The quote “Everybody is a genius. But, if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it’ll spend its whole life believing that it is stupid.” that Albert Einstein said means that if you call something stupid or not give them a try you will never see their true potential. This really refers to teams and groups. Personally this never happens to me because I do not work with groups or teams I’m more as a lone wolf when it comes to doing something because people that I play video games with when we need to work as a team are not threat good at the game or just complete idiots when they play. For a example in a game I play called Payday 2 most of the time so 80% of the time I play online the people I play with are really stupid and can barely play the game. For a good example in one mission you need to bring all these bags of weapons from point A to point B but for some reason when we got all the bags to point a this one guy decided to just keep fighting of the waves of enemies but the waves enemies were a lot stronger because we had it on the hardest difficulty so he end up dying and two of my crew mates try saving him but they end up dying so I needed to wait until they were finally un able to be revived and end the mission. This doesn’t always happen in video games and sports it can happen are jobs. One guy could be a extremely good manager but the owner doesn’t give him the job because he doesn’t feel like he is responsible to manage a store because he is way to young (16-17 years old). And it might be annoying to you if it happens to you but don’t worry someday you will get the chance to show of what ever and show that you are good at what ever it is. So what Albert Einstein said, "Everybody is a genius. But, if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it’ll spend its whole life believing that it is stupid.”

ReplyDeleteI agree with mikes blog post. I agree with him because he makes a good point when he says that you wont know the potential someone has until you see them try. He also uses good examples from his video game.

But, if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it’ll spend its whole life believing that it is stupid.” What he means is if you judge someone the way they do things and scold them for it because its not your way, that person will believe their way is stupid. I think what he trying to say is completely right, not everyone is perfect people do things all different ways even though it might not be your way doesn’t mean that it is wrong.
I feel very strongly about this because this happens to me a lot. In the foster home I’m in has certain ways of doing things even though the way I do it works just as good, it’s the wrong way. I hate it when I get yelled at for doing something differently even though its does exactly the same it’s wrong. This has a big personally feeling to it because it happens a lot to me its so annoying. I have never seen a friend go through this problem and I would hope that no one would. No one wants to think that there way is the stupid way even though it is as good as anyone else’s way. An example of this happening to me is how I love to play video games and I like to play a lot. I do everything I need to do and I listen at the foster home. They think though that I shouldn’t be allowed to play that long because it fries the brain. The reason this aggravates me is because that I’ve actually been doing the worst ever because I don’t ever get to play and games its horrible.
I think that when albert einstein is saying that is because people have done the same to them. He was probably scolded for the way he did something because it wasn’t the way someone else did it. Look at him he was one of the smartest people to every live and he couldn’t even tie his own shoes. this is what I think about this quote and how i can relate it to me.
I get what you mean when you say that since you've been playing less video games you have been doing worse in school and that's because video games are a source of relaxation for you and it helps you cope so I inderstand what you mean and I'm sorry that you feel like that, no one should have to experience anything like that ever

It is just like saying dogs cannot talk, but they can bark and it is not their fault. If somebody cannot do something do not make them feel bad about it, because they cannot help it. If you tell a person they cannot do something it will not make them feel better about it or like they can do it. Everybody knows something you might not so you cannot say they cannot do something because they might have done it before. If you know something they do not and you have a chance to help them do instead of just telling them they cannot do it. You should always share your knowledge because once you tell a person they will tell another person. Sharing knowledge will help make the whole world smarter. Telling people they cannot do something will make them feel worse about themselves. Telling people no will make them stop trying to be better. It will make them feel like they are not good enough to do it or they just are not good at anything. I also think this quote is saying that everybody has the ability to be good or better at something if they keep trying. When they keep trying they will get what they want sooner and be happier. After they prove that trying works other people will want to start trying to get what they want. You always want to do the right thing to set a better example. Everybody has the potential to be the best, but it all depends on how much effort you put in. Once you think you have done your best there is always another step to make yourself better and stronger. But it all depends on how much you care.

But, if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it’ll spend its whole life believing that it is stupid.” What I think this quote means is that if you judge someone on what they can't do, they will think that they aren't good enough to do it. Like, if you're working in a group and they tell you that its not the right way to do it, you might look down upon yourself and think your stupid because you can’t do it. An example of how this quote goes along in my life is that I really like video games, but sometimes when I play online with people they always yell at me if I die or do something wrong, and that makes me feel like i'm a useless player and I can’t play the game wrong and it actually makes me really upset. I think this quote is also trying to say that even though we may not be good at something, if we keep trying to do it, we will get better the more times we do it. Another example that I have seen is one of my friends is really bad at sports and they are made fun of because of it, and even though they might think they are stupid, they don't stop trying to do it the right way. If people try and tell us that we cant do something, instead of calling ourselves stupid we could try and fix what we did wrong and correct it.

This quote means that don't judge a person by their looks and don't judge the way other by the way they do it. To me this means everybody is special in their own way. For example I am good with cooking and have a uplifting personality that is a gift that some have and don't have but you shouldn't judge on their ability to do it. A time when this happened was when I was a kid I used to judge other by the way they act but now I am starting to stop judging other and start to get to know them. Another example of this is the movie "The Big Hero Six" Hero, one main character, judge the school that his brother when to but after going to it his mind changed. This quote has many interpretations this is another one you don't know someone until you walk in their shoes. For example the book "To Kill A Mockingbird" Scout was getting a lesson from her father about you don't know someone until you walk in their shoes. For people go around judging people and don't take their time to spend with them and get to know them.

DeleteI agree with you. You shouldn't judge someone by the way they look or the way they act. That makes you look less of a person. Also you shouldn't judge until you walk in their shoe s, that person might not have money to get nice clothes or maybe the person have problems involving the way they act. That's why you should treat everyone with respect.

In this quote he relates a fish to a person and the ability to climb a tree to something someones not good at. This quote means that everyone is smart in their own category. Like some people are smart at math and some people are smart at science. But everyone is smart at something. So you can’t make fun of someone on something there not that good in because they will believe that their not good at anything. You can ruin someone's confidence by saying they're not good at something. Personally i think this quote means to not make fun of someone on something they do. Sometimes people take things to heart and it could really hurt them.
I can relate this quote to something that happened to my friend. Im in drama and a lot of geeky stuff and i know alot of people make fun of people in drama and band. So my friend one time told me that while she was in class someone started making fun of her on her math ability because she wasn't that good. They kept saying go back band and stuff. And my friend got really upset. Just because she wasn't good at math doesnt mean shes not good at anything. Actually she is one of the best in band. But for about a week she felt like she was nothing. Just because someone stupid called her dumb at one thing. But she shouldn't have let that get her down because shes a genius in her own way.In conclusion, the quote "Everybody is a genius. I think this quote means that you shouldnt judge someone by their looks because they could be really intelligent. Everyone is good at something. They might not show their true talent but everyone hs it somewhere. Personally to me this quote has a good meaning. it could mean many different things. A fish cannot climb a tree because it doesnt have legs nor arms so it would be difficult for something that doesnt have legs or arms to climb a tree but i dont think this quote means it literally. It would be hard for a girl or boy with no arms to play basketball considering you need your arms and legs to play. You may not be able to do everything planned in your life. Just like if someone wanted to be a singer but couldnt speak. Everyone has talent they just have to find the one for them.

To me this means that everybody has their own ways of doing things and its not always gonna be how you would do it, but it doesn't mean that they are wrong either. If,you judge them on how they go about doing things then they will think they are wrong when really they aren't. Every body has their own way of doing things whether you look at the glass half full or half empty we all have our own views and either way is nor right or wrong. they go about doing things then they will think they are wrong when really they aren't. No one is the same so we all think differently and thats okay, we just have to learn to accept the difference in everyone, because how they look at something is what shapes who they are and what they do or how they do it.
ReplyDeleteI remember a time in life when I was judged for doing something a different way than someone else did, actually this happened alot. In my family ive always felt that my sister is held high and I'm just not good enough to reach the same level. You see in different than my sister, when my mom and her get into an argument she can turn it into a joke and all is well. Me on the other hand can't do that it just seems to get worse and my mom always says to me why can't u be like her. Even though most of the time I'm more obedient and nicer than my sister I go about things differently than she does and they both I feel judge me for it. So I feel like I'm in the wrong. Now I start to see I'm not in the wrong its just I'm not as funny Asher I'm more serious and thats okay, everyone fights. Also, my sister is more laid back then I am and everyone always says to me why can't you be like Emily, and it got to me for a while making me feel as though everything I do is wrong, but now know that I'm not wrong I'm just being me.

The one I think is the closest to relating to this quote though is some kids have strengths in all sorts of activities, or hobbies. For, example kids are good at being smart, some at sports, some are great at both. If a kid is so smart that's their ability that’s their special touch to tell who that person is. Now, if they aren't good at sports meaning not good coordination, not the fastest, or not even good at hitting/kicking a ball. You don't judge them because thats a ability they lack at. Like those high school jocks who are on varsity sometimes lack in being smart, but you don't see them getting judged the same way a person who is smart and not good at sports is. What this is trying get across, and tell you a lesson don't judge someone if they aren't as good at something as you might be, the whole time they'll think that they aren't worthy, of making that accomplishment because they don't have as good ability to perform it. Like how a fish can't climb a tree, we all know it can’t because it is a fish it lives in water. So that’s what i think Albert Einstein was getting at don't judge someone by something they might not have the ability to do, because then they will never think they can accomplish that.

ReplyDeletei guess he is saying that if you judge people by what they look or think of then you tell em then you would bring them down too that point and he would think that for the rest of his life . not really knowing its ability. Like dont every judge somebody about what you hear about them cause they are probably lying unless you know that for sure. Just cause you think or they saying something goofy doesnt mean that they are dumb . they just enjoy life.
For an example like me , i say goofy stuff cause im a goofy person but that doeasnt mean that i dont use my brain or that im stupid . Everybody makes mistakes and don't use there brain at times . but one thing doesn't need too haunt them for the rest of the life. if i listen too the people i would be no were and i would be still in second grade and i don't want that and im glad i never listen too those people.

This like telling me ohh Adam your stupid you cant Draw the new York skyline like are you serious are you that stupid and shallow that you have to bring someone else down just to make your self superior. How dare you judge someone on an ability you were gifted with just to make someone else fell better like honestly grow up and learn how to do things on your own and how not to fell sorry for your self. Hold up I'm about to get religious up in here I didn’t know God gave you this special ability to use it not make others fell bad about how they cant or are unable to. Its like coming in to class tomorrow with my flute and being like I'm goanna play an 1 hour long sonata and anyone who cant will just be patchily stupid . ReplyDeleteWhat this quote means is that everybody is diferent. People come in all shapes and sizes with different brain capacities and different athletic abilities so you cant give them all the same test. For example, say there is a class for of leopards, seals and fish. The task was for them to hunt down a pelican, most likely only the leopard would pass because that feeds right into its strength. An other example would be if you put Stephen Curry up against Dwight Howard in a 3 point contest. It wold be unfair because Steph Curry is the 2015 3 pint champion and has also beaten his own 3 point record with 275 in 1 season. It would be like putting an american kid in a Japanese class expecting him to be successful.
I personally agree with xaviers opinion. He is right people do come in all shapes and sizes. People come in smart, stupid, big, small, skinny, and fat. And they all have there own strong suits. They all have there parts where they are weak in. Everyone is very different from the next.

Well to me i think that it means that you are smart in your own way. Everyone has there own strong suits, and if you pick on someone for the area they arent very stong in. They will just think that they arent smart at all. You will leave them thinking they cant do anything at all. When actually they are very smart and can do alot more then what they cant. For example someone could be a honor student in math, but they may be terrible in science. They may be in basic skills for it and when people make fun of you for it. The only thing that you think is that you are terrible at everything that you do. Even when you are super smart at math and maybe a few more things. How can i relate this to my personal life? Well i am some what smart, i just dont put in enough effort into my work. When i was on my portal people saw my grades when they werent all that good. So everyone thought that i wasnt very smart in my math class becausr i was failing it because i didnt know what the math was. So it just made me feel like i couldnt do anything. But i actually was smart i had good grades in everyother subject but math. But it still made me think i was all around stupid. In my life I saw a tweet one day, about this girl at a gym who took a picture of a overweight man. Saying “his boobs are bigger then mine.” First off, she did not use correct grammar instead of then it shouldve been than. Second don't judge that person by what they look like or make fun of them because they are overweight. Encourage them to keep going, to get to their goal, he’s at the gym for a reason cause he see’s their is a problem with his weight. We all say why? Or atleast I do! What I think this quote means is that everybody is a genius but if you put someone in something that doesn’t do; they will feel stupid because they don’t know that stuff. For example, if you put a genius math teacher in a social studies class, the genius will feel stupid because they won’t be a genius if you don’t know the subject. Sometimes people are only good at one thing which can hurt you in life. In life you will not do one thing for the rest of your life. You need to be an all-around person to succeed in life.
ReplyDeleteMichael Jordan is a great example of this quote. Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player of all time. In 1993-1994 he retired and played baseball for the first time. He was the greatest in basketball but was not in baseball. Just like the quote, he was the fish trying to climb the tree as he tried to play baseball for the first time. Overtime he got better and eventually became good. At first he felt stupid for not being good at it. Overtime he got used to it and got good. After a year and a half he unretired and came back to the NBA. Then when the season started he was rusty and wasn’t the same. Then as the progressed, he looked like the old Michael Jordan. Even the greatest basketball player of all time wasn’t good at his sport at one time.
This quote applies to my life. Before I played basketball, I played baseball. Then when I started playing basketball it was hard. I felt stupid when I couldn’t make any shots. Overtime I practiced and practiced and got better. This year I made the Freshman Basketball Team and am really good now. At one point I was the fish trying to climb the tree, feeling stupid because I couldn’t do it. Now I am a genius at basketball.
