  1. "It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are." -e.e Cummings What I think this quote means is that from time instead of being someone's shadow you can be your own person. With that being said your going to have to learn how to leave some people. Weather they're your friends or not. Because you can be hanging out with the wrong crowd that can lead to bad things. You can be with your friends and when they do the wrong thing you can get into trouble just for being there. Once you have the courage to become who you really are, then you won't have to worry about the people telling you what to do. You can be your own person. What I think this quote means to me personally is that no matter what you can't be afraid to do you. You can't be afraid of what you want to become, and that goes for accomplishing dreams and being successful in life. That's what I think this quote means to me. Also to me it means that you also have to stand up for whats right. I think this because if your having with a crowd that does certain things that your not into weather its drugs, bullying, or alcohol. You can still stand up and speak them out of it and speak for what is right. This quote can relate to a show called "Arrow" because the main character is having a hard time defining who he is. And everyone is saying that only you can know who you really are. So during the season finale, his teacher is training him to become the next ra's. And his teacher is trying to brain wash him so he can forget everyone he cares about. While his teacher brainwash him, he starts to call him a new name. So the main character sabotage the plane and said who he really is. He took the courage and became who he really is. That's how this quote relates to the show.

    1. I agree with ish because he is right about everything he said was correct. like when he said to be your own person and don't live in the shadows. and how to be your own person definitely was right cause you wont accomplish anything in peoples shadows. that's why I agree with ish.

    3. I agree with Ish's opinion of this week's quote for many reasons. One, like ish mentioned a great opinion of the quote which was to not be someones' shadow and you could be whoever you wanted to be and be your own person. Another great point that he mentions is hanging with the wrong crowd like you and your friends could get in trouble for something even though you didn't do anything wrong. One final thing Ish brought up is you need to stand up for what you personally think is right to you.

  2. “It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are.” ~e.e. Cummings What I think this quote means is that many of us want to be like others and not ourselves, and because of that we might choose to make the wrong decisions in life. If we choose to want to be like those people who do drugs and make bad decisions, we won’t be the person that we can be in life. For example, many people i'm friends with are scared to be who they really wanna be in life because they feel like they will be judged or made fun of. It will take courage for them to become who they want to be because they need to learn to ignore the comments from people trying to change who they are, and for them to do that, that will take a ton of courage. An example of this quote that can go with our lives is when Jackie Robinson wanted to grow up and become a famous baseball player, but because of his color his was made fun of and even called rude names. All of that didn't stop him though. He had courage and that’s what made him a famous baseball player today, because even though people talked bad about him for his color, he never stopped and became the person he wanted to be. The main reason many of us lack the courage to become who we really are in life is because we are afraid of what people will say about us or they will tell us what to do. When we finally gain the courage to ignore what they are saying, it won’t mean anything to us anymore because finally have the courage to become who we really are in life.

    1. I agree with you Alexis. A lot of people want to be like others. And I'm afraid that in this society that if you are not up to date with the way of life(touch screen phones, tablets, laptops, etc) you wont get anywhere in life.

  3. What E.E Cummings meant by, “It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are” was that it is not easy to just grow up and you must have the maturity to. If you really want to be who you wish to be you must prove your maturity to others around you. People will think that when you are younger that you are not mature enough to do this or not old enough to understand or help with. The reason behind that is because people around you will not know if you are truly mature to handle what they think might be too much for you to handle. This is why if you want to have your own self-image you must prove it through courage to grow up and become the one goal that you wanted to set for your future. Some people may ask curiously how growing up involves courage in any way? Well one example of this can be in school when you want to raise your hand but too afraid to if you might get it wrong. To have courage in class, you must have the bravery to raise your hand if you know the right answer. Some people are too nervous to even raise their hand to begin with because they might not have the confidence or know the right answer for the question. Another good example would be if you are at a party and your friend is drunk wondering if he could be able to drive you both home. Where courage takes place in this example to the courage and bravery to speak up to your friend and you make the better decision for the both of you and the safest one too. Most people are not the brave and don’t say their own possible opinion. This can make you who you really are because then it will give you that trustworthy image that most people will think of you. That includes friends to your friends can have the feeling of you being grown up with courage and trustworthy so that when it comes to projects or homework they can always rely on you. This quote can relate to me because I had grown up by have courage for many things from the past. Such as: being able to stand up and present a project without feeling mature and acting mature in front of the class. Another would be picking up the chairs in my last period class just for the pure kindness and to show that I have courage and respect to others which made me who I truly am.

  4. This is what i think what the quote means. I think that the quote means that the only way you will be happy in life sis by always being yourself and not letting anyone change the way you live and act. This quote means a lot to me because it this is the one of many mottoes i live by in maybe life. For a example if i didn't live by this motto i think i would have never got in to video games because i was never surrounded by them because my brothers would never let me play there video games. But i always wanted to play them and considering that my brothers gave me there video game units when they got new ones i always stayed true to video games even when they were not popular when i was a little kid. I cant really reference this quote to a book or movie because i really don't read books or watch that many movies but i can say that in everyones life that you can reference this quote to. And this quote can help you get a lot of things in life. hear are somethings that you can get. Awesome friends, a really cool job, better grades and the way it could get you better grades is by you will not need to worry over the things that you are trying to impress and i really see this happen in middle school and 6th grade because now the popularity role starts to come in and and starts to change peoples lives. i knew a lot of cool people growing up and now they are the biggest jerks in this world and it is popularity. Popularity rots the persons personality and the way they see people in this and if you are one of the "popular" people just ask yourself, "Do I really like this stuff I own and the people i hang out with?"And you might just deny what you think at first but keep thinking about it and you could be right and like the people you hang out with. Personality I really didnt find the group of people i liked hanging out with till 8th grade and that was half way through the year. And know what It ight have tooken that long but it is way better then basically being in limbo were i had no group of people to hang out with. Always remember this too. There is a group for everyone and there is no such thing as a outcast and if there are the true outcast are the ones calling you that. Do i think that groups are really stupid? of course. Can I change it? No, but i just go with the flow and try not to let it interfere with my friends and the people i hang out with. So that is what I think of this quote this week.

    1. I agree with your blog Mike. Many of us will be happier in life if we just be ourselves and not letting anyone change who we want to be in life. I also knew a ton of kids who I thought were cool when I was younger and now they are people I don't want to turn out to be like.

  5. I think the quote “It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are.” by e.e. Cummings means that it takes a lot become an "adult" and to start to behave as one. It takes a lot of maturity to be considered to be grown up and for some people that can be hard and even scary. So that is why he is saying it takes courage to become grown up because for some people it can be challenging and scary. Some teenagers can not even act grown even when they are eight-teen and have reached the legal age of being an adult because some can not either accept that they are an adult or are too scared to become one and act like more of a kid then some kids themselves. Sometimes kids have more mannerism then some Teenagers and adults because they were able to mature faster and are more grown up even though they are younger then that adult or then. Usually people who mature faster do better in school and usually become more successful then people who wait around until their in their twenties to face the facts that they need to start to grow up and become an adult. Sometimes people never do grow up until they absolutely have to and end up living with there parents until there in there thirty's and its not even that uncommon as you would think to see someone in there forty's still living with there parents because they never learned to grow up or become the adult they should be. In extremely rare cases there is people who live with there parents until they die. That again is all because they did not have a not courage to grow up and become an adult. People who actually go to college and mature and become grown ups even have a hard time getting a job that they could live on. Imagine how hard it would be for someone who doesn't really start maturing until there in there twenties. It would be almost two or three times harder then the person who matured and got the courage to become an adult. That is also why you should try to grow up and realize that your becoming and adult at a younger age. I can relate this quote to the book to kill a mocking bird. In the book the main characters brother Jeremy Finch or Jem matures rapidly in the book. He starts to stop acting like a kid which he was during the beginning of the book to sorta of a young adult by the end. That's how it relates to the quote by E.E. Cummings.

  6. “It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are.” ~e.e. Cummings
To me this quote means that you cannot change who you are to please other people who do not like who you really are. You always need to be yourself. You are your own person and you are not here to change yourself to make other people happy. You are here to be yourself and make yourself happy.

  7. “It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are” This quote was said by E.e. Cummings. What I think this quote means is that you have to be the one to make the step to grow up. Also you have to have confidence and courage to become the person that you really want to become in life. You can’t go through life being negative and not really trying anything. If you do that, it will lead to a negative life in the future and you will make negative decisions. However, if you go through life making positive decisions, you will lead a positive life into the future. Also, as you grow up and get older, you start find out and embrace who you really are, and the person that you will and want to become. Personally, I believe that this quote means that you need to have courage and pride to grow and embrace the person that you really are. I can relate this quote to the book Night by Elie Wiesel. Elie went through the concentration camps at a pretty young age. He faced obstacles that no one should ever have to face at any point in their life. He was forced to grow up way too soon than he should have ever had to. Going through all of the problems and obstacles that he faced definitely took a lot of courage and pride. He suffered through a very terrifying, difficult, terrible time. However, he still managed to pull through and live through the despair and torture that he had to call life. For example, he starved, and he had to watch people get brutally beaten and had to watch people drop dead right in front of him. Also, he had to watch his own father get beaten right in front of him, really for no reason. He had to go through a time in his life that no one should ever have to go through. I can also relate this quote to Martin Luther King Jr. He grew up in time where black people were segregated from everyone else. He stood up for what he believed in and gave his “I have a dream” speech and tried to put a stop to discrimination. I took him a lot of courage to do at in front of that many people. He made a real difference in the world, for the better.

  8. “ It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are.” This famous quote by poet ee cummings seems to fit where I stand in life at this time. In high school there is a lot of pressure to fit in and not to stand out. For example, a students may not fell they can full show all of their quirks and likes and talents for fear of being bullied or ostracized. A student can also feel labeled and put into a certain category because of past history or performance in middle school, etc. this quote challenges us to break free of all these thoughts and truly be the person we want to be at this moment, without fear of judgement. Personally, I think the challenge of this quote is quite difficult. Inside, and to those who know me, I enjoy life, having fun, and have a good sense of humor. Because of my shyness, my true nature is not easy to share with the world and I am stuck being viewed as “the quiet one”. Although I have made quite a bit of progress over the years, I am still working on showing the world who I really am. I also think that this “growing up” occurs, if we are lucky, for a lifetime as we make choices that, hopefully, are in keeping with our goals and talents. The growing also happens with more education, meet our spouses, and become parents this quote reminds me of the character Red in the movie The Shaw Shank Redemption. Red did what he could to protect himself and be indispensable in prison by being the man who could smuggle anything into jail. But underneath he was insecure and could not envision having the courage to begin a life outside of prison walls. As the movie ends, and Red is finally paroled, he summons up the hope and courage to reject suicide and join his friend Andy on the beaches of Mexico. This is the person Red really is and it took all of his courage to grow up and get there. I will think of this quote as I keep struggling to meet the goals I have set for myself. I will also seek out the courage to truly become the person I know is inside and keep growing.

  9. I wise person, named e.e. Cummings, once said, “It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are.” This quote could mean many different things to many different people. What I think this quote means is that becoming a grown up adult isn’t as easy and simple as it looks. Kids think that becoming a stable and considerate adult is the most simplest thing ever. It really isn’t what they think it is. It is way more complicated than it looks. You have to live with living on your own and getting a good job and make money. You also have to also have to deal with taxes and scams with your money. And when it comes to the point whether or not you’re going to have children. If you do choose to have children, you have to worry about raising them while trying to keep up with the other things like taxes and your job. It may look simple, but coming out of someone’s mouth is a different story. That is what I think the quote by e.e. Cummings means personally.
If I could relate this quote to a book or movie, I would relate it to a movie that the title name has slipped my mind. It was about these kids that had to become adults and get jobs while their parents were out of town. They thought it had been the easiest thing in the world, but when they started to work, it turned out to be way harder than it looked. One of them ended up having to steal money from their supervisor, just so they could afford what they could while their parents were out of town. They ended up getting into a lot of trouble and had to give back every penny they took. The parents ended up finding out as well and had their kids keep their jobs to help pay it off. In the end, I’m sure the kids learned their lessons and realized that becoming an adult isn’t the easiest and most simple thing in the world. Just so everyone else knows, growing up isn’t the best thing in the world. Stay a kid as long as you possibly can. Until then, prepare yourself for the upcoming future. Anyways, that is what I think e.e. Cummings means by his quote, “It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are.”

  10. I think the quote "It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are.” ~e.e. Cummings means a specific thing.i think it means that it is hard to grow up and specially when you grow up in a matter where you dont care what other people think or say and you grow up to be your true self, and not what society wants you to be.to show everyone what you as a person really are and not just a follower or try to fit in with the crowd.it could be easy to grow up,but not as u would like or be happy and true to yourself
