  1. “You miss 100 percent of the shots you don’t take.” This quote relates to a lot of people including myself. When Wayne Gretzky said this I think he meant that if you try, but you fail, its okay because you took the chance. . On the other hand, if you didn’t try, its not okay because you weren’t willing to take the risk, and potentially fail. Like I said before this quote relates to me in a lot of ways. One way was when I tried out for the softball team 5 years ago. I didn’t think I was going to make it on the team because I ran really slow and I didn’t know how to hit the ball. I thought that all the other girls were so much better then me but I still tried out anyway. Well ,I didn’t make the team, but all the coaches gave me some good constructive criticism and I practiced really hard until the upcoming season. I did everything that they told me to do like running , hitting and throwing. ‘’I MADE THE TEAM!!!’’ I screamed when I found out. If I didn’t take their advice and try out for the team again, I would have missed my chance. I think people should take quotes more seriously because they really mean a lot.

    1. I liked the way you explained the quote. I also like how you took the chance of failing again and turned it to success. I think everyone should take the approach you did if there in a situation like you!

  2. The quote "You will miss 100% of the shots you don't take" by Wayne Gretzky relates to a bunch of people. What he means by this is that you should always try something no matter how hard it looks or seems because by the end of the day you'll be happy you tried something. Maybe you might not like after you do it, that's fine at least you tried and now you know something like that isn't your thing. Or you can try something and you'll start to like it. Also I think is means that if you miss your opportunity you will never get to do it again so that's where the quotes come along to. This quote that he said can show a lot about a person to see if they are willing to take the shot or not. It can also relate to me because in 7th grade some of my friends were signing up for track and part of me wanted to do it but I was so nervous to run in front of a lot of people. So when most of my friends were at track meets and practices I was home doing nothing. That's when I realized I shouldn't have stopped myself because I was just going with what I thought would happen. Then 8th grade came and I signed up with all my friends. I was happy I did because I would missed out again.

    1. Alyssa, you really got the point of this text. What you said about regretting not joining track is so relatable, considering a lot of people regret not doing something when they could have. You’re lucky you got a second chance to join it, and I’m glad you took it. Hopefully we can all learn a lesson that we should all just take chances, because taking chances is a lot better than regretting. I agree with you completely with how you also related this quote to basketball, just like any other sport too, if you don’t go for it you miss the chances of everything good that comes with it.

    2. alyssa i think your answer to. Always believe in yourself and dont let anyone bring you down, and what i really like about your response is that you had lots of good details. Anyway great job!

  3. "You will miss 100% of the shots you don't take." This quote is extremely wise and relates to me and the world around me in many ways. This wise quote is basically saying that you'll never know if you don't try. You're 100% of the chances you don't choose to take. If you try and don't succeed, you still will have tried and you would not be missing out whatsoever. A huge amount of people every single day turn down extraordinary opportunities because they're scared of what other people will think; afraid of being judged. When I was younger I was so scared to sign up for softball. I was terrified that nobody on the team would like me, or that I wouldn't be good at it. For two years I sat and wished that I had the confidence to play, but I didn't. I was missing my chance at the one thing I really wanted to do because I was afraid of what other people would think of me. Two years ago I finally built up the courage to join softball. I was great at it and absolutely loved everybody on my team, nothing that I believed would happen, happened at all. I missing was missing out on chances, simply because I wasn't taking them. I'm positive that there are hundreds of occasions that this quote relates to in every single person's life. "You will miss 100% of the shots you don't take." is one of the brightest quotes I've ever read, it's extremely accurate and I agree with it 100%.

    1. hey Mia, I love how you explained this quote. You definitely explained it from all the right angels. I agree with you completely, i also loved your examples and how it related to you. My favorite part you mentioned in your blog; was when you said "A huge amount of people every single day turn down extraordinary opportunities because they're scared of what other people will think; afraid of being judged." it was very easy to relate too, and 100% true. You should never be ashamed, scared or embarrassed. BELIEVE IN YOURSELF, keep your head up and you'll get through everything. I agree with everything you said; i loved your view on this weeks blog. <3

  4. Wayne Gretzky once said “you miss 100% percent of the shots you don’t take.” The wise words by Wayne Gretzky relate to many people. I think this quote means that if you never try or do something, you will never know what the outcome will be. This quote relates to me in many ways. When I was 12 years old I knew I wanted to try football, I eventually did. I thought football would be fun but really once I started playing I did not like it. If I never tried playing football I would have never known what is was like to play. Another example is in seventh grade I didn’t really want to try out for baseball because I didn’t think I would have made the team. I ended up trying out anyway. I ended up making the team and even starting. The next year during the eighth grade baseball season I batted 566 and had a great year. Wayne Gretzky in my opinion has stated one of the greatest quotes. Another example is if you play basketball and you are afraid to shoot because you don’t think you will make it and you end up never shooting, it is the same out come as if you shot and missed so would you rather take a chance and make it or never take a chance and never make a shot? “you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take” are wise words. Always take a chance when you get them.

  5. Wayne Gretzky once said “You will miss 100% of the shots you don't take”. This quote may mean many things to many people. To me this quote means that you will not know anything unless you try it. For example, if someone would ask you to try something that you never tried and say no, you would not know how it is because you never tried it. Also, in my opinion, it means that if you take a chance and it does not work, it is okay because you tried. Last, if you make that shot and you succeeded, it means that it was worth it.
This quote can relate to my life in many ways, but it can mainly relate to cheer. The first time I did competition cheer, I did not do as well as I possibly could. I was only 8-9 years old. We did not do well as a team and I got really upset about it. Most of the people on my team were beginners so now I understand why we did not succeed. Because of this I almost was not going to do cheerleading again and that would have been a big mistake. If I were to have stopped cheering, I would have never gotten to Florida for nationals and win first place and become a national champion. I would have missed out on a lot.

  6. Wayne Gretzky once said “You will miss 100% of the shots you don't take” This quote relates to me and I think every other person in the world too. To me this quote means that if you don't take chances you'll never know the outcome. What I mean by that is you won't ever know until you try. Whether or not it's a sport, a job opportunity, or even your first time riding a bike without training wheels. Life's all about taking chances. To me this quote could also mean by not taking certain opportunities you may not reach your full potential, or be able to experience what your destined to do. Even if its not your favorite, or if you don't think you're good at something. You wont ever know until you try. If you try and the outcome is negative, at least you can say you gave it your all. The quote “You will miss 100% of the shots you don't take” can relate to my personal life in countless ways. One example of how this quote relates to me is that if I never picked up a softball bat when I was 3 years old! Softball has always had a huge* impact on my life. I've been playing ever since I could remember, and I would've never known how good I was. Another way this quote relates to my personal life is skateboarding. When I was younger my brother and I would skate together, but I never knew how good I was until I started teaching myself tricks way beyond my age level. I have always been a gifted skater and skating is definitely one of my best escapes. My last example of how this quote “You will miss 100% of the shots you don't take” by Wayne Gretzky is because of my artistic abilities. When I was a little girl I started drawing, my mom and dad couldn't believe my art work; its been like that ever since I could remember. I didn't no that just by picking up a pencil my hands could express more emotion then words. This quote is definitely easy to relate to because I wouldn't have discovered, or be the person I am if I hadn't taken the chances.

    1. Hi, I definitely agree with what you said on how the quote could relate to everyone in the world. I'm amazed that you were able to play soft ball at three years old! I also like how you were able to teach yourself skate tricks beyond your age level, that must have been hard. You must have taken a lot of risks in your life. That's really cool. No one should ever have too be afraid to take risks. Great job taking chances, bye!

  7. Wayne Gretzky once said “You will miss 100% of the shots you don't take". In my opinion this means that if you don’t take a chance and do something that you’re doubtful about, you will never know what could have happened. When Wayne Gretzky said this he meant that you will never know until you try. Even if you do try and you fail, it doesn’t matter because you were brave enough to attempt to do it. if you don’t take the risk of failing then you will never accomplish anything. I can relate to this quote because last year I was actually brave enough to get my ears pierced. Yeah, I now it’s only a little pinch but it’s just one of those things that i was always scared of doing. I always saw girls with like ten piercings in their ears and I was so jealous because I didn’t even have mine done at all. But i plucked up the courage and did it. After I got them done I realized it didn’t hurt one bit. But the point is that you won’t learn anything unless you try even if it’s something small like conquering a small fear or riding a bike for the first time. I think that a lot of people can relate to this quote by Wayne Gretzky “You will miss 100% of the shots you don't take”.

  8. The quote “You miss 100% of the chances you don’t take” Can be interpreted in many different ways depending on the person. People can relate to this quote in different ways depending on their goals and outlooks on life. For example, when I hear this quote, I think of all the times I wanted to talk to the new kid or have a conversation with someone I don’t usually talk to, and never did. I always consider it for so long and get so close to doing it but then I never do. Someone else who may not have a problem being outgoing and open to new people, may have different problems than me. Maybe they want to try out for a sport but have a fear of rejection. Without trying out, they don’t even know if they’d actually get in, they’re “missing” the chance they could have. This quote by Wayne Gretzky pretty much means everyone has a fear or problem stopping them from doing something they want to do. No matter what it is, no matter what our reason to not do it is, they’re all excuses. You lose 100% when you don’t even take chances. Then after the fact, you regret constantly not taking the chance or at least trying you’re best, versus how you’d feel if you did take the chance.

  9. “You will miss 100% of the shots you don’t take” Wayne Gretzky once said, causing us to take our actions into consideration, making us try harder to succeed. I think the quote meant that if you don’t try your best, you won’t succeed. He is honestly completely right too, if you don’t give 100% I doubt that’s what you’re getting in return. One time when I was younger I wanted to get straight A’s, but at the same time I didn’t want to do homework. I obviously didn’t give 100%, causing me to nearly fail with all C’s. Eventually, I took my time and started being responsible, getting my homework done at a decent hour before bed and waking up early to get ready for school. Luckily, I finished the year with a decent grade, but I had noticed I didn’t give my all, leaving me with a few points off from straight A’s. This moment in my life relates to his quote because if I didn’t take the shot and try my hardest I would’ve missed some important lessons in life. Another example is when I wanted to win these concert tickets, and my friend didn’t want to call in, causing me to end up trying to win. After several calls I had won and saw a great band, proving to her that what Wayne said was true.

  10. “You will miss 100% of the shots you don’t take” I think this quotes means to always try because if you don’t take it you will miss the opportunity. Every day we get and opportunity and we end up not taking it because our friends aren’t doing it or it isn’t “cool.” I can relate to this quote in a couple of different ways. When I was in 7th grade, I didn’t want to play basketball on the school team because I thought that it would take up too much of my time. I played in 8th grade, and I played on the A team. I didn’t realize that the coach thought I was a good basketball player, and that she wanted me to play in 7th grade but I didn’t. Yeah, I had to stay after till 5 every day but it was worth it and I missed that opportunity in 7th grade to play basketball because I didn’t want to stay after. This quote definitely relates to everyone because we all don’t take everything that is handed or given to us. We wait to see what other people will think, or if we are afraid of being judged. Also, don’t be afraid of being judged, be who you want to be and give yourself a chance. “You will miss 100% of the shots you don’t take” is a great quote and I think that everybody should read it and understand that you can be what you want to be, don’t hold back for anyone or anything.

    1. Lillian, I think your response was great, along with your examples! "Every day we get an opportunity and we end up not taking it because our friends aren't doing or it isn't "cool.", was a perfect statement. I completely agree with you, because that relates to absolutely everyone. Also, good for you! I'm so happy for you, that you found a sport you were meant to play and do great at it. Never let anybody tell you you're not good enough for anything, you're meant to do what your heart tells you to do. I'm so glad you figured that out.

  11. What I think the quote "You will miss 100% of the shots you don't take” - Wayne Gretzky means is, if you do not try to do something you will never know how you will do. Even if you fail at what you are trying to do ,atleast you tried. Since I started kindergarten I never really had trouble in school with my grades. I mean I didn't get perfect grades but I didnt fail anything. Then when i started midde school this is when I had trouble in school with my grades. I did not take middle school seriously at all. Then when I started Highschool I said I would pass but I failed some of my classes. I failed because I did not want to put in the effort to pass. Now I am taking freshman and sophmore classes and next year I want to only have Junior classes. If I do not take the opportunities I have now in highschool I may not have many opportunities later in life. I want to be successful in life and have the best things money can buy. If I do not take a class like graphic arts or photography now i might miss out ona very big opportunity later on. Next year I woukd like to take photography or something that has to do with computers because I like that kind of stuff. That is what I think the quote You will miss 100% of the shots you don't take" means.

  12. Wayne Gretzky once said "you will miss 100% of the shots that you don't take." What this quote means to me is that if you don't try things, you will never succeed at whatever it is you don't try. You won't know if your good at something if you don't try it. You could be really good at something but you wouldn't know. This quote can relate to my own life because one day when I was in sixth grade and I was in gym and we were playing basketball and I never participated because I thought I was bad at basketball. That day in gym I finally participated. I found out that I'm actually good at it. I kept making all my shots. Later on that year I kept practicing and I gotten even better. So when it was basketball season I decided to play. My team won like all our games. We were one of the best teams. I've been playing for like 3 years but I haven't played for the school. This year I'm going to try out for the school team. Hopefully I make it if not I can always keep practicing and try it again the next year. I'm not just going to give up if I don't succeed the first time, I'm going to keep going for it.

    1. Victoria, I completely agree with you. You never know how good or bad you are at something unless you have tried it. I have had a similar experience to the one you had and i am happy it worked out well for you. In my opinion, you should try out for the team and I hope you make it. However, if you don't, there is always next year! Good Luck!

  13. Wayne Gretzky once said "You will miss 100% of the shots you don't take" I think this quote means that if you don't try anything or take any risks, you won't be able to do anything. You can't just quit at something because your afraid of failing and looking like a fool. This quote can relate to me because in middle school I tried out for soccer, cheer, and track. All of them had practice until 5:00pm. I had quit before the first week ended in all of them because I was afraid of my grades dropping because I got home so late. Although, there was another reason why I had quit, I felt like I didn't belong there. I was always one of the last runners in soccer and track. I think I really felt like I belonged when I was in chorus and drama. I tried many things before I knew my place. I don't exactly know if i'm good at soccer or track because I had quit. I'll try again another time but it can wait. I not very sporty but there is one sport I know I love, bowling. That's why in the winter i will be trying out for the bowling team. You should always at least try things even if you think your going to fail and look like a fool. If you ever do end up failing at something, you can always try again another time. Go through it with pride, because if believe in yourself and respect who you are, you will NEVER look like a fool. Take risks in your life because the outcome just might surprise you.

  14. "You miss 100% of the chances you don't take," was once said by Wayne Gretzky. This quote is very relatable to not only me but the real world also. Do you ever have one of those moments that you think to yourself "wow, I should have done that"? This is an example of how when you don't take chances, you will regret it in the end, which is what the quote means. It's also kind of like playing basketball. If you don't shoot the ball, you'll never make it. No body is perfect and I'm sure we all know this by now, therefor don't be scared to take a chance. If you don't take that chance, you'll never get an outcome, good or bad. Everyone fails at something, but it's okay too, because like I said, no body is perfect. This quote also does relate to me, in many ways. I'm always too scared to do something, then regret not doing that one thing afterwards. This is because I realized that I was missing out on many things ; life lessons, and rewards. You need to try in order to succeed. If you don't put any effort into anything, you get nothing back. This quote by Wayne Gretsky is very literal/forward. It tells you the meaning without having to think. Overall, I feel that this quote means that you need to try something(take chances) in order to succeed.

  15. I agree with what she said. I also agree with how she explained it because I would have explained it in that way too. My favorite explanation of the quote was that you have to try and take chances or you will never have anything in return and then typed be wishing that you could go back to take that chance.

  16. This quote, made by ice hockey star Wayne Gretzky, means that unless you take a chance and try you will never achieve anything. If you do not attempt anything, you cannot ever grow, or improve, or succeed.
The quote has meaning for me because at times certain things, like writing, can be very difficult for me. Yet I have dreams for my life that involve college and graduate school, having a successful career and family life. When I am faced with something new I try to find the courage to keep on trying every single day. I also try to focus on people, attitudes, and actions that will support my dreams, and I try to support others as well. It is very hard to take risks and keep trying even if you fail or are afraid, or the situation is challenging. Win or lose, succeed or have a set back, I think that the most important thing is to take the chance and keep on going. If we let fear stop us from taking our "shot", then we stop growing, miss out on a lot of joy, and become stuck in the same place.

  17. To many people that this quote means nothing. Or to some people they just don’t understand it. In my opinion I think that the quote “You will miss 100% of the shots you don't take” means that if you don’t try something you should because you never know if you will like it or not. Also I think that this quote means that if you never take a try at some thing you can never be good at it. For example if you think you want to play soccer but you know you will be on the junior varsity team, it good to just try something instead of just saying nahh and going on about your business. Because what if you are the best person on the team at free kicks but you don’t know that until you try it. This relates to my life because when I was little my dad wanted me to play soccer. But I said no because I had never played before but look at me now. What ever he said and what ever he did to get me to play soccer made me on the 2013 - 2014 national championship team.so if I had never taken that shot at soccer to just play I would have never been on the 2013 - 2014 national championship team
