Ralph Waldo Emerson once said "Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail." I believe this quote means that instead of copying ones appearance, you should be yourself and make a name of yourself and try to make yourself unique instead of trying to impersonate another person. Which now a days is the case for many people because they want to fit into what society thinks the "perfect" image is because they can't just accept what people are but just criticize if you make your own path and do your own thing. For example i always talked,walked and dressed up like the cools kids and acted alien from what I'm used to and tried to fit in. At first it was all cool and all but then i learned something. I wanted to be different! I was in band and because of me doing that and not being on a football team with snobby football kids made me not "cool". But i stayed with band because i loved it and my friends within it too. I had become a 1st trumpet player and was excellent at what i did! Now I'm glad of me doing such because I've learned so much from the experience not only but it also mad e me "cool" in my own way in my family i call band. thats what i think Ralph Waldo Emerson meant by "Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail."
ReplyDeleteI think your very correct. I strongly believe in your statement. i think what you said about not being cool is fine. You need to be yourself to move on in life. So if i could rate your response on a scale from one to ten i would give it a 10. So i think your response is perfect.
DeleteI agree with your response. I think that Ralph Waldo Emerson wants us just to be ourselves instead of trying to copy someone else's personality. Almost everyone in our generation wants to be like someone else to fit in. From a celebrity to a country hero. That's why Emerson wants us to be ourselves and let others follow in what you do.

I think this quote means you shouldn't follow other peoples choices. instead be yourself and make your own choices. Nothing good ever comes from copying what other people do because they could be doing the wrong thing. I mean the best part of being a person is to make it your life. People nowadays think the right way is to be a better person and copy off the "popular kids" like that's the right way to live their life and mean something. When in real life you are just setting yourself up for disaster. The easiest thing ever is to be yourself and do what you think is right then you will be successful. But then there are days when you try and people make fun of you for it. That's why I think everyone is trying to get up there. On a higher level in life. I can relate to this a lot. It was around the middle school years i tried to act and dress the way everyone else did. But everyone was fighting to be the bigger person That's what got my attention and it changed me. I thought I was doing the right thing. But now I know that being cool comes from making a difference like being brand new. that’s what I think Ralph Waldo Emerson meant when he said “ do not follow where the path may lead. You should just be your own self and do what you wanna do, not what other people do. Today, people want other people to dress a certain way or think the same as them but that"s not the case, you should follow your own path because you could be who you want to be and let no one change that. If you follow what others do, that would lead to bigger consequences because people will think your a poser and you wont feel like your being yourself.

I strongly agree with your statement. People spend to much time worrying on there status. They worry to much about being the next popular or "cool kid". We see many everyday in school with their cliques or followers some might say. When in real life the way to go is to always be yourself no matter what people think. I also agree that there are times when you "follow" someone. There will be consequences because they most likely will not be doing the right thing.

What i think this quote means is you should lead the way do what you want not what other people want you to do. You should be yourself, like in some ways. people act like someone so they can be like them. But in reality nobody wants to be like them. People dress different ways so they can be like that person and again nobody wants to be that person in reality. If you follow someone else's footsteps it may lead into bad Things like the going to prison, or getting grounded just because you wanted to be like somebody else that you though was better than you.So be a leader make youre own path and make your own decision.
ReplyDeleteThis quote relates to me because when i was younger i was always trying to be like the popular kids and when i was acting like him and i was losing my friends. I though changing myself would be better for me. But than I realized I was doing wrong by changing myself. So than the next day I went back to being myself and i got all my friends. What I think this quote means is instead of following in someone else’s footsteps, choose another path and have someone else build off of that. Try and find something no one has done yet. Find the cure for cancer or stop global warming. There are so many things that you can create paths to. Just find something that you are good at. You too can create your own path and have others follow that path.
ReplyDeleteThis relates to my life in so many ways. When I was young, about five or six, I wanted to be a police officer. I wanted to protect this town from evil doers. I also wanted to follow in my dad’s footsteps and do what he does. He works with glass and makes and installs shower doors and mirrors. I was not sure what to do. I thought about it for a while and I decided that I wanted to create my own legacy by protecting people and become a police officer. I wanted to show that I can start my own path and have others build off of that. That is what I want to start my path as. I want to become a cop and have others do what I soon do best.

I think this quote means that you shouldn't follow a crowd and to make your own decisions and make your own opinions. This is how you are and if people want to join you fine. If not then don't let them stand in your way of you being or becoming you. Take this opportunity to become a leader! Have people look up to you. Be your own role model. And make sure to be confident about it because confidence is key. And it makes it look like you know what you are doing even if you might not.
ReplyDeleteThis quote relates to me because I always make sure to do something different. I always try to be open-minded, unique, interested in different topics, and original. That's because those are the things that make me who I am to this very day. Especially when I'm around friends and family. It's helps to be who you are around people who care about you, and won't judge you. In in conclusion this quote is a very important thing for kids my age to know. At my age people are trying to find out who they are and which path to take. Ralph Waldo Emerson's quote shows us that we don't have to though. So always take your own path because if you do it right you won't regret it.

Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail." what this quote means is that we should each make our own path instead of following behind others. its okay to be different and its also okay to follow but when you are a creative person you look for ways to express that creativity. this relates to my life because surfing which is my passion is not something a lot of other people do especially in the winter months when the air temperature with the wind could reach below freezing temperatures. the trail that I would leave behind is the same as trail that my brother did for me when he taught me how to surf. I will help teach his son like how I followed the trail my brother made. I will do the same for my nephew as my brother did for me. my nephew is 5 years old and if he stared surfing soon by the time he is my age he will be a lot better then I am now. starting him young will help him out be a great surfer. I want this to be a family trail. I want my kids to follow this trail because it is different and not many people are as dedicated to sports as I am to surfing. this quote shows you do not have to follow someone else's trail. you can do what you want but if you are to follow a trail do it out of your heart not because someone wants you too.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with your response. This is because it's true that you should be creative and that it's okay to be different. And you're right a lot of people don't surf and as a person who also surfs I think it's really cool that you are starting your own trail of that. Then having your family in the future hopefully follow that new trail. So in conclusion you should always make your own trail weather it's surfing or something else.

I think that this quote means that you should be a leader not a follower. Instead of doing what most of the group does do your own thing and create your own path or future. Emerson is saying do want you want to do not what others want you to do. A lot of times following the a path that has already been made could lead to bad things. People sometimes will follow the crowd to fit in and be cool, so they will follow a group of kids even though they know its the wrong thing to do.
ReplyDeleteThis occurs in my own personal life by just being in high school. No matter how confident you are in yourself we have all followed the crowd at least twice. A lot of times when im with my friends, I kind of just go along with them even though I know they stuff they are doing is stupid. But I think for now on I should say what they are doing is stupid and not let them cause they could get really hurt and sometimes it could lead to me getting hurt. I honestly think this is one of the best quotes because everyone no matter who it is can relate to this. So for now on im going to be my own leader and not care about what others think
I absolutely agree with your response. I agree that you should be a leader not a follower. You don't have to follow what other people do, you should just be a leader for yourself. I also agree that if you try to be one of the cool kids, it's wrong. Your response is very good.

If all your friends are doing something and you think you shouldn't , then don't , don't be a follower. this quote relates to me because I try to be myself and choose my own path. I don't think anyone shouldn't be themselves . I do only when I really want to do that thing. Especially when your around friends and family. They influence us in a lot of ways but for ensample if your dad does construction it doesn't mean you have to do that to , choose your own career.
