone acted the same and looked the same then this world would be really boring. Also, this quote means that everyone has a lot of value and should not be judged on the amount that they have. Everyone deserves to be treated with love no matter their race, religion, or sexuality. No person in this world deserves to receive hate for that kind of stuff. Everyone was made their own way so we need to stop judging each other for the things that we can not change. I think that the quote “We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all of the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color,” can relate to a current event that basically happens every day. It is called racism. The racist acts of segregation were outlawed a pretty long time ago but racist acts still occur today. Everything from denied service at a restaurant, to a huge shooting that causes a street riot or protest. This world’s diversity is what makes us all special in our own way, but some people just don’t understand that. I think the quote “We all should all know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all of the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color” once said by Maya Angelou can relate to many books and movies. One book that it can relate to is a book that we read in class called “To Kill A Mockingbird.” This is because the book has many topics of racism. In the book, a black man named Tom Robinson is accused of raping a white woman. Scout and Jem’s father is defending Tom and everyone else in town is against him for doing it. Since the accused man was black, everyone thinks that he did it when he really didn’t. This week’s quote definitely had a very amazing meaning to it. I hope this quote shows people that everyone deserves to be treated with love and respect no matter what their color.
That is what I think this quote means to me.

  11. There was a very wise woman that once said, “we all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter their color.” The wise woman that stated his was named Maya Angelou. I believe that this quote could possibly mean many different things. It all depends on who you ask. To me, this quote means that we all help keep together and we are all apart of the same cloth (tapestry). We all have the same role in that cloth and is to keep it together and make it bright. We are all equal. Some of us are just a little brighter or darker than the rest. Personally, I think that this quote means that the tapestry is really just talking about us in the world. we all have equal parts in the world. People look at us only as the way that we want them to. We pick the color that we want to represent. Weather you want to be yellow, as in being happy, or black, as in being sad or gloomy. Every single person in the world has the same amount of potential as the next. It is how you want to look at life to see how much you want people to look at you. Either as a success, or a failure. It is all up to you. Also, most people do not look at other people that are not like them, as equals. They think less of them because they are not exactly the same.
I can relate this quote to many events going on now, or recently. For example, what happened in Ferguson. In Ferguson, an unarmed black man was shot by a white police officer. The people in the town looked at it as an action based on racism. The cop was found not guilty. The people started a big riot because of the cop pleading not guilty. They all think that it is based on racism.
This does relate to stories that we have read. For example, “To Kill A Mockingbird”. In this book, a black man named Tom Robinson was accused of raping a white woman. He did not rape her but the white lady’s father wanted to get Tom in jail and thought this would be the easiest way. Toms lawyer, Atticus Finch, did very well trying to prove him innocent, but because Tom was black, he was found guilty. A few guys killed him later in the book because they did not like black people. They were racist, did not like black people This is what this quote means to me.

To me, this quote means that we all help keep together and we are all apart of the same tapestry. We are held together but the way we treat and act towards other people. We are all equal. Some of us are just a little brighter or darker than the rest but just because that doesn't mean that we are not all alike . we are all human , and that can never change no matter how hard we try . I think it is comparing us too the world. People only look at us the way we want them too , well the way we act or percent or self. I think everybody is the same and no one shouldn't have rights. we all need right and we all need tooo be able too live and be happy with out worry about what everybody else is thinking of us . so like all the jewish books and story we have been hearing about . they are like that cause they weren't treated equal . hitler thought him and other people were gonna be so much better. but we all knmow his way of life was messed up . killing people caue they are different is as wrong as hid brian thinking it was normal.

  14. I think the quote "We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what there color" means that all humans are equal no matter the color of there skin or there religion or race. The quote also means people should not be looked down upon because of the color of there skin they were born with. It also means just because someone has a different skin color does not mean there more or less important then any other person. This quote could also mean that the color of your skin should not chose on how hard it is to get a job or be able to go to a university or public school. It also means that the color of your skin should not be a factor on what grades or pay you get. The only thing that should be able to affect that is how hard you work to achieve does grades or pay. The quote also means to not let the color of your skin discourage you and you should be proud of the color of your skin because it makes you what is different from everyone else. Your skin color also makes you who you are and usually can signify where your culture and heritage is from which makes different skin colors even more unique. For example if your more light skin or white your probably from Northern Europe. If you have more of a dark skin you could be from either most parts of Africa and you could be Native American. If your Hispanic your heritage is probably from Spain and if your Asian your heritage probably come from Asia. These different skin colors is what make the human race extremely unique and that color of your skin should not matter in anyway on how well you do in the world. For a more condensed summary of what this quote is saying at least in my opinion is it is trying to get across that we all have different skin tones and that what makes us humans unique because were full of diversity and we should treat everyone as equal even if our skin color is different then someone else because the colors don't define who you really are. Only you define who you really are. I can relate this quote to current events because of the way people are still treated in the south. Some people still can not go to public schools because of there skin color. Which is very sad in my opinion. it's sad that the government doesn't do anything to stop the segregation of colors.

  15. I wise woman, named Maya Angelou, once said, “We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color.” This quote could mean many different things to many different people. What I think this quote means is everyone is equal. Everyone is equal no matter what class, race, nationality, or religion. When you’re comparing someone wealthy and poor, don’t always assume that the wealthy one is the stronger and more powerful one. The poor person could have the same and equal strength and power as the wealthy person. They just don’t know how to express it. That is what I think this quote means. What this quote means to me personally is that everyone should be treating each other equally. There shouldn’t be racism in the world. There never should have been. Segregation is a big example. The colored could have been treated equally to the whites. People are people. Everyone is unique, but that doesn’t mean they need to be treated differently. That is what the quote means to me personally.
If I could relate this quote to current events, I would relate to all of the bad policing incidents that have been going on. For example, the Michael Brown case. Everyone says that this is an example of racism. I agree with what everyone is saying. The officers have some mind of racism when it comes to these cases. They always end up “accidentally” killing the suspects when they really aren’t trying to. I honestly think they are doing it on purpose. Otherwise there wouldn’t any thought about racism because all of these cases are about white officers killing black suspects. That is what I call racism, and racism goes with Maya Angelou’s quote. This quote does go with stories that we have read. The novel “To Kill a Mockingbird” is an excellent example. This story is another example of racism. It takes place during the Great Depression in the 1930s, right where segregation started to begin. A man named Tom Robinson was being accused of rape when he did not actually rape anyone. He was proven that he was innocent, but was still put guilty only because he was colored and no one trusted the colored people. They thought the colored were different and they deserve to be treated unequally.
