Wayne Gretzky once said, "You will miss 100% of the shots you don't take." What he met by that was if you want to do something and you don't do anything about it, it wont happen. I like this quote because its the truth. If you don't do anything that you wan't to do like learning a instrument you wont learn how to do it because you didn't put any effort into it. Many times this happens to people like my brother Danny. He wanted to go to welding school but he just didn't do anything about and now its to late to join up. Another time is when I wanted to get money from working for my uncle up in New York but I did nothing about it so I got no money and was not able to see my uncle till a month later at a family reunion. Also I had a chance to play in a band that was going to open up for some well known metal bands and I did nothing about it so all I could do was see the show. But sometimes in my opinion its good that you don't take that chance like once I had a chance to buy a video game that looked really good and it turns out that it was SSSOOO bad that people said it was unfinished. The way I also see this quote is like gambling. If you don't take the chance you won't have a chance of winning that money but you may have a chance of losing money. So that's what I think about this quote this week.

DeleteWhat Wayne Gretzky meant by "You will miss 100% of the shots you don't take" is that if you don't take the opportunity to go for something you really want to do, than that opportunity will be gone and will not have the chance again. For example, a couple of days ago my friend Charlie was curious about Cross Country. The thing was I was hanging out with him through out the entire summer. At lunch I told him that we were practicing the entire summer to prepare ourselves for the future in Cross Country. So Charlie basically decided to wait until school starts to ask me about Cross Country even though the summer. Now Charlie has to wait until the summer starts again so he can join me and a couple of upper classmen to run Cross Country with us. So really if you know someone that is doing some sport or activity you want to do then ask them about ahead of time or even take the opportunity to ask before the opportunity goes away. Another opportunity could be like studying for a test for school. If you forget to study last night and you have a test to take right now, you missed the chance to have studied and been able to get a decent grade instead of getting a failing grade. So in my opinion that is what I think the quote from Wayne Gretzky means and how it relates to me and even a friend of mine from school too.
ReplyDeleteWayne Gretzky once said "You will miss 100% of the shots you don't take" I think that this means that if you have a chance to do something and you don't do it than you'll miss it 100%. You won't have another chance to do whatever you wanted to do. For example I was asked if I wanted to go out with one of my friends and I said no because I didn't want to go out that day and I realized that after I said no I wanted too and I couldn't say yes because it was too late. Take every chance that you have and do it because you won't get to do it again and you only have one life. I'm not saying do bad things but if you have a chance to do something good than do it. Another example is if you have an sport game and you don't show up for practice but you want to play on the team that's not going to help you. You have to want to do it and give it every chance that you have. You don't have to do it all day but practicing would make you better and get on the team. It also gives you a chance to see if you're good at something and to see if you like it. You only live once so take all your chances!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Megan because there were days where I wanted to go places with my friends when I already turned the request down. We only have one life so we should make the most of it and take a shot. That shot could be from trying to get into a good college or just trying to make a school team.

I totally agree with you because you are right on how you think he meant that if you have a chance to do something and you don't do it than you'll miss it 100%. I also like your examples on how you related to the quote like the friend example. And also on the example of the sport game too. What i think it means is that if you have a opportunity to do you something and don't do it you miss your shot. But if you have an opportunity and you take your chance you didn't miss your shot. Not taking the shot means not taking your chances to do something good in life. This is what I think the quote means in my opinion. What This quote means to me and how it relates to my life is because over the summer when we had football camp, i didn't show up. On that day that i didn't show up they were all doing their max's. I miss my shot to do the 40 yard dash, to find my max bench, and to see how high we can jump. That's important because that tells weather we've improved ourselves or not. I miss my shot. Point is weather or not you have one chance in life not taking opportunities and chances might not help you succeed and might not help you get out more. this is what i think when he says "you miss 100% percents of the shots you don't take"

Believe me, i have done the same thing before for hockey and i felt horrible.But everyone does it and i agree with what you said on this quote "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take"
DeleteIsh is defiantly right when he explains this quote. When ish explains this quote he tells us about how this quote means that we can miss opportunities and chances in our life. Just like when he gives his example. He tells us about the time that he missed the football practice and he missed a big day. He missed his shot. That's why I think ish is a hundred percent right when he explains the quote to us.

This is one of my favorite quotes because i play ice hockey and i know that Wayne Gretzky was one of the best hockey players to ever live.What he ment by "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take" is that if you go out for a sport, and you really want to that sport. For example, hockey tryouts. If you keep saying to yourself that you want to play ice hockey and then when it is time for tryouts you didnt show up because you have decided that you don't want to play that sport anymore, you just missed your shot to play. But then if you if none of that happened and you decide to go to tryouts and you make the team. Then you are happy that you tried out for the team.This famous quote relates to my life because my older brother kyle played ice hockey since he was young. When he was a junior in high school Central Regional finally got a ice hockey team.He didn't want to play or have any interest in playing. But when my parents kept telling him to play he finally did and he said it was ok because we only had a Junior Varsity team at the time. But later on in the season he started to like it more. Although when he was a senior Central Ice Hockey had gotten the varsity program. Then he really liked it and he is still into it. He is gonna play in the mens league next year at Winding River Skating Center. This is what i think Wayne Gretzky ment when he said "you miss 100% of the shots you don't take.

Like if you have an amazing voice but you don't try and show people then you will never know if you could be someone big , you never know you could be the next beyonce one day . I can relate too my life easily , when I did track I had too force myself cause I didn't think I could be good enough . but I pushed myself too he point where I showed people what I can do , and what I could do was pretty amazing . I tried my hardest and become captain in 8th grade. If I didn't force myself too do it I would of never known I was capable of doing something like that . Wayne Gretzky is completely 100% right in this case.

There is tons of opportunities that people pass on, but they could have been great at whatever they could have done. ‘’You will miss 100 percent of the shots you don’t take.’’ If you always take the shot there is always a chance of success. You have nothing to lose. So if you always try you might not always make it but, at least you have the memories and experiences. You should never not do something because you think you are not good enough. I can totally relate to this quote because when I was going into seventh grade I was looking forward to try out for basketball, but when try outs came I thought I was not good enough. When eighth grade came I thought I was confident enough to try out, but again I was a chicken. I missed those shots because I was not confident. I am sure if I did try out I would have made it, but I was a baby about it so I missed a good opportunity. As Wayne Gretzky said ‘’you will miss 100 percent of the shots you don’t take.’’ Meaning don’t be afraid to get rejected. Also you never have anything to lose, and don’t think you are not good enough.

What I think Wayne Gretzky meant by this quote is that if you don’t give effort to chances you have in life or life situations, then you will miss something big on the thing you didn’t took a shot at. For example if you had time to do your homework when you had a lot of free time and you didn’t do it during your free time, you’re going to end up not having time later because things will come up or you might get tired. Also another example for this quote will be you taking your time on doing your work because if you don’t take that shot on doing your work steady or taking your time then you’re going to miss the shot after you failed on the work you done because you didn’t took your time or you didn’t want steady. Anyway I can relate to Wayne Gretzkys quote to an experience in my life when I didn’t stay after for help on the subjects that I didn’t understand, and by me doing this I ended up not understanding the subjects and also getting bad grades as well. Therefore I do miss on the shots of staying after because if I did stay after I would had understand the subjects better and I will had probably gotten better grade.Therefore this is an experience that I can relate to Wayne Gretzkys quote.

DeleteWayne Gretzky once said “You will miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” I think the quote means that if you don't try, you won't know if you can do something or not. For example, if you want to get a job or go to college, you need to turn in the application. If you turn it in, you have a chance of getting in. If you don't, you won't have any chance of being considered for that job or school you want. I wanted to get into MATES. To do that, I had to fill out an application and take a test to see if I qualified to get into the school. When the day came for me to go and take the test, I was scared and didn't want to go because I knew I wasn’t smart enough to get in because it was such a competitive school. I decided to go, because even though I knew I probably wouldn’t get in, I still had to take the shot and see if I had a chance. If I didn’t take the chance, I would always feel regret. Some people may have decided to back down and not take the shot and then they feel regretful and wish they took the shot. If you feel like you want to do something in life, you should take that chance because it might only come once.

Well i think that it means that if you dont take a chance on things that you will miss 100% of all the things that you wont take a chance on. Just like playing a sport if you dont take that chance and run for a touchdown or shot the goal. Well you will never know if you would have made it or not. That means that you are gonna miss all 100% of those shots you didnt take. I can relate this to me because i one time had a chance to jump off of a 100ft drop off of a dock into water. The only reason i didnt junp in is because there where alligators. But i will never know if i would have gotten eaten or if there where non around where i was jumping in. That is what i think the quote means and how i can relate this to me and my personal experience.

When Wayne says this quote he means that if you are scared to do something because you are scared to fail, try it. If you try it you might not fail, you’ll never know. Thats why you have to try. Also you will most likely fail even more if you dont try. But if you do try and fail, at least you tried. Thats all that counts.
ReplyDeleteWhen saying this quote, I can think of many times I can relate to it. One of the times I can relate to the quote is when i tried field hockey. In 7th grade,I really wanted to try a sport but was scared. I cant play any sport but i have never tried field hockey.When i brought it up to my mom she said I should try it and if i don't like it i can just quit. So I tried it and turned out to hate it. So what i didn't like it. I tried it thats all that actually matters. I would have never known i didn't like it without trying. In conclusion, the quote “You will miss 100% of the shots you don't take” said by Wayne Gretzky means that if you are scared to try things because you are scared to fail, you should definitely try it. You should always think about this quote in decisions on trying new things!
I agree with you on the quote because something happen similar to me years ago when I was in 5th grade. Happen was I joined band to play the drums. I didn't know if I was going to like it because I wasn't to play on a ddrum set. But I took the shot and it turns out I liked it. So that's why I agree with you.

If you say i don't know if i'm good enough you will always say what if. That what if will always kill you inside. That is like saying i don't know if i'm good enough to do that so i'm not gonna try. The fear of failing or being wrong is what will eat you up inside. This quote say to me don't be afraid frightened fearful of the unknown. I Am scared of making mistakes yes i am and that has held me back from auditions from solo opportunities. Have you ever tried out for anything but was afraid you were not good enough. Never be afraid of that because if you don't try you won't know. if you don't feel good enough just try out you will never know until you try. You have to fail to succeed and continue and never give up. I have been stuck in a shell my whole life because i was afraid of fear. I was the only kid who shy but when i was alone i would play like no one is watching. But one day i tried out for first chair and i was so scared i shaking, trembling in my skin. But when i got up there and they said Adam first chair Adam concert solos . i was jumping for joy all i'm saying dont go your whole life, saying what if??

I agree with you, everyone hides because of the fear they see before their eyes.I remember passing up so many opportunities and always saying what if, it's a horrible feeling to have to go through for the rest of your life. It's nice to actually just try and if they fail so what at least they did unlike most people. I'm glad you broke free of your shell and is not scarred to d o what they want. You took your shot and in return you got your opportunity to be something bigger.

If you’re afraid to take risk then you are missing out on a lot of great opportunities. This quote is mostly seen for basketball. In basketball it’s all about taking shots. Who cares if you miss? There was still a chance of you making the shot. This is also used for other sports as well not only basketball. In basketball, a lot of people are scared to take shots because there’s a chance of you missing. Just like in life if you take shots there’s a possibility of you failing. But you aren’t supposed to be afraid of failure. Failure is a apart of life and some people don’t understand that. Michael Jordan once said “You have to fail before you can succeed”. That is one of my favorite quotes till this day. This quote reflects on my life because I love playing basketball. And in basketball, like I said earlier you have to take shots. I was playing for my team in my neighborhood and it was the 4th quarter. There was less than 10 seconds on the clock. We were down by 2. So I took it upon myself and shot the last shot and made it. If I didn’t take the shot we wouldn’t have won the game.

As I said in my writing, this quote is mostly seen for basketball , but it could also work in several other cases. For example, In football, if you see the quarterback throw a bomb that you could go run and intercept and you don't do it , you didn't take the shot. Also , if you know you have a test to take and you don't study you didn't take the shot. Life is going to be full of disappointments so why be afraid to take a risk and take a shot.

To be honest I rarely see this quote for anything other than basketball. In basketball, the only way to win is by taking shots. If you miss, follow your shot or get back on defense and make up for it. Everybody is going to miss so why be afraid to shoot? For example, Michael Jordan always says "I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed." 26 times Michael Jordan has taken game winning shots and missed. Did he cry over it? No. Did he feel bad? Maybe. Did he let it hold him down? No , he forgot about it and came back the next game better than ever. In conclusion , Wayne Gretzky once said "You will always miss 100% of the shots you don't take." What he means by that is being scared gets you nowhere. Do you think Wayne Gretzky and Michael Jordan got famous for being scared to shoot? No, so don't be afraid to shoot , and who knows , maybe you'll become a great shooter.
ReplyDeletei agree with you. One of the reason i agree because that was me when i was playing for manitou. I scare to shoot because i didn't want to mess up and cost the lost for the team. Everytime i think about it i wish i did take more shots, not cause i want to but why play your favorite sport if your not going to take risk. I missed 100% but next summer is going to be different cause i'm going to take risk and come back better then ever like Micheal Jordan did when he played. Thats why i agree with you and the quote.

I think it means that you have a chance of succeeding at something if you try, If you don't try you get nowhere. If you really want to succeed in something you have to put forth full effort. You cannot succeed at something if you don't at least try. He is also saying that if an opportunity comes up that will never come around again then you should try your best to succeed or you won't succeed. If there's something that you want to do really bad then take the risk because the outcome will either be good or bad. If you don't take the chances that come in you life than you could end up missing something that could change your whole life around. There's probably so many people out there that had a big chance of changing their life in a good way but they didn't want to make an effort, or didn't wan to try. Those types of people could have had a great life instead of bad. Overall I think that Wayne Gretzky is trying to say that if an opportunity comes around to take it ad make the best.

I really think this quote was a great meaning for every one that read it because it motivates people to try and go for what ever their shooting for. if you don't take the shots you want to take there's a bigger percent that you wont make as many shots you would take if you did take one hundred percent of the shots that you would take. This quote relates to my life because I've had a lot of opportunity's to score touchdown or get more yards then I did but I didn't do it because I didn't think I could have made the passes or yards. this quote relates to my life because I've seen kids in my career of playing football that could have easily have done better then they could have but just did have the right mind process to think that they could have. this quote is really outstanding because it helps a lot of people that have read it succeeds in life because they all ways go for it no mater what's gunna happen because they know that it will always lead to better things in life.

This quote relates to my life. I have missed out on things because I was too scared to do it. In the seventh grade, I wanted to try out for the middle school basketball team. I was debating on if I wanted to do it or not. I was too scared because I have not really played the sport, and I have never had experience on a team. I should have tried out because I missed out 100% like in the quote. If I had tried out I could have made the team or maybe not. At least I would have made an effort to try to make the team. This quote can also relate to another event in my life. In the eighth grade I finally tried out for the middle school basketball team. When I tried out I felt good because I have been practicing since the year before, I felt I was one of the best kids there. When the coach posted the list of who was on the team I wasn’t on it. I was very upset and confused. I needed an explanation. I was so mad I didn’t make the team that I didn’t want to even talk to him to ask him why I didn’t make it. Well then I realized that I had just missed out 100%. If I had asked the coach what I did wrong then I could have practiced for next year. I would have had a better chance of making it the next year. If I have never let my anger get the best of me, I would have known what I did wrong. What I think this quote means is that don’t miss out on any chances you get because you will miss out 100%.
