Today's question is...
What do you
think about social media (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)? Does it sometimes
infringe on our privacy without our knowledge? How does social media benefit
us? Has social media changed the way we
communicate? If yes, is it for the better or worse?
okay:) i think that social media is cool but it has also ruined the way we communicate for the worse...because some people can only speak up or say certain things over the web..or behind a screen because some people are shy to speak in person. it benefits us from when were bored or cant see people at the time.. we just go on our phones..pads..or computers.. sometimes it does invade privacy without us knowing because sometimes people post to much information or too much exposion.. photos.. and what not..
ReplyDeletei remember one time i was on facebook and this girl messaged me and was like are you the girl that i went to preeschool with and she found me again and now were going to the same high school so social media is useful in a lot of ways. especially for bad people because they bully so.
DeleteSocial media has evolved greatly ever since it was first released to the entire world. Communication is important to our society today and lets people become aware of anything national. Such as massacres, plane crashes, new stories, and much, much more. Although, most people aren't aware that the information we post on these sites are public, meaning everyone on that website or page can view them. Social media helps people communicate with friends or helps you find old friends you haven't seen in a long time. All these sites have their own reason for existing. Twitter lets you post pictures or update statuses on what you're doing or where you are. Facebook is full of games and has millions of users to this day, you can message friends, post statuses and join groups with friends. I don't personally use social medias anymore but when I did, I had some fun on Facebook, twitter, etc. Technology is used frequently by everyone in the world, certain sites have privacy risks, like giving away information you didn't want anyone to know. But, that is the risk taken when you sign up for social medias that are used on the daily. Yes, I do think social medias like Twitter, Facebook and Instagram are helpful to a lot of people online.
ReplyDeleteI think Adam I true. Reading his story, it seems like we are on the same page and agree with each other. I like all of the information he puts in this article. I completely agree that it helps us communicate around the world. I also agree when he says that it is your own risk by putting out your personal information. You did sign up for these social medias so you should now if you do put personal information out on the web there is a chance that everyone can see it. I personally think the privacy setting doesn't help because the people that your following or are friends with can still see that information if you out it out there. The last thing I agree with Adam is that you can have group messages with people. This is good because it helps you and all of your friends to talk to each other. Therefore, after reading this passage I completely agree with Adam's opinion.
DeleteFacebook, Twitter, and Instagram are all different types of social media’s. I think that they are good and bad. The reason why I think its good is because you can meet someone new. You could also re-meet someone from high school and you want to catch up with them. In many ways it infringes on our privacy. If u post something on either Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram everybody that wants to see it can. The only way they couldn’t would be if they had a privacy on there account. I still think the privacy isn’t worth it because the people that your following can still see and re post it on there’s that might not be private. It benefits us by helping us talk to people that might have moved away. It also benefits us to the freedom of speech. Social media has definitely changed the way we communicate in the world. It used to be calling and texting but now you can send a direct message to someone on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Social media has had a big impact on how people communicate. This would be for the better because if u don’t have a phone you could use a computer and talk to people. Therefore I think social media is a bad thing and a good thing for people to use.
ReplyDeletei think that social media sometimes invades our privacy because there have been a lot of reports about Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc... about their accounts getting deleted for "inappropriate" statuses, pictures, videos, etc... when they are just them having fun with friends doing absolutely nothing but having fun. At the same time social media is somewhat beneficial to us because sometimes it gives us information on what happening in the us and the world depending on who is posting what on the social media. Social media has really changed the way we communicated because then it was calling on the phone and meeting with the person and now it's all "text me on Facebook." and "text me on twitter." Social media changes communication by a lot people cant even talk face-to-face man-to-man because now adays you can't tell either someone is lying or not.

DeleteSocial Media is a way for friends and families alike to get in contact with each other through the internet. In some ways, social media can be both good and bad. I myself am a user of several different social media sites such as Facebook,Instagram and Vine. I use these on a daily basis and I gain followers and meet people everyday. I also keep in touch with most of my family and all of my friends. These are some good things about it, however there are some bad things about it. For example, somebody can fake an identity and claim to be something that they are really not. Social media also gets very addictive and can dumb down your grammar such as instead of typing "you" you would type "u" instead and it has been shown through one of my essays back in the seventh grade. Some people rely fully on technology and sometimes do not keep there intelligence in their brains. I read a quote from Albert Einstein that reads "I fear technology will interfere with our human interactions. The world will have a generation of idiots." This quote has somewhat become true as the fact that most of the time humans communicate through technology. Some positives about social media include getting in touch with relatives and friends you cannot see often. Since the wonders of Facebook and Skype, friends and families alike use these to see each other face to face within seconds through video chat. Some people say that the government is spying on us through our social media accounts but I believe this fact untrue and just a faulty rumor. Social media was invented for people by people so that we can connect with the world and become one in the social community.

DeleteI think social media, things such as Twitter an Instagram may vary between good an bad! This does over step peoples boundaries it lets them know about peoples life's more then it should! This benefits us with certain things like sports updates, people’s lives if you haven't seen them in a while, world issues an you can follow your favorite sports athletes. Theirs thing people should post an shouldn't post but they can get a way with this anyways, sometimes it’s not right to bully anyone over social media. It's not right to bully anyone at all but people still does this to make themselves feel good about themselves an try to act cool. You could ruin someone's life by the push of a button an I have seen it happen. It is good cause you can get known on social media for certain things like "Vine Famous or Sports known". Another reason why it can be good because it can be a quicker way to find out things in our world today other then waiting for the paper the next day. But social has its ups an its downs but I live off social media basically. I really like the question Ms. Bocchino asked us this year on blogger :)
ReplyDeleteI believe social media is a good way to share with friends about what you are doing. You could ask friend to come over your house or even meet you at the mall faster then sending a text. I believe it sometimes does infringe on our privacy because it is telling about our lives and stuff but it is a fun way to share what you are doing to friends, family, or other people. Everyone is mostly online all the time so you probably wont have to wait for a comment or an answer.
ReplyDeleteSocial media benefit us because we could do this with friends and share it with family or other friends in a shorter amount of time. We can also find out friends phone numbers in shorter time and learn what's happening before we get told. I think social media has changed the way we communicate cause now we can communicate faster than having to wait for a text or we would wait for nothing if the person isn't even at the phone. We would be able to talk to friends faster than on the phone. The reason it would be good to talk faster to friends would be, because we would be able to know when our friend would get to a place or how long they would be so we aren't waiting forever for them to text or to get to the place.
I think that social media is a great thing. I think that its a great thing because , we have the chance to explore the world . Having social media lets us explore the world by having the chance to meet new people and explore their cultures . Not really , because you have the chance to say who can see your posts of not and who is your friend on Facebook of instagram because they have to request to follow you , so you have the right to say yes or no to their follow request. Social media also has many ways to benefit us . One way that social media benefits us is by helping us to say whats on our minds without having to tell the person face to face . Like for example if u have a boyfriend and he breaks up with you over a text message , its a lot easier for him to tell the person he is breaking up with , but it can also be hurtful to the girl , but things happen. Yes!! social media has changed a lot it has also changed the way that people see the world. Like couch potatoes , they sit on the couch all day everyday and they are either on their i pads...i pods..laptops ... computers ... etc.. Its like they sit their because they are too afraid to face the world , and see what the world has to offer them. All of this social media is for the worse , because like i said before with the couch potatoes , but its not just that ever since phones and all mobile devices came out the rate in car accidents, and people being injured and killed has greatly increased . So many people go on their phones while they are driving and on their phone and not watching where they are going . it seems like they dont care about their life when they text and drive.
ReplyDeletethe way i feel about social media is it is too used. there is never a time it is not being used whether your at home or work or school. it takes our time out of the day because we are to caught up seeing what Justin Bebier or playing candy crush.How many times have you been so caught up in social media and not done something?for me it happens all the time. But i do not think social media is infringing on our privacy because we control what we put up. its quite simple if you would not say it in front of your parents you don't post it on social media. Social media benefits us be cause it let's you keep in touch with people in other parts of the world.Also it can help broad cast fund raisers and events for free. Yes social media has changed our communication for better in many ways like face time and messaging.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you when you talk about how we over use social media. I agree because I see it happen all the time with my friends and even me. However I have to disagree with you because I think we cant really control what we post on social media. For example it might be you friend or just some one you go to school with because if you send some thing to someone else how do you know that person wont forward it to someone he knows ect ? That is my take on your post.
DeleteI think social media is a gift and a curse I think this because it helps a lot while it takes away a lot. For example social media can help keep distant friends in contact or family members connected. Another reason why it is a gift is because it can help some one sell or buy items. For example I sell/trade sneakers on social media and make a lot of money that I can use to buy diabetic supplies, school supplies, new shoes and food for my family so you can say its like a job. But on the other hand it can be a bad thing. One reason why is because of cyber bullying. For example if you are on social media and some one post some thing negative about you it can effect you in a bad way. Also it effects our privacy because we/someone else can maybe post some thing personal. That is why social media is a gift and a curse.

I think this is a bad thing because we need a face to face conversation instead of just one the screen. that is why I think social media is effecting the way we communicate
I think social media is a good and a bad thing, for example.. People enjoy social media, but sometimes peoples privacy gets invaded and that doesn't make people happy. people get criticized on social media and that sometimes hurts people. the good thing about social media is important information spreads around. I buy important stuff from social media. Another bad reason is social media can be evil, people can get made fun of on social media, and that's not nice. It sometimes infringes on our privacy and that's also why its evil. It benefits us because, we can text friends, post pictures, and see how people look. Social media has definitely changed the way people communicate today, people use imessage, instagram, Facebook, twitter, etc..
ReplyDeleteI think that social media can be both beneficial and harmful. It can sometimes infringe upon our privacy, but if you don't want your personal information out there, don't post it online anywhere. It can be beneficial because we can communicate with current friends, catch up with old friends, and meet new people. (I wouldn't advise ever meeting a stranger you know on the internet in real life, though. They could be a serial killer.) I don't think it has drastically changed the way we communicate. There have always been people who aren't so great with grammar and such, abbreviations have always been used (although not as often), and it really isn't so different.

I think social media should be banned. there have been so many problems over social media. such as cyber bullying and fights and so many other things. I live off social media but there are things that I see on social media that shouldn't be on there. don't get me wrong I love the social media its just that social media should be been maybe for a little just so kids can understand that there should be consequences.

Social media is better because if someone is in vacation and they post it on twitter, instagram, or facebook that means that other people can see what they are up to. Social media is a great thing have but on the other hand it can also be bad. Social media can be bad because it puts bad information out with people knowing. You can take a picture that you like but other people might think that is a bad picture.
ReplyDeleteI can relate to this because I go on Instagram, and there are people who post bad things or people who think that its not, but really it is. Social media is also a great to connect to each other. They can talk to each others through pictures. Social media is a really good thing. Friends and families also use social media so they can see how each other is doing. This is why social media is a great thing.
Social media plays a big part in our lives as we grow up. I think social media is a good way for us to communicate with each other and the rest of the world, but it also has some very negative outcomes. People get cyber bullied and get very hurt. What people say on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram can ruin reputations and their future. One stupid status or picture online can create the wrong impressions to other people such as teachers, parents and future employers.
ReplyDeleteIf you use social media such as Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram anyone is able to see it. That lets people see what our personal live are like. Your personal information is on display and who really knows who is seeing it. What if someone posts a status or tweets something and another person sees it and doesn't like? Will they start a fight with you? Even though it wasn't meant for them, they thought it was and now they are upset with you.
On the other hand, I think social media is not all bad. It is beneficial to us in certain ways. It gives us direct access to just about any information someone would need. It definitely helps us communicate faster and better. Having access to Twitter, Facebook and Instagram helps us express ourselves as individuals. We are in control of our own minds and feelings and we should be able to share with other how we feel, but we also need to be ready to deal with the outcome of expressing our opinions online.
