"You will miss 100% of the shots you don't take" - Wayne Gretzky. What this quote means to me is that what you don't ask or what you don't try you will never know what will happen. You should always put in 100% effort into what ever you do, because you will never know what can happen. This is a very good quote because it means a lot of things. It can mean for sports, work, tests, friendships, or even questions. Putting 100% into the work that you do means that you care and don’t want to fail. This relates to me because I hate failing. When I fail and I don’t put in 100% I get mad, because I think to myself…..why?. Why didn’t I put in 100%, it bothers me. But when I do put in 100% I feel like I did it, and it feels good. This quote is something to remember, because it means a lot to people or it just means a lot. I admire this quote a lot because what you don’t try is nothing unless you do try, then it becomes something. So when you are reading this quote “You will miss 100% of the shots you don’t take” what do you think its telling you. That’s the question you should ask yourself.

DeleteI agree Eli . When I know I dot finish or put in 100% it kills me. The other Day For example when I couldn't finish the Indian runs during practice that bothered me so much I hated that feeling. But next time ill go a little longer an improve.
DeleteI agree with Ish, oh I mean Eli 100%. Esepcially when it comes down to practices for sports like running a 16 in less then a minuite an I run in a minute an two seconds! I get really irratated an I keep working till I get that time I need! That bothers me a lot an I have to work harder an continue to progress! I think Eli really explained what he meant in this quote, good job kid!

These would be shots I missed because I never took them so I can't say that it was easy or hard I wouldn't be able to tell since I missed my chance. Therefore, I do completely agree with you.

This pertains to me bevause I never really ask questions cause I don't want to seem dumb but you got to get over that fear of feeling stupid because your classmates may say something to you. I know it's a hard thing to do but you just got to deal with it. This is a great quote for kids around our age even a few years younger and or older, it pertains to a lot of people.
ReplyDeleteA life expierence that I have had relating to this quote was during basketbal season last year when we played Lacey in travel basketball, I mean I had 8 assists, 3 points an 4 rebounds but I just really wasn't in the mood to shoot the ball that game, I mean yes we blew out Lacey by 21 but I just really wasn't in the mood to play basketball that night. I know that doesn't sound good "Oh Chris didn't decide to show up tonight" but it's not that big of a deal because we always have blown out Lacey. This is what I think this inspirational quote written by Wayne Gretzky means, I like this quote that Ms. Bocchino had assigned for this week, very good quote I hope we get to write an essay about it.
I agree with you Chris. What you said is actually right, well I think. When you said that you don't ask questions because you feel dumb is true. People don't ask question because of that. If you don't take 100% of the shots you don't take then will end up asking the same question, which it "I don't understand".

To me this quote means if you don't take risk then you will sometimes fail but if you do try then you might succeed. This quote may mean different things to you but it means this to me. ReplyDeleteThis quote relates to my life by I take many risks but some fail but I am okay with that because at least I tried. If I didn't try at all it wouldn't make me a failure it would make me someone who doesn't take risks. The day when I took risks was when I was in the talent show at school and one second I was backstage practicing and the next when I was going out I had totally forgot my dance out of fear. What I did on that stage was improve that I had made up as I went cause I wasn't going home without doing a dance on that stage. When I got off stage I started to cry cause I totally forgot the dance but at least I waited until I got off stage to start to cry. My friends all told me I was great and did I actually do that and I said yeah I made it up and I went with it cause I had practiced so hard I even practiced in the snow. This is what this quote means to me and this is how it inspired me to take risks and be myself.
I can totally see where you're coming from, Jessie. I agree. It is necessary to take risks to succeed in life. People who don't take risks when it is needed don't accomplish anything. Sometimes you just have to go out on a limb.
DeleteWayne Gretzky once said, "You will miss one hundred percent of the shots you do not take." What I think he meant by this is that if you do not even bother making an attempt at something, it is synonymous with failure, and it is better to try and fail than to never try at all. If you try and you fail, at least you know you made some sort of effort. If you never try, you will always wonder what would have happened if you did. Therefore, the former is the most beneficial option. Also, at least if you try, you have a chance. It may be small, it may be only a one out of one million oppurtunity, but it is a chance nevertheless. And any chance is a good enough one at that, because it may not be probable, but at least it is possible. I think most people would agree that something being improbable yet possible is far, far better than something being blatantly and utterly impossible. That tiny chance is worth it.

It is unlikely that you could win, but it is possible, much like many things in life. It is not very likely you will get your dream job if it is something a lot of people are interested in doing. But you still have a shot and you should take it. Otherwise, you may end up with a job you hate, wishing you had attempted to get the career you truly wanted.
I agree with you. you should take every shot you get you never know you might actually make it. many things people aim for have a veery small chance if eating but they still try. you hear all the time how one day someone decided to play the lottery and they won. They one because they took a chance of one in a million and they actually made it. sometimes it is just pure luck and other time you have to work towards your goal.

ReplyDeleteThis quote can relate to people and their current lives today. For example, this one time I didn't want to play basketball when I was 7 because I thought it was boring. Then my dad made my attempt it the next year and I ended up enjoying it very much. If I had played it sooner I probably would have made it a better experience for myself. To this day I attempt to give every fun or cool looking risk a try. In sports athletes take major risks when going for the gold or people trying to land their dream job. It's hard to say you have a job you enjoy getting up early and working for. Taking risks can be important because if you don't you never know what you missed out on. Don't you agree?

If you never try you won’t go that far, in life because you need to know things to make it in the real world. You also need to be comfortable enough with yourself and maybe take a risk and ask a question. When you ask question it doesn’t make you stupid it shows that you actually care enough to take your time and understand something, instead of just passing it and never knowing the outcome. This quote also pertains to sports. You have to be able to work hard and give it your all have a good outcome. No matter what you should always take a risk and try.
This quote relates to my life when I was 9 years old I wanted to try something new. So I tried out for softball even though I knew I wasn’t good at all. I tried it out and didn’t really like it at first because I was a very shy kid. During my first season I broke my arm. After I was all better my friend told me about a travel team she tried out for, so I took a risk and tried out for it. I was not as good as the other girls but I really enjoyed the sport even though I rarely played. After 2 season of that team I didn’t make the team. After that I was very upset and though maybe this just isn’t my sport but I really loved it and wanted to make it work. So I did I tried out for a lacy team and made it I have gotten a lot better than I have ever been now I have the confidence to play. I went from that last batter on my first team to leadoff batter every game. If I never took a risk to continue playing softball I would have never been wear I am today.
I agree. Taking risks or trying new things are important for people to do. Being comfortable with yourself and asking questions is a great way to take risks and learn something you may have missed or misunderstood. If you try you will succeed and if you don't try you won't go far in life.

I think this quote means that in order to succeed you must fail and to fail you must take a chance. For example how would you know if you’re good at something if you don’t take that chance and try it, that is what Wayne Gretzky means when he says “You will miss 100% of the shots you don't take.” You see it happen all the time especially at school when someone wants to be an honor student but he/she would put the effort in to their work or they won’t stay after ect… Another example is Michael Jordan’s quote "you have to expect things of yourself before you can do them," which I find to be very similar to Wayne Gretzky’s quote. That is what I inferred about Wayne Gretzky’s quote “You will miss 100% of the shots you don't take.”
ReplyDeleteI can also personally relate to Wayne Gretzky’s quote “You will miss 100% of the shots you don't take.” One example was when I first tried out for baseball way back when I was six or seven. Of course I wasn’t an all-star or anything but I was better than I thought and at the time I got really into it for around three or four years in till I just stopped, but I had so much fun in between that I regret even thinking of no doing it and just sit home all the time as I usually did back then. I regret now, a lot of chances I could have taken and if I had a chance to do them now I would do them in a heartbeat. I think that is the overall meaning of his quote, to live and not to say “what if.” That is how I can personally relate to Wayne Gretzky’s quote “You will miss 100% of the shots you don't take.”

This is such a great quote, Miss bocchino picked the perfect quote this week because I play basketball and I never know if It's smart to take the shot but you never know I till you try. That's what I think the quote means. I think it means sometimes your going to fail but sometimes your going to succeed so it doesn't hurt try. Also, it means you have to take risk whether you fail or succeed, it don't hurt to try because you never know what's going to happen. This quote relates to me because when I play basketball I never know if I should take the shot but you can succeed or fail and you have to take a risk, I do, now I never doubt myself I take open shots, I miss some I make some. It also relates to me because when I wrestle I have to take shots on my opponent and if they're good they mostlikely beat me but you never know if you can win or lose so I go my hardest and lose some but also I win some. For example, I doubted my self for half the wrestling season and I won the other half I went my hardest and succeeded I went 8-0 an undefeated season I got MVP of the season, so you never know if your going to fail or succeed so, take risks because in order to succeed in life you have to take risks. That's what I think the quote means.

I think that this quote means that if you have an opportunity to go to college for a sport that you should take it instead of throwing that opportunity away. if you worked your whole life to that sport you are going to college for don't throw it away. you dedicated yourself to that sport you chose to choose the correct road and achieve your goals. this relates to my life because I want to go to college for football or baseball because I want to be something one day. I want to say I made it. for the people who said I wasn't going to make it. and for the people who doubted me. I want to prove them wrong. I want to show everybody that I can be something one day. there is one thing in my way school in order for me to go to college and make it somewhere in life I have to do good in school. I need to get good grades. I cant get in to trouble. I need to focus on what I want for myself. I cant worry about my friends I have to focus on me. one day I will prove to everyone that doubted me wrong. watch when I do make it. that's when everyone is going to want to start being my friend.

Youll regret it later when your old and thatd when you start to think more. My friend gabby even told me that if I didnt find the light and start to like central high and adapt to it and get involved and go to dances. . That I will miss out on my highschool years. I took her words of wisdom. Shes right. I will do spring track. Im excited. Im going to do good. And live my life to the fullest. This quote is very inspiring in many ways. Its an eye opener stating that if yu dont give life your best shot and take every chance you get. Your gunna miss all of them if you dont put in any effort.
