"Everybody is a genius. But, if you judge a fish by its
ability to climb a tree, it’ll spend its whole life believing that it is
stupid.” – Albert Einstein
*Explain what you think this quote means?
* What does it mean to you personally? Give an example from
your own life when you have seen yourself or someone else experience this.
"Everybody is a genius. But, if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it’ll spend its whole life believing that it is stupid.” – Albert Einstein. At first I was really confused by this qoute. But, after giving it a little thought I believe this qoute means that if you expect a person to do something that they are not good at and expect them to excel at it, then they fail, you might criticize that person and they will feel like they aren't good enough. Also, the first part" everyone is a genius" means that you can't just tell a person oh your gonna be a genius and super good at these things, your born with your personal abilities. Another message I got from the qoute was that it's impossible for a fish to climb a tree so for some people it's impossible to do certain things whether it's with physical disabilities or mental disabilities. This qoute relates to my life personal life because I have a cousin with autism. His name is Aidan and he's only 4. People are quick to look at him and think that he won't be successful in life like a person without autism. Yes there are things he can't do well like reading and writing, and there are certain things he just doesn't understand. But people don't have the right to judge him by his abilities because he's not like the rest of us. My family treats him just like any one of us and we don't want him going through life thinking he's different or not good enough. I've seen this in my life because people with disabilities, for example people in wheelchairs, the first thought people think is oh look they can't blah blah blah. But, people in wheelchairs can learn to play sports with the wheelchair and they are even better then people not in wheelchairs. In my opinion I believe that people shouldn't judge people jut by their looks and physical disabilities.
ReplyDeletegood job this week. I agree with how you related the quote to real life. and I do like the way you used your cousin with autism as an example it was a great choice and I think it is good that your family treats him as one of them because that's how it should be.
DeleteI agree with your blog this week. I liked how you related it to people with physical and mental disabilities. I also like how you related it to your very own cousin! Good job this week
DeleteA really really really smart man that goes by the name of Albert Einstein once said “everybody is a genius, but if you judge a fish on its ability to climb a tree, it will spend its whole life believing it is stupid.” In my opinion this quote can mean many things. I believe the point Albert Einstein was trying to get across that everyone has there own unique ways of being smart and judging or making fun of some one could waste some ones life making them think of themselves as stupid even though they are not. Personally I think that this quote can mean many things and some people will think of it differently because of there own life experiences . in my opinion this quote means if you judge someone by what they can not do they will never have enough confidence to do or show people what they are able to do. For example if a kid gets made fun of for not being able to throw a ball well, they will never show there other abilities even if they are really good at them because they are afraid that they will be made fun of for what they do even though they can or will be good at it. In my life I have seen a kid that did not have great hitting ability in baseball but was a really great player in the field and made almost all of the plays possible. Everyone was talking about how he wasn’t a great hitter even though the kids weren’t themselves and that made him feel the need to quit baseball even though he had great abilities. “ if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will spend its whole life believing it is stupid.” Is a great quote by a great man and I believe that anyone can relate to this quote in certain ways,. In my opinion this is one of Albert Einstein greatest quotes he has ever stated. Over all I like this quote this week and it happens in people lives all of the time, we just do not realize it.
ReplyDeleteColin,
DeleteI think your blog was amazing. The thing I liked best was when you said that if you judge someone by their skills, they will never have enough confidence to show you their true abilities. I also can relate to the stories about baseball because I see that a lot in softball. Overall again amazing job.
Hey, I think your blog was great. I think you explained the meaning of the quote well, and your own life experience. The base ball experience was a great example for this quote anyway great job.

ReplyDelete"Everybody is a genius. But, if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it’ll spend its whole life believing that it is stupid.” – Albert Einstein. I think this quote can mean many things from everyone’s point of view. From my point of view I think this quote means if you expect someone to do something and you know that they might not be able to do it as well as you or they can’t do it at all, you shouldn’t make fun of them for it. Everyone is different and everyone has something special to him/her. That’s what I think Albert Einstien is trying to say, not everyone is the same and you should respect that. Personally, I think this quote means if you put someone down because they aren’t as good as you at something , it’s not going to help them get better. It just puts them down more and more and you don’t let them gain confidence. “If you judge a fish by the way it climbs a tree, it’ll spend its whole life believing it’s stupid.” I think that part of the quote means exactly what it says, yeah the fish climbing a tree is hard to understand but it means something. For example, if you were to tell your friend that they can’t do math and that they are stupid, they might take it to heart, even know you might be joking, they can’t take it the wrong way and go their entire life thinking what you said is true. I have seen situations like this in my life with kids in school or just in public. I have seen kids say another kid that they are stupid and they believe it. They think that they are actually stupid. I think it’s a big problem because people today commit suicide because someone says to them that they shouldn’t deserve to be on this earth. These kids hear that and it hurts them badly, you wouldn’t want someone to say that to you, would you? No, you would want someone to complement you on what you do or the way you dress. Overall, I think this quote is important and people should think about what they are going to say before they say it.
ReplyDeletegood job with week Lillian. I like the way you explained the quote. You understood exactly what was going on. You did everything right this week and I cant wait to read next weeks. Good job again and your writing it getting better
Delete"Everybody is a genius. But, if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it’ll spend its whole life believing that it is stupid” was a quote from Albert Einstein. It’s obvious what he is trying to say about everyone being a genius. But when he says when you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree I think he means we are fish. And if someone says something to someone about not being able to do something then us, the fish, will think we aren’t good enough or smart enough to do it. So don’t tell someone they can’t do something right or can’t do something at all because that person that person is right. Everyone has their own way at looking at something and when people start seeing that when the world would better with the way everyone looks at each other with their ability to do something. I like the way he take it too. Too some people it can mean something completely different. It is the way someone looks at it. Also this has to do with people making fun of the way do something. Some people could be slower than someone and they would need more time. It is not how slow they take or many times they have to do it, by the end of the day they will reach it. This is why I think he used the tree as an example. It can all come together and it fits perfect. But one time in my life this happened to me was in 7th grade. I just got to the middle school and I was thinking so much into it. About how hard things would be and if I could do them. When I got to math I didn’t understand anything that whole year in math was hard. I told myself I couldn’t do it. But in 8th grade u started to understand better because I knew I wanted a change. Now in the high school I understand it all and it is so easy. At first I told myself I couldn’t do it and I was stupid but I didn’t give up I got to where I wanted to be
ReplyDeletegood job alyssa! your blog is great i like the way you explained, you did a good job.
Delete"Everybody is a genius. But, if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it’ll spend its whole life believing that it is stupid.”- was once said by the one and old Albert Einstein. This quote can be taken in in many different ways depending on who the person is. In my eyes, this quote means that everyone has their capabilities and anyone can reach their goals if they try hard enough to do so. But, if you give them a task that is physically impossible, such as a fish climbing a tree, they will attempt that task and will fail. This may bring down their confidence a lot, and make them feel like they are stupid. In reality, they are not stupid, they just are not capable of doing the impossible. I have seen many people have to face this challenge. For example, my sister is in 5th grade. When she was in 3rd grade, her teacher gave her a middle school test, just to see where she stands. She didn't know how to do any of the problems!! She definitely got a grade below 10, and she came home crying because she thought she failed and she thought that she was stupid. She clearly was not capable of doing middle school work when she is in the third grade. For another example, it was the Christmas of 2011, and my mom lost a lot of money that year due to personal issues. That Christmas, we did not get much because of the huge money loss. My whole family didn't mind at all because we all understood what she was going through. She still felt like a failure and she wanted to prove that she loved us. We told her not to stress about it though, because we know she cares a lot and gifts won't prove it to us. Overall, the quote "Everybody is a genius. But, if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it’ll spend its whole life believing that it is stupid.” said by Albert Einstein means that you should not bring yourself down because you failed to do the impossible.
ReplyDelete"Everybody is a genius. But, if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it’ll spend its whole life believing that it is stupid. "This quote was written by a famous man Albert Einstein. It means that everyone has something he is good at. Many people are forced into things that they aren't good at and so think themselves stupid because they aren't as good as everyone else...but if you put them where they are good, they will excel. This saying just tries to say find what you are good at and you will excel or slop around in mediocrity all your life and you will think yourself dumb. I agree with the idea of shooting for something you are good at and you will excel. This saying just leaves out ambition. This was a story of teacher I heard before a while-... so it pains for her to know what lies ahead for these fantastic kids. Some will return to the school system and flourish. They will work their way through different exams testing their reading, writing and arithmetic skills. If they have these desired skills they will be deemed academically able. Those are the lucky few. she was only a class teacher. I’m a small cog in a massive machine. Realistically, she couldn't change the system. However, she had one year to make an impact on a group of kids. From this day forth she will look for those hidden skills. she will praise and recognize different achievements in my classroom. she will do my utmost to avoid giving the impression that the only thing that matters is test scores (In the current educational system that wont be easy, but amid everything else we must go back to the start and remember why we all became teachers- the kids). The year group will probably remember this week for long to come as their first trip without their parents, their first taste of independence. she will forever recall it as the week I remembered that every child is a genius, if only you look hard enough. This story inspire me that how teacher was believing that her students that every child is a a genius.
ReplyDeleteGood job on your blog this week! Your blogs are always very inspiring and tell a great story. You do a wonderful job at explaining the main topic of the quote. Your story about the teacher was extremely inspiring. Great job :)
DeleteA wise man once said, "everybody is a genius. But, if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it’ll spend its whole life believing that it is stupid.” This wise man goes by the name of, Albert Einstein. This quote could possibly mean many different things, depending on the person that you ask. Also, some people might not really understand what it means. I did not really understand this quote at first either, it took a lot of thinking. Now, i think that what Albert Einstein was trying to say that everyone has things that they are good at, and things that they are not. The first part saying, “everybody is a genius,” I think means that everyone is smart in their own way. Then, the second part when he said “if you judge a fish by its ability to climb tree, it’ll spend its whole life believing that it is stupid,” I believe means that if you judge someone by them doing something that they are not really meant to do, it will make them feel stupid. For example, it is like judging the way a girly-girl plays football. Or, judging a boy based on his flexibility. Also, it could be like judging a turtle on what place he gets in a race.
ReplyDeleteTo me, personally, it means that you should not judge people on the things that they can not do, and instead judge them on the things that they can do or the things that they are good at. I can relate to this quote because I see things like this going on all around me. There are many judgemental people in the world. There was this one girl on my cheer team. She was a very good cheerleader but she was not a good flyer, at all. Also, she was tiny so she would have made a really good flyer, but she could not keep her balance. A lot of the girls on the team judged her because she could not do what they thought was so easy. She was really good at everything else, like tumbling etc. but they only saw the fact that she could not fly. People should stop judging people on what they can not do, and start looking at the things that the can do, and are really good at.
Good job with thid quote. I like the way you wrote this quote. You explained it well. You're a good writer. Keep up the good work
Delete"Everybody is a genius. But, if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it’ll spend its whole life believing that it is stupid.” This quote could have a lot of meanings depending on the way you look at things. What I think this quote means is that everyone has the potential to do whatever they desire if they set their mind to it. Tom deblas came to our school to talk to us about himself. He said he never did any bad things and always focused his life. Once he graduated from high school he started doing jui jitsu. He is considered one of the best jui jitsu fighters in the world. He told us if you set your mind to something, then you can do it. Albert Einstein didn't start off big. He made little inventions and started making a name for himself. I can relate this quote to myself by when I'm in math class. People normally think I'm not the smartest kid so when we have partnered work I work by myself. But when I work with someone I understand the lesson more than they do. Also, I can relate this with soccer. I just started play 3 years ago and I wasn't good. I try to play everyday. I get better and better everyday. I didn't make varsity but I started every single game in jv. Next season I'm going to try my hardest to make varsity and so on. Nothing is impossible. At one point people never thought we could fly but now we have planes. They help us travel at a faster pace then what they would have done. This quote was said by a wise person. Albert Einstein was a very smart man. He never gave up and became one of the smartest people in history. His had to go through many rejections, he was autistic and he didn't have that much money. "Everybody is a genius. But, if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it’ll spend its whole life believing that it is stupid.” This is what I think this quote means to me.
ReplyDeleteRigo, I really liked the way you explained this quote. I liked the examples you used. Also, I like how you related it to your life using math and soccer. Great job this week and keep up the good work.

Delete"Everybody is a genius. But, if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it’ll spend its whole life believing that it is stupid.” – Albert Einstein
ReplyDeleteI believe what this means is that everybody has their abilities, strengths and weaknesses. If you start to judge or test somebody on their weak spots; they're going to feel bad about themselves and not realize what they're good at. The person you are testing is going to continuously remember how terrible they were at something and not realize just how good they are at their strong spots. There are people in life that enjoy to make people feel weaker than them and act superior. The same people will test people, but when it comes to their weaknesses; they're scared, embarrassed and act as if its not a big deal. "Superior" people will laugh off their mistakes, when the less superior will feel terrible about it. In my lifetime there has been many people who have tried to make me feel bad about what I'm not so good at. I believe that with people testing you, judging you on your mistakes there's no way to get better. Personally, I pushed everyone away that had been judging me and holding me back from reaching my goals. Constantly being nagged on how terrible I am at something when I know I could do better, is much more than exhausting. What this quote truly means (in my opinion) is to always be careful on what you call somebody out on. You could permanently destroy their efforts in that certain area. It's a very painful thing to experience; I believe everybody has had it done to them and nobody likes that.
Personally, I've seen one of my best friends being pushed around. I know for a fact that it does not feel good to be told you are bad at somebody you already know your bad at. To be told you're not trying, when you know for a fact that you're doing your best is the most hurtful thing in the world! Also, everybody has their off days and there's no reason to judge anybody on those. There's no reason to make fun of somebody's mistakes, or make them feel less important/good at something because of them. Everybody is good at something. The people you make fun of may be good at something you're absolutely terrible at. You'd never know, because you don't take the time to appreciate what they ARE good at.
An incrediblely wise man named Albert Einstein once said "Everybody is a genius. But, if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it’ll spend its whole life believing that it is stupid.” At first I was a bit confused by this quote but when I think about it, this can mean many things. The first part which is "Everyone is a genius" means that everyone has something that they are good at. Everyone is a genius at something. The second part which is "But, if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it'll spend its whole life believing that it is stupid" means that some people just aren't able to do certain things. Just like a fish doesn't have the physical ability to climb a tree. There are some people in this world who may have a disorder that may limit them from talking or walking. All these regular things that we all take for granted, and when we see someone who can't do it, that person gets thought of as weird. Also, sometimes it may be something like a person who may not be so great at a certain subject in school or doesn't learn and work at the same pace as everyone else. The other kids in the class may say that it is all completely simple but it might not be like that for someone else. That other person may start to feel like they aren't as smart as the rest of the students. The quote "Everybody is a genius. But, if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it’ll spend its whole life believing that it is stupid," can relate to me because I have always been a really slow worker and learner. I sometimes need someone to explain the concept more to me before I fully understand it. Sometimes, if even one of my classmates says out loud, "this is so easy" It makes me feel mad at myself for not understanding it. I'm also not the greatest at reading out loud and I have been judged for that before. Thankfully, I have really good friends who are there for me if I do need help. I hope that one day people realize that we shouldn't judge each other for our differences and just accept one another.
